Thanks so much for the cool videos! I'm 17 and I just got into records. I always hated them, but whenever I sat down with my dad one day listening to Revolver, I was immediately turned to the format. We bonded over records and now he takes me along on flea markets to go crate digging. It is so much fun!!

+Adrian Guardiola that's awesome! That's a great example of how music can help us all bond. I had a similar experience with my dad when we were listening to an album from The Four Seasons that he'd remembered from his childhood! Take care!

+Vinyl Eyezz Hey I had a question hopefully you can help me put. So I bought an audio technica lp120 from amazon and I got it yesterday. I got with it the Ortofon 2m red cartrdige pre mounted to a red Ortofon headshell. Will I have to use a protractor to align it with my turntable? I don't have a scale to check the tracking force like in your videos. I'm confused haha

Hey Jarrett, is there a difference between an S shaped tone arm and a non S shaped tone arm? I've been told that and S shape tone arm is better, but no one is able to tell me why.
@vinyleyezz9 жыл бұрын
Good question! Well from what I've read, the S shaped tone arm might track the grooves better, but honestly this could be a matter of opinion. I feel that if the cartridge is aligned properly, then it really doesn't matter which arm you have!
@MisterMetalFan6669 жыл бұрын
+Leander From what I have read, the shape of the tone arm is merely cosmetic, and bears no difference at all. However I am no pro and that could be wrong.
@deepend93769 жыл бұрын
+Vinyl Eyezz Sorry for the technical bits that follow:- "S" shaped tonearms keep the arm pivots at 90 degrees to the cartridge so when going over any warps there are no additional side forces on the stylus i.e. the stylus tracks correctly. To keep the forces on the arm pivots equal another weight is sometimes used to balance the cartridge/part of the arm increasing the overall mass. Simple straight arms can be lighter as they do not need the extra weight but the resultant angle (~22 degrees above the 90) between the arm pivots and cartridge can mean the side forces generated on warps can affect the forces/tracking of the stylus in the groove causing the image to shift. Complex straight arms keep the benefit of the lower overall mass but have the pivot points angled to avoid the side forces. A good example of this is the Rega RB300. However the quality of the arm has a bigger influence on the sound than if it's straight or "S" shaped!!

How offten would you recommend checking the counter weight and tracking force? I have seen views that range from, only if you move your turn table to every time you play a record.
@vinyleyezz9 жыл бұрын
+Metal Fan Dave I feel that checking it every time you play a record is a bit much. If I'm not moving my turntable around, I usually only check my tracking force once a month, if that. Essentially, after you set it up properly, unless you move the turntable or disrupt it in any way, then the tracking force won't change drastically.

Is the counterweight an upgradable 'accessory' like a cartridge etc? I cant adjust mine with ease as its old like the turntable, can I swap one out for another or are CWs model specific? Cheers :)

Thanks, Jarrett! Quick question for you, I have seen a number of videos where people have there turntable setup with a light shining directly on to the platter. I see yours is setup that way too. Can you tell me what the light is for and if there are certain types of lights to look for? Thanks again for all that you do!
@vinyleyezz9 жыл бұрын
Great question! I feel that most people, including myself, have a light there so we can see the grooves of the black vinyl better. That way we can easily drop the needle where we want it. It's difficult to see the fine details of the record without it! Hope that clears it up for you!
@bwhite2209 жыл бұрын
Makes sense, +Vinyl Eyezz. Appreciate the insights! Can I ask, what kind of light are you using? I've started to search for one but am finding big, bulky desk lamps instead of the kind you have. I'd like to get one that isn't so bright and bulky. Thanks man!

Hey! I tried balancing counterweight on my Fenton RP162 so that it almost falls off, but the needle still seems to hit the turntable mat (can't locate anti-skate if there is one), could it be that counterweight is just too light? Not very expensive vinyl, but not cheap as well...

The only reason I'm hesitant about getting into the hobby is I feel, I'll buy the record, listen to iit 10-15 times, then never touch it again. Like, Cds are cheaper, so it feels like you're getting more use of your money.
@SteveDave29 Жыл бұрын
Try your favorite albums 1st. Used LP stores ought to let you listen before you buy. I am GenX, so I was raised on vinyl, then cassettes and CDs. My forever albums will be on vinyl. I am building up a "cheap" audiophile system as we speak. I just dropped over a grand on vintage DENON analog amp/preamp combo. Bottom line: if you can't hear the details, difference between CD and Vinyl, and are not drawn to the whole flawed but glorious analog feel and sound, then save your money. D/A converters can always create CD-R of your records for when you are on the go. The records, you enjoy in personal time, over a steak, whiskey or wine and a cigar. CD or streaming is a convenience: like stopping to get a burger. Hope that helps.
