it’s absolutely important for you to tell author and main artist when talking even marvel, dc or any comic book. It helps a lot because of reprint variations on trades or hardcovers might be easily available alternatives for viewers. People shouldn’t be afraid of comic book stores too. Comics are not authorless and when talking about art style say the name of the artist because they are often identified in book listings too. If you haven’t tried any of his comics, I suggest looking into Brian K. Vaughan. Check out Paper Girls (Available in 3 big deluxe hardcovers or 6 paperbacks to read the complete series) and Saga (available in 3 big deluxe hardcovers and even more softcover editions and it’s still ongoing)

I definitely recommend the webcomic Harbourmaster by Wayward Martian. It's a long-running science fiction webcomic set in the far future and follows two characters, Tal and Gilou, after Tal takes over as governor of the tiny colony on Tethys, the only planet humans have ever found that has intelligent life. There is mystery, politics, a fantastic rivals-to-best-friends relationship between Tal and Gilou, and great worldbuilding. The plot tends to swerve between an interlinking story about interspecies relations and culture clash, and Tal and Gilou's friendship and their family drama. Their families are both pretty dramatic but in very different ways.

My absolute favorite webcomic of all time is called Room of Swords! It’s about this astronaut who finds himself stranded in a strange world, but he begins to realize this may not just be another planet, but much more. Along his journey he meets an amazing cast of characters from all different places and the story gets more complicated as he tries to remember his past. It’s not finished yet, it still has quite a ways to go but I love every episode of it! It also has a really retro video game rpg feel which is just played out amazingly!

I just read Everyone's a Aliebn When Ur a Aliebn Too because you talked about it in an older video and I loved it, so thanks for that! If you can find it in English, I definitely recommend the Thorgal series. It’s a Belgian comic book series that I grew up on and am currently rereading. It’s an interesting blend of Norse mythology, fantasy and sci-fi and in the later volumes there is a lot of middle eastern inspired material. The first few volume were published in 1977 as standalones, so those feel a bit disconnected, but afterwards there are major plot arcs that cover multiple volumes.

Long comment: TL;DR: I recommend The Cursed Princess Club & Lore Olympus from Webtoons. I love Webtoons! 💜 When Jesse mentioned "Let's Play" I was so excited. Definitely a great story! I could read Webtoons all day, tbh. 😅 If you don't have Webtoons two stories I would recommend are: 1) Cursed Princess Club- When I started this, I didn't think I would like it. I ended up loving it though. It has a little bit of romance but I don't personally feel like that is the main focus of the story. It is about a princess who finds a group of princess (and prince) with a variety of curses. The characters are funny and quirky and so are some of the curses. And she deals with internal battles of feeling beautiful. 2) Lore Olympus- It's like a modern day retelling of Hades and Persephone (greek mythology), so it does have romance in it, but it's still great. You get to see lots of God's and goddesses in it. It does go into some things that can be triggering but the author puts a disclaimer at the top of those pages. If you have Webtoons, you have probably heard of both of those as they are pretty popular. 😅

Recommendations: The Bone comic/graphic novel series! I read them forever ago and I just bought the entire set because it's stuck with me for foreverr. Also, not a comic/graphic novel, but a manga: if you haven't checked out Haikyuu! I highly recommend. Is it about volleyball? Yes, but it's also about growing out of what society wants you to be (is that a heavily romanticized description? Yes), and overcoming seemingly un-overcomable (wow, making up words now. We're doing great) obstacles. Also, all of the characters are likeable for any reason you can think of, and it's a four season anime if you'd rather watch (season 4 just ended. season 5 comes out... this summer? or fall?). :)

Check out the Barefoot Gen graphic novel series! I read the first two and they are absolutely fantastic. The March trilogy is also absolutely amazing.

I cannot recommend the Runaways comics enough!!!! The new line is written by Rainbow Rowell! The original line of Runaways is written by Brian K Saughan who writes the Saga series (also highly recommend). Marvels Runaways is so different than your normal super hero comic that feels as if Marvel and YA had a baby. They are so so good!!

One Webtoon rec I have is Pigpen, a psychological horror. I was really only drawn to it because of the title(I work with pigs). I think my thought process was, "Woah, a horror featuring pigs? Cool." It starts off with our unnamed main character shipwrecked on an unnamed island. There he finds a family who are not all that they seem. There is a lot of violence in the story and strong language, but there's warning in every chapter with those elements. At first, it was fine. I was enjoying myself, but I wasn't really hooked. Then the series takes a turn and it's actually a masterpiece. The pigs aren't really a focus though, but they are incorporated in a way that's actually so amazing. The biggest downside is that Webtoon does this thing with it where you have like eight chapters free and then after you read those, you only get two chapters free a day, so if you wanted to binge it, you have to buy all the rest of the chapters. AND ALSO, when you get near the end of the series after doing two chapters free a day, Webtoon makes it so you only have one chapter free a day.

