Yeah man, I hear that! I'm originally from the high desert / sky islands of the San Gabriel Mtns of SoCal (Wrightwood). But now I've run away to green Japan.

Only a small percentage of animals have rabies.

It's true, rabies is generally transmitted by bats, rodents, or canids. I suppose his biggest animal threat would have been scorpions or snakes, as I didn't read about him coming into contact with jackals or cute little fennec foxes.
