THE PHOENIX & THE TURTLE RELEASE DATE 21 APRIL 2014
"The Phoenix And The Turtle is a warm, engaging, record. A fitting capture of an illustrious career." - Daryl Easlea, Record Collector
"She sings beautifully throughout -- committed, authoritative, totally inhabiting the songs. Her voice is rich and mellow with a hint of smoke and huskiness around the edges. It goes down beautifully, like a fine malt..." - Neil Hussey, Shindig Magazine
Baleful Soul and Shimmering Blues; Life is rarely more tellingly captured in music." Colin Irwin, MOJO
"...she has power and expression in abundance." --LG, New Internationalist

Ayer fue un día un poco complicado. De pronto supe sobre está canción y su historia. La escuché y solté el llanto. La siento como un regalo de Nick y Beverley para el mundo. Para que todo se vea menos oscuro.

"Reckless Jane, see her smiling through the (pane/pain?) *Walked in Paris* by the Seine..." Great job, thanks! Just the things I pointed above, pane or pain? I'm not sure which. And I'm pretty sure it's "Walked in Paris", since the Seine is there...

Beautiful song. I have Hazy Jane on a compilation by Nick Drake. She could have been somebody too. The talent was there..Love the strings. Typical Nick Drake stylings for sure..

the guy, in the B&N film pictures, with Beverley is John Martin, the former Beverley's husband. Not Nick.

@@ricklanders5645 Are you sure about Nick and Linda. I was hoping to find pic of Nick and a woman without luck. It would be romantic if they had a thing going. I don’t like all the innuendo that Nick was gay, theory from thin air. He was a melancholy introvert and somewhat of a loner. Beautiful in appearance, in soul, most importantly a immense talent. Nick’s music will live forever.

I can hear where this is comming from. I don't know the story about Beverly and Nick writing this song.. but I can hear Nick Drake all over it. I think Nick sort of rewrote this and put it out as Hazy Jane, later. Sad that Beverly never really had it in her to be a singer. It is allright, has some Marianne Faithfull vibes to it, but te rest of the record isn't that good, really. They recently (re)issued her unissued 66/67 album, featuring John Paul Jones, JImmy Page, John Renbourn.. its nice and has quality but her voice is something different, it always have been somewhere inbetween a 1977 Marianne Faithfull and early Patti Smith, like she has no real sense of tone. None the less, the songs are beautiful. It sounds worse than I meant it to sound.

This is a song Beverley and Nick had written during Nick's visits to Martyn's house (about 1972). John was on tour then and Nick was the only person allowed to visit Beverley as John was always so jealous. John loved Nick and treated him like a younger brother. As for Beverley she had it actually to be a very good singer/songwriter. Stormbringer! was actually hers as John was supposed to be her guitarist then.

the song arose from a bit of fun one day when she and Nick were thinking of all the things that they could rhyme with Jane. Nick's version would have been beautifully done, and the strings in this song are exquisite.

“Stormbringer” and “Road to ruin” are great albums, and I prefer Beverly’s songs to John Martyn’s on those records. An argument could be made that John Martyn ruined Beverly’s career.
