Wow - I'm blown away by the condition of your Dead Kennedy's album. Complete with all the inserts and poster - you just don't find those anymore! Money well spent. That record store looked as if they had a really nice selection of 45's. A++ I've heard the sound quality on the MoFi Bill Wither's album is second to none?? You picked up some SERIOUS heat for sure.

I was nice to find some critical pieces that I use to have. I was glad I went back and grabbed the DK album or I would have been kicking myself a very long time. Do you collect 45s? I use to but with space restrictions and too lazy to get up I stopped. I use to have a lot of 70s 45s, AM radio hits. Withers album did sound wonderful, I had been waiting for that for quite some time. I got lucky!

I’ve still got my Frankenchrist with poster I bought from Our Price in 1985! My mum ordered me to take it off the wall & replace it with a picture of Annie Lennox! Sadly the Annie Lennox poster is lost.. There’s a great documentary of Bill Withers on KZbin called Still Bill by BBC4. Incredibly humble girl who seemed baffled by his success at times. One of my all time favourites.

Thank you for the heads up on the Bill Withers documentary, that would be excellent. I had just washed a great Velvet Underground documentary on Apple TV. So many dang places to watch stuff, crazy world. Mom didn’t like the poster. Talk to her about censorship. I also bought it when it came out but it was a little later so it had no poster.

Hi Steve - Nice Boomtown 🐀 verbal gaffe * I Don't Like Mondays ( You said Sundays ) I saw Geldof & the boys at The Ambassador Hotel ( Where RFK was assassinated) & they were really good - They also opened for Aerosmith the next night & Geldof took the stage & said " Aerosmith suck " & they didn't go over well. I used to go to the now defunct Play It Again in Royal Oak. The owner , Alan turned me on to both The Verve & Slowdive. I like The Yes Album & Close To The Edge by Yes & 90125 is like all Trevor Horn Productions nice ear 🍬. I'm thinking of a Holiday in Cambodia 🇰🇭 .

When I was replaying it I heard that but then said screw it lol, I am the king of the gaffe. Haha. Holiday in Cambodia, that is an all time favorite song. I will have an OG from my local shop on that album! Too funny about Geldof slagging Aerosmith, haha. Great way to play a shorter set, get booed off the stage. Weird combination of artist. I have one Slowdive but do need more, I really like them also David

What a great stack of records. I love that Yes album too. My mom had Time Passages on an 8 track tape when we were kids and I have always loved that song. The Bill Withers album is wonderful as well. I should be getting my copy of the RSD Miles Davis album soon. Can't wait! Take care.

Enjoy Live Evil Melinda. Time Passeges, the whole album is so beautiful, so many great memories but I was 19 when it came out lol. So funny how my family was musical but never bought records. It was just an expense they would not allow, listen to the radio instead lol. I was the rebel and tended to spend my money rather quickly on records Some of these albums were such a part of my teen years, they make me smile which is what music is all about

Hey Steve - another great video. Finally some things I’m familiar with. Nice score on that Frankenchrist LP. Starship, CCR, Yes and Bill Withers. Nice vintage stuff. I think I sent you some live Bill Withers and a Starship show in one of my ‘stacks’. Timeless stuff. That Yes album was one I used as a ‘demo’ when I used to help hook up people’s stereos in the dorms back in college. I would hook up folks stereos for ‘free’ just to get a peek at what vinyl they had and what kind of system they had. Cool way to learn who had the better collections and who to hang with at the dorm towers I lived in. Would blare that Yes album out the Windows of the dorm towers with the volume at max. Memories. Still hobbling around here in Baltimore and getting better every day. Finally got my turntable up and running. Only have about 30 LPs with me so far, but it’s a start and many more soon. I’ll send another real letter soon; still no computer here yet. Good to hear your enthusiasm for the latest batch you scored. Still hanging in there, hope your doing the same! Good collecting, DOC in Baltimore

I think you need a Lap Top Doc. Great way to get working on that book. I have been playing a lot of the CDs lately. Courtney Barnett, a lot of the blues CDs , Tom Petty and more. They are definitely a lot of fun. It is great to hear your getting better. You definitely got the right attitude to heal quickly. I really loved the part where you spent time on that island, fascinating stuff. Talk about a great adventure and learning about lives priorities huh. Good to show something once in awhile that you know. These were definitely some favorites that put a smile on the face. Do you have an I Pad or are you watching all this on the phone? Come to think of it my TV does have You Tube now also. So good to hear from you Doc, thank you for the update Steve

Sometimes I found a pricey record store will at least clue me into things maybe I should keep an eye out for, or pay attention to. Sure, they won't get my money, but still an education. Always loved that Dead Kennedy's cover. Any time I hear the title Time Passages, I hear Al sing TIME pass-a-ges in my head, like a Pavlov response.

