Ford 10.25 Electric Locker Install - Reckless Wrench Garage

One upgrade you can do to your Sterling 10.25 or 10.5 axle is install a factory Ford electronic locker. Ford makes electronic lockers for the 2011 and up Super Duty trucks. You can buy the e-locker from a dealer and install it in your OBS Ford!

awesome, dig the way it all came together and appreciate how you listed all the important specs during the video. For used gears, i've never taken a pattern before. Always just went for matching what was worn into and "looks close" lol, probably much easier to see with a before pattern in marking compound!

If you're doing gears it's the perfect time. You can find these as takeouts on eBay for a bit cheaper too

You're killing it, dude. Consider wiring in a flyback diode, when the magnetic field collapses in the coil, it creates a voltage spike (that's why you see sparks when you remove the wire), that will kill the switch contacts a lot faster. This is Hahn, btw.

I thought I had read that the wiring was way more difficult/didn’t work for some reason. Definitely might go this route instead of welded it like usual..haha

When people first started doing this, it was believed that the voltage needed to drop to 5v after locker actuation. People tested it and ran these connected to batteries for days straight and they never quit or got damaged electrically. So that's why I just wired it to 12v dc on a relay

Will that locker work with gears not intended for the 2011+ axle? Since I found out about the e-locker, I'm looking at building Sterling axle but I can only get gears as low as 4.88. will 5.13 gears for earlier axles fit on that locker?

These gears were from a 1994 axle, yes they swap right in!

Have you seen any oil wicking up between the two wires? Any trouble with any other oil leaks? Great mod.

Nope, it's dry as a bone! It has about 1,000 miles on it now

I am a big fan of the permatex black sealant. It's a couple dollars more than other brands but it seals gear oil exceptionally well and has not let me down yet

You do know the diff caps are generally marked from the factory
