Good Content, Dude. Malazan is my favorite book series of all time. My Tips for first time readers are: 1. Don't overthink it too much and just let it flow. 2. Don't try to understand the greater context right away. Focus on whatever is going on right now as you're reading. 3. Enjoy the ride. It's gonna be amazing. 4. Re-read the whole thing after finishing. This series blows your mind on a Re-read. The Pay Off is unbelievable. I'm so excited to see your review / reaction to Book 2 - Deadhouse Gates. It's amazing beyond words.

Thank you, it is my happy place. Every time I go to the shelves I move books around and become excited to explore the books I’ve read and look forward to reading.

I’m a book maniac too and buy whole series if it sounds interesting. Out of all the book series I own, Malazan is the MOST intimidating to me and still haven’t gotten the nerve to give it a go. I’ll definitely need to be in the right headspace. Whew, 3 yrs old! Both mine were the most challenging at that age. I called it the terrible 3’s.

Given your love of McCarthy and what you said about Dark Tower.. I think you'll love Malazan.

I’m very curious to see where it goes. Should I jump right into book 2 or space them out?

You can space out the first 3-4 books, as the narrative sort of hops around between totally separate groups (you can almost think about them as stand alone novels). Things will converge for the later half of the series however, and then good luck trying to read anything else haha Excited for your malazan journey! It’s truly amazing

Book 3 is the one liked the most on average. It’s kinda the one that’s hardest to hate but book 8 is the one with the highest percentage of no 1 at like 28% of readers.

Favourite book? It’s debatable. A lot says 3, others 5, others 8. But of course 10 is a fantastic book. Yes, it pays off. And if you said it’s not philosophical? Just wait, all the books have major themes like compassion, love, brotherhood, etc.. and faith, capitalism... What makes it harder to read and why SE chose this type of writing because you will witness everything here and you will decide who is right, not him. Gardens of the Moon is really the weakest in everything. That includes the writing too. Btw… look at Broken bindings (buying the whole series are you?) what are they cooking with the series now. 👀(instagram) Welcome to the fandom! Yep, I know what you are talking about with the Dark Tower. 😁 Well, I didn’t drop the series because of book 1, I’m consistent. And I trust more in Stephen King especially I knew that this is his real story what he loved the most.

I’m very glad to hear that book 10 is so loved. It gives me a goal to reach and I know it will pay off. I’ll be jumping into Deadhouse Gates soon and am very curious to see where the series goes.
