Good discussion. Radhika's question was most pertinent. It is impossible to understand this without constantly remembering the unrelenting siege of these countries by the US.

Cybernetics is a great way of organizing Economic Planning on a fully Democratic level- Paul Cockshott's "Towards a New Socialism" and Stafford Beer's "Brain of the Firm" and companion work "Heart of the Enterprise" are amazing pieces for Socialist Democratic planning with a transition to Labor Credits that act as Labor Vouchers. Tomas Härdin is upcoming in this field and has interesting contributions, and Jan Philipp Dapprich has great essays on the matter of planning based on Kantorovich's systems. The People's Republic of Walmart is also a good look "under the hood", so to speak, on the fact that planning works even under Capitalism, and acts as the prime structure of the economy, showing that simply seizing the algorithms and converting them for the use of the people will not only allow us to plan to great capacity but exceed capitalism's own contradictory planning structures, especially since calculating based on Socially Necessary Labor Time is far more efficient than any Pricing-based planning.
