Makes me laugh how people just can't accept that Jaguar now make cars good enough to be a class leader. Most will never even drive one, let alone own a Jaguar.

+Joshua L I don't think it is. I am quite sure that the 3 series is still the handling benchmark and the C-class is the most comfortable. This offers a great blend of both ride and handling, but I don't think it's the best in class in either of those aspects. Its practicality isn't quite up there as well, alongside the ergonomics and interior quality.

+Adrian Chua Q.Y. Well that is your opinion and nobody can say it's wrong. I think that after owning g a 3 series and driving the XE the Jag feels sharper. Not saying the BMW is bad because it isn't, it's a great car. But Jag is on a serious roll with its cars and the XE is certainly good enough to tempt buyers away from BMW. It certainly has tempted me. I'm currently saving up for the V6 XE-S :)

Drove one of these at the weekend and it was so good its now either this or a 340i M Sport. I don't think its fair to compare this to the M3 though as that would be what the XE R will be for. This is more a competitor to the 340i.

Too Apples I’m cross shopping the Giulia and XE. I think the V6 is tempting me towards the Jag, although I suspect the Alfa has slightly better dynamics (although it’s close). What are your thoughts/did you do it?

i have the XE R Sport - incredible car to drive (the 250 bhp turbo)handles better than any car i ever driven / owned except maybe a 911which i took on a track day . The way it corners and the pick-up once the turbo kicks in especially on motorways is insane .

I would takie XE S every day. It sounds better than competitors and is free from driver-stereotypes like tailgaitors in audi or Dickheads in BMW. And it have something that BMW or audi dont have - the style and class

Don't forget it has the same engine as the F-Type. Meaning its high customizable if you need more speed :)

I like everything about this car except the interior design and choice of materials used, hope it has an extensive range of options for the interior. Wood should be an option with dual tone leather seats and far more leather wrapping for the doors. Hate seeing plastic in any luxury car especially in the dash and doors.

+Samson Okoro The interior is a step down from the F-Type and could be more lavish but it's by no means the worst in its class. You can add a touch of wood but it's only for the thin section of dashboard that runs near the windscreen and around the gear selector. As for the leather, you can choose from a few colours (red is a personal fave).

+brixtonmack10 Thanks for the kind words! It is closer to the 340i, you're spot on, but ultimately the XE S and M3/M4 are all performance saloons and it seemed natural to compare them. They're faster, but I'm not sure I would personally pay an extra £11,000 for the privilege. The XE S is one of the best cars I've driven in 2015. The M2 is the one to watch now.

Having driven the M235i, M3, M4, M5 and M6 (including the convertible versions) on roads and on track, I can still honestly say the XE S is more rewarding to drive and easier to live with on UK roads. It's slower, sure, but there's more to an involving drive than going fast.

Many brands have small-sized like BMW 1/2-series, Audi A3, VW Golf, Mercedes A/CLA, Volvo V40 and so on, then it's mid-sized BMW 3/4-series, Audi A4/A5, VW Passat, Mecedes C-class, Volvo S/V60, Jaguar XE. Then large, with BMW 5/6-series, Audi A6/A7, Mercedes E/CLS-classes, Jaguar XF. Next up is luxury with BMW 7-series, Audi A8 and Mercedes S-class, Jaguar XJ.

Have you driven the newly facelifted BMW 3? I am quite sure it's still the best handling car in its class. The Jag might be more 'exciting', but that's because of its soundtrack. In terms of handling, the 3 is still king.

Bmw truly believes that the steering options make the car nicer to drive, but the truth is its inconsistency just makes it unpredictable in some cases. The suspension is spot on, the balance is impeccable and the steering itself is accurate and precise. It's just the steering options that are muddying the waters, enough to make you think the Jag is the better driver's car. In truth, the steering is the one and only area where the Jag is better than the Bmw when it comes to the driving experience, at least if the Beemer is fitted with the optional steering features. I am sure you will be more impressed when you get the chance to drive the 3 without the optional steering options. Thanks for replying though, and your reviews are great as well.

***** what did they do to jaguar? man you need to know the financial status of jaguar before tata bought it, ford was trying to get rid of it because it was running in heavy losses, it was back on track after the tata's take over. im not exaggerating, its the fact, ford officials said tata is doin them a huge favor by buying the company from them, if it isnt for tata there was a high probability that jag had closed its business.
