Reclusive golden pheasants spotted in central China

Brilliantly coloured golden pheasants have been made a rare appearance in a snowy habitat in China’s central province of Henan. The reclusive bird, also known as the “fire phoenix” or Chinese pheasant, is a Class II protected species in China because their numbers have been decreasing.

Beautiful and delicious. Who needs pigs? Not the best for sport though, Golden pheasants don’t scare well. Ring-necks (the common pheasant) are better. One of the better quality gamebird meats is pheasant. Both species are common in China, and throughout the world thanks to hunting.
