Thank you for talking about the pliers! I had seen them online and was unsure if it would be better... just ordered mine and hoping it'll help with all the noise and chaos of leatherworking in a small space!

Another great video for beginners! I wish these had been available when I first started. You answer so many of the questions I had when I was first starting.

I'm so interested in this beautiful craft. But I still have many questions hope that someone may give me an answer. 1 - can I start depending on only the videos ? Or it's necessary to get courses ? 2- is there any recommendations considering the tools brand ? Or any general recommendations ?

The groover is used so the stiches will be below the leather surface to protect the stitch from ware and abrasion.

Even pre-waxed needs additional wax. This makes hand sewing easier.

Really usefull video for a beginner!! Could I ask a focus on the use of needles and threads to sew? I find it difficult to choose the right product to use. Thank you!

I have another video that goes into that topic better. It's focus is more on stitching, so it may not be comprehensive enough. I will keep you consideration in mind for future videos. Thanks! kzbin.info/www/bejne/a321fnWna91leJI

So for little things like I want to make, I'm thinking my cheapo soft jawed modelling vice is totally a stitching horse already?

A "round knife" is needed also to work with leather. You don't need an entire cow's hide to make a sheath for a large pocket knife in order to free up a pocket and be more comfortable.......

Couldnt the gold be due to its low reactivity? So it doesnt tarnish or oxidise which could rub off on the leather?
@voidremoved4 жыл бұрын
You need gold needles too then?
@12346unkown4 жыл бұрын
voidremoved oh yeah and you need a gold knife and gold pricking irons too didn’t you know!? You don’t use needles to put a creased line on a piece of leather you knobhead. Also, i never said it was necessary, i was hypothesising what might have been their reasoning behind it, since in production you usually dont do extra work for shits n giggles... Good point bringing up needles tho...some have gold plated eyes to help the thread slip in, so could have something to do with reducing the friction on the leather as well...

It's difficult to find outside of Japan. I purchased from Kyoshin Elle. You can find it in their catalog under product #53175. Here's a link - www.kyoshin-elle.co.jp/ebook2018/_SWF_Window.html?pagecode=31

Why is there a hole in the tool? Is that for a needle?
