I work at a papermill where we splice ropes to carry the paper tail. We use a needle with a basket on the end. That thing would make this a breeze.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!! What size are those needles you used for the fids? The two main ones you used?

I have all the sizes I used here: www.reckonill.com/2021/12/16/diy-tie-a-multi-step-aider-for-getting-higher-in-the-tree/. Glad it helped!

How far apart did your steps end up being.I’m looking to do about 16”.

I’ve bought several aiders and haven’t been satisfied. So I’m gonna make own. Question, using your measurements. What is the step to step distance. I looking for around a 16 in step?

Great vid, what's the purpose of feeding the loop through the tag end and flipping it? Thx
@romansena19832 жыл бұрын
@@reckonill at the 4 minute mark you feed the whole loop through the whole. Was wondering what the purpose of doing that way was. Thx
@reckonill Жыл бұрын
@@romansena1983 Its because I can't thread the tag end to lock in the splice due to fuel line...its just another way to complete the splice.

I'm having an incredibly hard time getting the size 11 needle to bury the full 10 inches at once. I'm having to do two or three inches at a time, which leaves the rope looking a mess. Any suggestions? I've had even more trouble trying to pull through with a wire. Also, had to tape 11" of the rope to get it through the fuels line because it kept bunching up. Easy video to follow and learn, but something about the rope and the tools made it a two hour job.

@david...sorry its giving you fits...I have also pulled through with 14ga copper...I think part of it is having new amsteel...its stiffer and i haven't had issues...fuel line should slide on easy...are you trying to slide over bury? I always tie one side..slide on fuel line, then tie the other

I literal just bought something like this off Etsy as a result of watching this video. I normally use wildedge stepps with insider and swaider but this makes more sense for me.

By not tapering the Burry on the brummelock it significantly weakens the breaking strength of the amsteel By about 25%. That looks like pretty thick amsteel so I'm sure the strength is still more than enough but Just something to keep in mind it's really not hard to taper the end at all. There is a good KZbin channel that is mostly about rock climbing and highlining called "HowNot2" And on his channel he has a set up to pull Different setups with a with a device that measures the tension that it breaks at and in one of his videos he tested amsteel with and without a tapered Burry There is actually quite a few videos on his channel that has stuff that could be related to hunting gear Like I know for instance he tested different combinations of Prusik knots and rope to see at what point they fail.
