@mlblue535510 ай бұрын
It’s not easy, but you can do it! Before you enter the store, just decide to just buy one album. It’s like going to the casino. You have have to leave after you win. After you find one record, stop looking at other bins, go up to the counter, pay, and then leave. I bought only one album for $10 the last time I went to Finders Keepers in Plymouth. Problem was, I went to Dearborn Music in Farmington right after, and bought four different albums. So, it didn’t work so well. Yesterday, I got an email from a company overseas about an album I wanted last February, I haven’t seen it online or at stores. I had to buy it! It’s all adding up again. The vinyl rabbit hole! Nice books Steve! Funny that I sent you a message about the book I found. Stafford is coming to town! Get your popcorn ready!

Hurray! Steve is out and about! 😊 Well, those Chemical Brothers vinyl albums would probably end my spending spree… oooh, I love that Orbital (the one with the skull). And there’s one of my favorite finds last year, the double Best of Byrds. Nothing to say apart from that one made me happy. Not that it dampens your fear of spending but your videos make me glad (and sometimes make me spend more money… ha ha, you may see an example tomorrow… not even kidding). Listened or spinned another one of your inspirations a couple of hours ago, the Hives! That was a banging rocker! Making a note of that book about England. Love history as you probably know by now. Very nice video, sorry not sorry for your wagon… debarkation 😊

Hi Steve, 😂! Super video. Guess the only way around this problem is to shut yourself away from social media, KZbin and record shops! I'm trying the Stunty tip of not automatically buying a new album by an artist because I bought their previous one and enjoyed it, but listening to it first. Difficult, but working. Great to see Michael Woods popping up, used to love his history programs on UK TV many years ago. I can add my recommendation of the Grinderman albums, have them on CD, first one especially is fire, I think you will love it. Enjoy your weekend.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity914710 ай бұрын
I love Michael Woods. Educational TV in the US would play some of his series. He made history so interesting I have a few of his books. Would love to hear a lecture from him. I also dont automatically buy a second album from an artist especially if I really like them because often it becomes a disappointment as we hope for a repeat of what we loved in the first album. Social media has helped to fuel consumerism. It’s an expensive world Cliff!

Bad Finger is a Beatles kind of band, they were formed after the Beatles and were said to be the next version of them, it didn’t really work out lol. I have no idea about that Blue Cheer, it looked interesting but I didn’t really need it. Instead I bought a really expensive album!

I feel like I finally had a V8: watching Steve at a record store flipping makes my day better. Now why didn’t you get that Village People record?
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity914710 ай бұрын
I use to have that VP record. It was super hot when I was in college. Macho Man always filled the dance floor. I use to have i5 along with the Barry White album. Me and record store are not conducive to my retirement account Chance

The two Grindermsn records are a more explosive side of Nick cave. Smaller groups. Great stuff ✌🏻

Mazzy, I remember seeing that album around when that came out but I had no idea about the music. It was definitely right up my alley. I guess I do like Nick Cave!

😂😂😂... Steve... Steve ....Steve... Walking in the store all by itself is a fail. And by no means am I judging I'm just enjoying your video. We are programmed from early childhood capitalism. Lol.... Music is better than money and take that from a guy that's single 🎉😂😂😂... I must say I do use my streaming device plugged into my stereo system it's nice when I get that itch to have a specific expensive album.

Brian, I need to get into streaming more to save money but it’s like books, I like the physical media. I need to go to a record store with know debit or credit cards, just cash and force the issue. I can the spend the next few years thinking about the super cool album I passed up because I didn’t have enough cash lol

You lost the showcase showdown because you overbid. It's tough. I've been trying to reel it in on the spending. I have bought two records since November. I bought the new Michael Nau record. I just ordered Godsmack and the new Marquee Moon from Rhino.

Kevin, you have done a good job kicking the habit. Having a channel also causes you to spend more money but my issue is all the channels I watch that get me excited about music. If I quit YT I would save a ton, but I would also be bored lol. I looked at that Marque Moon, I have a good reissue of it but that is a favorite album of mine

@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 I havent made videos in a while but still involved with the VC. I watch and comment regularly still. I understand the need to buy stuff for content. For me it became a little overwhelming and I ran out of space and if I'm being honest...money.

I honestly did try. You have to be a pretty rude shop owner to keep me from buying, it has happened

Yeah good luck with not buying more records..... The VC is great for the most part, but definitely impacts the wallet.

Isn’t that the truth of it all. People accuse me of that to. lol. It does allow us to be introduced to so much interesting music that we never may have known about though
