I’m just learning, it is SO helpful to show what not to do. Well done. Showing isolated tracks and why you changed timing and volume levels. Great teacher.

I actually really liked it with just the main vocal. It sounded much more modern when you added all the supporting sounds in but I liked the stripped back version.

Hey! That was fun! Thanks for the tips! I use doubles often, but haven’t been as aggressive with the low end roll off! A new tool in the tool box! 👍🏻

Oh yeah love those BV screams! Even "too loud" would work with a fade from mid phrase IMHO. Loved it!

Great video! Very interresting! (And good song really!). About recording voice, what do you think to use one mic in front of the face and a second one in direction of the throat? Down bellow? All the Best from France!

The "scream" trick works really well with rock songs indeed. The first time I recorded something with my very first band, I used to do that thing, the drummer around was watching me like "... what the hell is he doing??". Then yeah, when we heared what it was doing to the song, it sounded so amazing ! :p

Cool. Would you treat the verses the same way?
@QuincyKane
@QuincyKane 2 жыл бұрын
I don't want to assume what he'd do, but usually verses will be more stripped down so that the chorus sounds bigger with all the extra layers.

Hi Chris..how bout a straight compressor on a vox all-effects bus to make the effects tails jump out a little more (or a lot :) between phrases.

@@chrisliepe The next Scream movie opening scene would be a male being chased down and slashed and as he screams...your screams will come and your song will begin! Pitch that!

Why the sm57, was it to show what you can do with one, because of s’ or a bit of both? I’ve been having a lot of trouble with the tones of obnoxious sibilance lately so much so that de-essers, turning them down in Melodyne or spot eq and volume automation hasn’t been enough. I did have a ladder in my pop shield which has been replaced now, but I dunno if that makes a difference to s’ or just plosives. My tutor suggested trying off-axis or even a cheap dynamic mic. I’m scared I’ll prefer recording with a dynamic mic and I’ll regret getting the tube mic. Also I tried singing with the monitors out of phase at uni like you’ve mentioned in other videos and it was such an instant improvement to my singing/pitch (thank you). I’ve invested in some monitors, but it means I need to make some rock wool room treatment frames and sort the room out now.

Sibilance is the bane of my existence, but I've sort of got it under control these days by making sure my de-esser is the very first thing in the vocal chain. Recording off-axis also does help quite a bit.

Just to show you don’t need an expensive mic to make good sounds:)

I think if you had changed the vowel sound for your screams to something 'ah' and more 'or' sounding I think it would have fit nicely! 12:08

OK, I can hear a bit of Chris Cornell is your voice on this song, and maybe some Alice in Chains on the low vocals (not sure if that would be Layne or the other guy).

Love your vocals and vocal tutorials. Question when doubling would you do that through the entire song or just certain sections such as the chorus for example. Or not at all in certain songs. All the best Chris!

Can you use karaoke music from another channel and then post covers with it on your own channel without getting in terrible with either the karaoke channel or the original artist? I know people used to post covers all the time but now I'm worried about getting shut down.

Just curious, when doubling, did you record completely new tracks or did you duplicate the 1st track and add some small time offset to the dup'ed track?

You don't HAVE to pay for the WUP - that's bad info. The only time you need the WUP is for re-sale or if your OS is that old/new it's not supported. If you're on a Mac this may very well be more of an issue than on PC but I've been using Waves for over 10 years and have renewed my WUP only once - and then it was only because of the plugins they added to my Mercury bundle. There is so much wrong info out there on WUP & I'm surprised RecordingRevolution is adding to the mis-info as you're normally on the ball with some great tips.

Alternatively, if you're not into being puritanical about mixing, just use the 'CLA Vocals' plugin.
