Dear Grace, I once had a Taiwanese tutor. I remember showing this video to my tutor: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYjRhpawqMt6rJI I really liked this video as I was able to use it for my lessons. We discussed gender stereotypes in Taiwan and how similar or different they are from western stereotypes. I felt afterwards that I understood Taiwanese society a tiny bit better. And also, some excerpts of that - awesome in my opinion - speech were used to improve my vocabulary. So I gained both cultural insight and knowledge of scientific Mandarin. And this actually is something I am very keen to learn. Thank you in advance for your reply Grace!

It’s based on their speaking speed and the vocabulary they use, but I didn’t watch all of their videos, so the rating is just for your reference, might not be 100% accurate.

I found these two channels really good for learning Chinese: Teacher Li Yongle: kzbin.info That channel uses captions a lot. With the help of a popup dictionary on the browser, I'm always able to search the words that I don't know. In addition, I find his videos extremely interesting. Travel notes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eaubmZJsbburgac That channel is about internal tourism in Mainland China. What I like about this channel, besides the obvious fact that its content is amazing, is that he usually describes what is seen by the camera. In this way, one learns a lot more without the need of using a dictionary. By the way, before watching this channel, I didn't even know that the 天坑s are a tourist destination in China. Besides, he also uses captions a lot.

谢谢你 Grace! I really liked this video you just uploaded! I liked that you included both Taiwanese and Chinese videos. I think it is important to know about the variations in Mandarin Chinese. Moreover I really liked that you included a "difficulty" level for each video. Some are new to Mandarin but others may have been learning for years. The vlogs seem to cover many different topics. This is very useful in my opinion. Learning a language is not easy. Topics are pretty much "infinite". Some ideas for you: Have you thought of making a video about the Olympic Games in Tokyo? I am sure that now a very good way to "break the ice" and make some "small talk" would be things like "Did you hear who got a gold medal in X sport?" "Did you hear about the return of Simone Biles?" Simple things. Not anything too deep/ elaborate. Moreover, have you thought of making an upload recommending speeches in Mandarin? You may know of TED and TEDx. I have found some really nice speeches in Mandarin Chinese. I honestly felt it broadened my horizons. The videos that have English subtitles often are very, very interesting! Last but not least... Have you thought of making videos for people wanting to come to Taiwan? Some may want to study as undergraduates. Some may want to study for a Masters course or PhD. Others may be already qualified and want to find a job and experience a new country. What advice would you give them? What opportunities are there to study in Taiwan if your knowledge of Mandarin is basic? Let's say HSK 2 or HSK 3 (Apologies as I do not know the system for Taiwanese Chinese!!) Are there any interesting summer courses to learn Mandarin in Taiwan? Appart from English language teachers, what do other foreign people do to make a living in Taiwan? I would LOVE to spend a few years in Taiwan. It is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Speaking of the beauty of Taiwan, in books written many decades ago, Taiwan was referred to as "The Beautiful Nation" 😃 PS I do understand that the Pandemic is far from over. But hey... We have a strong responsibility to think about positive things. I always try to think about all the things I would love to do once this pandemic is over. I love travelling. And cannot wait to tick your beautiful country from my "bucket list" 😊