Now that's a record store. I hope to get to a real record store on the holidays. First snow here today. shoveling is so much fun. I got that Dead Kennedys album, no poster but I have the inner sleeve. I got 2 other albums and a t shirt by them. I got to do a video on them. I just ordered Year of the Cat on CD. Earth was the last JS I bought, Spitfire was the album after Red Octopus and then Earth. Always enjoy watching Steve.

Spitfire, forgot about that one, not a bad one either. The 70s album is how I discovered that group and they still remind me of listening to the clock radio in my room at night. I’m am building back my DK collection. My local store is selling me Fresh Fruit and Plastic Surgery, both OG. I would then have the three albums that I really need. We have 60 mph winds coming in tomorrow. It could be a real mess.

We got it all on UHF, wasn't that a Weird Al song back in the day...shop looks cool, bet you could spend hours browsing there with books and music mags and much more. Love the enthusiasm, yeah if all you can think about is a record and whether you should buy it, you probably should...just a general rule for life lol. I used to leave shrink on new records but somebody tipped me that they can constrict over time in the shelves and cause warping; sure enough I went back and checked some records I had bought a few years before and found a couple with bent covers from the shrink contracting. So since then, off it comes but I usually leave it in place on records that have had it on for 30 or 40 years already, I figure those are safe enough ha. Maybe loosen it up if it is on really tight. Never much cared for Owner Of A Lonely Heart that got all the airplay at the time but I did like the lesser known Leave It, ah just those song titles take me back to tuning in to my tinny little AM radio. My first one was shaped like an orange if you can believe it, think you unscrewed it or something at the middle to adjust the dial. Forgot all about that until fairly recently. Cheers Steve!
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 2 жыл бұрын
I never really had that issue with shrink wrap. I had a few that felt tight that I took off but otherwise no issue. At my age I’ll probably be dead by the time they warp lol. AM radio, it was special when we were growing up. We had a clock radio and every night and morning we would listen to it to see what was playing. The Top 40 countdown was also required listening. You had one of those cool radios! Good memories Doug

Hi Steve, nice to see the Frankenchrist LP with the penis poster. It is a work of art, and all men have one! I also have the original issue with the poster, didn't realise it was so valuable. Never listened to The Clean so I will look them up. Live Evil is a superb record, my UK original sounds fantastic! There is a very good Boomtown Rats documentary on BBC Four about their origins - Johnny Fingers used to wear pyjamas to school and the headmaster was furious and told him to go home and change - he came back to school in a different pair of pyjamas. Cheers, Paul

Loved the record store tour. Bill Withers is one of the best. The poster is kinda of interesting. I don’t think the Queen would let me frame and hang that in the music room. @@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I'll have to plan to go back and visit, I know it's changed so much. It's become an expensive area last I heard. A little side note, a girl that lived down the street from me became a bass player, playing indie rock and was in Outrageous Cherry for a few albums. Alice Cooper covered the title song Our Love Will Change the World, from the album of the same name, on his recent Detroit Stories record. Great selection Steve, I totally agree about 90125, it's always been my favourite Yes album. A lot of it is to do with personal memories and associations, but I do think the record is incredibly produced by Trevor Horn. I really like Time Passages with the great Alan Parsons production. I've been meaning to make an Al Stewart video for so long now, it's ridiculous. By the way, I don't find that Geiger poster disgusting at all...maybe there's something wrong with me. Try looking at is as if you're a medical man and it might take on a different hue. Enjoy your weekend, cheers, James

A lot of people didn’t find the poster disgusting, maybe the butts were too hairy lol. I would love to watch your video on AL Stewart. I loved his stories, he did so many historical songs. I had read he always wanted to be a rocker but he got tramped in more this slower vein of songwriting. His voice was perfect fir the songs he sang. I had a lot of his albums but this one holds the most meaning for me. Trevor Horn was on fire when he did the Yes album, seemed like he could do no wrong