I don’t usually comment but I love webtoons so I’m going to recommend some that deserve more love. Also I suck at descriptions to I suggest you look these up just in case. They are all completed so you can go read them without waiting a week for an update. >Gourmet Hound (Drama) - Lucy Fuji loved going to her favorite restaurant to eat with her grandma but she hasn’t gone since her grandma passed away. She finally goes but something is off. She finds out that all the chefs are new. So she sets out in search of the chefs that used to work there in order to find her “perfect taste.” This is touches up on things like grief and moving on from our pasts. There is romance but it is so slow burn it’s practically in the background of the actual story. >Your Letter (Drama) - Sori transferred schools because she was being bullied. But the same thing is starting to happen at her new school. Then she finds a letter in her desk. The letter contains advice on how to survive this school and directions to other letters with more advice. This is one is cute. It’s also only like 12 chapters. >Ghost Theatre (Drama) - Rahee was a famous actress until an accident took her parents and her ability to show emotions. While wandering around she finds a strange theatre. The Ghost Theatre needs an actress who won’t show emotion so they hire Rahee. Now she helps ghosts move on to the afterlife by helping them resolve their unfinished business. Highly recommend. It has mini stories, which is the stories of the ghosts and their unfinished business, inside of the full story of Rahee and the Ghost Theatre. >Spirit Fingers (Drama) - Amy has always felt like she’s never enough. She’s never as pretty as the other girls. She’s never as smart as her brothers. She’s never good enough for her mom and dad. One day she stumbles on a girl posing in a swimsuit in a crowded place in the middle of winter. Suddenly she’s thrust into the world of a drawing group called Spirit Fingers that is filled with some pretty crazy (and confident) people. This one is so good. You can ignore every one of my recommendations but please don’t ignore this one. Watching Amy go through so many ups and downs on her journey to “find her true colors” was amazing. I laughed. I cried. I got mad. I felt for Amy. I was happy for her. It’s just one of those you have to read.

HEYY!!! I LOVE WEBTOONS :D i fell into the ever consuming world of webtoons when save me (the bts universe webtoon) was released but NOW I CANT CLIMB OUT OF IT HAHAH IM OBSESSED. some of my favourite webtoons available for free- - sweet home (my absolute FAVE. its completed, and also has its netflix series now. its an apocalyptic concept where people become monsters if they succumb to the 'shadow' part of themselves that convinces them to succumb to their desires. the whole webtoon takes place in ONE apartment building. its brilliant.) -bastard (same author as sweet home. im not gonna say anything about this one JUST READ IT) -lost in translation (!!!!! love this. kinda conflicted since i havent caught up in a bit but i read this when it was a canvas webtoon and its AMAZING. i havent really seen this concept before. basically, the main character is part of a kpop group!!! basically shows all the shady stuff that happens backstage and the struggles he goes through, along with the other characters too. the art is graceful asf and if you're a fan of kpop im pretty sure you'll want to read this) -my deepest secret (oh my god. IF YOU HAVENT READ MY DEEPEST SECRET I SWEAR YOU'RE REALLY MISSING OUT. it looks like 'your average love story' but i pROMISE YOU IT ISN ABSOLUTELY NOT YOUR AVERAGE LOVE STORY. for one thing, it's a thriller. i don't know how to say without spoiling anything but i can promise you this: read the first episode. you will be HOOKED.) -gourmet hound (SUCH A WHOLESOME WEBTOON I SWEAR YOU WILL LOVE THIS. like oh my god it is just so cute and adorable and everything you need when you're having a difficult day. im not gonna say anything about it except for the fact that the art is cute asf; the characters are all AMAZING; the diversity in this is phenomenal and food is a major factor in this) -lore olympus (easily one of the most popular webtoons :) FOR ALL MY GREEK MYTHOLOGY FANS. this is a modern retelling of the legend of hades and persephone and can i just take a moment to comment on the ABSOLUTELY MAGICAL art. love it) -kiss bet (another wholesome webtoon. highschool! and yes, the title is 'kiss bet' and there is a kiss bet) then there's purple hyacinth (art is gorgeous, i ditched it but its nice); secret playlist (it's new and i've only started); unordinary (fantasy au; this one is a fucking ROLLERCOASTER). okay that is all for now bye :) HOPE SOMEONE FINDS THIS USEFUL HAHAH

You might like "My Roommate is a Cat." (Disclaimer: I haven't actually read all of the manga, I watched the anime😅) But!! It's about a writer who has semi-recently lost both of his parents and isolates himself from everyone. One day he finds a stray cat and brings it home and through a series of events it opens up his horizons, teaches him how to open up to other people, and cope with his grief. And it does it all in a very light-hearted and funny way. When you mentioned parts of Let's Play being told through the perspective of the dog it reminded me of this manga because parts of the story are told through the eyes of the cat in this one.

For a graphic novel recommendations, I would say Smile, Sisters, Drama, Ghosts, and Guts by Raina Telgemier. They are amazing well drawn graphic novels. Smile, Sisters, and Guts are graphic memoirs about the author’s childhood, preteen, and teen life. Drama is about a girl working on a theater production. Ghosts is a story about two sisters moving to a small town that may be haunted by ghosts. It’s a little bit like Coco if you like that movie. Pick whatever you like. They are my favorites to turn in comfort.
