The Michigan Record Club has great prices. The down side is; I sell out of my basement. I actually have registered the name, "Michigan Record Club". I'm just waiting for someone to try and steal our name. Then I will sue them and sell records even cheaper! Great video. Loved the records.

Hey Steve. I loved this one. The ELO record brought back great memories of my best friend and I of listening sessions on his new Pioneer beast reciever and first generation Bose 901s. Thanks for the subtle shout out about our RS visit. That was a nice day. Jeff Whicher visited that Detroit RS too. Nice speakers laying around. I love the Tshirt 👕👍. Greg

Very nice store. I remember that Jethro Box set when it came out... Horses - one of my great cheap pickups - they didn't know what it was in the antique mall. Eldorado - apparently Sharon Osborne came up with the cover art when she was working at her dad's office as the secretary (since her Dad was their manager).
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91472 жыл бұрын
No kidding, Sharon thought of that, that is fun trivia. I always love how she took over Ozzy’s career and then went to war with her dad. No big surprise I guess. When the JT box set came out they were still a real novelty. Now any album gets a box set filled with things you tend to ignore but they look cool.

After looking at that fabulous front room I was inspired with some display ideas for my music room. I really like the upper long shelve that they have with the lip on the edge to prevent the records from falling. Which is essential if you have a high shelve. Even from six or seven feet you could get some series corner dents if the album falls. I have done it a few times. Really nice place Steve. Being a longtime Red Wings fan I have always wanted to see parts of Michigan. Now isn't Woodward Ave directly in the downtown Detroit area? Or did you say that? Solid choices. Especially the P Family. Loved that show. I remember Peter Grant talking saying that Rueben Kincaid was influential in his decision to become a manager. Excellent post S~ Rob/Boston BTW. I was kidding about the Peter Grant thing. I am sure that you knew that already. {smile}
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91472 жыл бұрын
What, I just told everyone what you said about Grant lol. That was a very upscale record store. It was a delight to shop but you had to be careful on pricing. What a nice listening room in the front of that store. Makes you just want to sit there and kick back. Sheesh, and this store is only an hour away from me, but the border usually makes it a longer trip. From your flip through, there are a lot of records I need there. I have that Kraftwerk "Autobahn" album cover. Seems like your cold is over for the most part. Glad you are feeling better (mostly anyway). I also have that Tull boxset which I love because of the many outtakes and etc. I didn't know you could dance the two-step with a spider (?) so well. It seems most of the Talking Heads albums have gotten quite expensive. Funny story about The Partridge Family. Fun video!

The border is a lot of hassle isn’t it. It’s getting better but still time consuming. Wow that Kraftwerk album with that cover goes for some good money. Hey Steve - great store. I’d have a hard time leaving stuff behind, but, prices matter. (Mac’s first LP!) Wonder what kind of ‘turn-over’ they have. I Don’t like stores that are more ‘museum’ than market. By the quality of some titles, you can tell they’ve been sitting there awhile. In a cheaper shop, they would fly out of there. Glad to see Patti make an appearance. Got turned on to her very early thru Lenny at Bleeker Bobs in NYC. Saw her many times before her sabbatical. I still have her first 45, on Mer, with Tom Verlaine on guitar, purchased for cheap back in the day. Tons of her stuff in the collection. One of the first true American punks. Great additions to your collection! Keep digging… Doc in Baltimore.

Doc!!! The store was kind of a museum. Prices were not made to fly out but they had items I have not seen so they were going more for a hipster type market which would match the area. It was a good time in there. Patty really was on the forefront of punk. Did you see her at CBGB’s. It was nice to get that album back. Someone sent me a beat up Ethiopia album but it plays. I’m in Detroit tonight. I got a 6 AM flight to PR. Looking forward to some sun

Very nice independent record store.Don't have too many of those around my neck of the woods. It doesn't surprise me that the prices were high, bricks and mortar stores in the centre of towns and cities are always going to factor in the overheads. It's a shame John Lydon is such an idiot these days, that album just hasn't dated at all. Nice 5 lp set of that Tull comp, I have the abridged 2 disc version. The Eldorado suite is nice although my favourite ELO is A New World Record . I remember an interview with David Byrne on a rock show from here in the UK back in the early mid 80s called The Tube and Jools Holland was interviewing David.Jools asked why David Byrne wore that oversized suit from Stop Making Sense and Byrne replied; " It makes my head look smaller!"..just great . Holy jazz bins in that record store, everything looks original too...but yeah, not the sort of place you are going to find much on the cheap side from the looks of it. Boy first the pornography (yeah don't think we missed that Blind Faith album!) and now the violence, you are going to have to rate your channel PG Steve. I have never seen that other Men At Work, bought Business As Usual and Cargo when they came out, first one had those big hits but the second was just ok, I never really loved it. Kept them for many years but finally took a deep breath and cut them from the collection a few years back. Kinda tough to do with records I've owned for so long, from brand new but they didn't really hold up that well over time. Found a copy of the Pistols album in an antique store nearby a couple years ago - I guy I went to high school with was into them, he used to do a pretty good Johnny Rotten impression "we love our queeeeen". I can still hear it - SNAFU we used to call him but I think his real name was Rob, one of the few punks at my school. I got along with him ok but if he found himself getting too chummy with you it was like his punk alarm bells would go off and he'd have to say something abrasive or rude to keep you at arms length lol. Cheers Steve!

Those albums were all originals. It was crazy how many they had but the prices were higher which keeps them from flying out the door. The place was very nice but not for the budget conscious. Great flippin’ segment. I can never find the Cult’s Electric in the wild. Hopefully you only make cheap mistakes. Have you found that you’re buying more familiar records since you’re still replacing albums from the old collection? What’s the ratio between buying new and replaced? If it’s not too bold of me to ask. When you get a replacement; do you still listen to the record? No special reason for asking, just curious.
@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity91472 жыл бұрын
Boy did I consider picking up that Cult Album but that was a little pricey, still…very tempting. Great questions Eric. I would say maybe about 30% are replacement now I listen to every album I bring in usually several times. For the most part I now try to find just the one or two key albums from an all artist that I really like. Quite often now it is a new reissue as originals have gotten too pricey.

LOL... looks like a joint for interior decorators. Antiseptic interior decorators at that. Either that or it's a front for some criminal organization, probably the Chinese Commies... I'd report them to the FBI if I was you Steve.....

Lmao Bobby, I knew something was up. Next time I’m sneaking into the back room.

Beautiful record store but, if you’re shopping in a store that looks nicer than your house, you’re paying way too much for the records within. If I were severely curtailing my ELO collecting, I think I would still have to acquire New World Record. A high point. As I've stated, I've covered the Partridge Family, Brady Bunch, Ricky Seagull, Banana Splits, Archie, Hardy Boys, the various Cassidys, Tina Yothers and beyond. There is no show on television so low that I will not be compelled to purchase its musical outpourings and tune-mangling shame.

Lmao no show too low for you Darrell. Spending time with you to spin records could be a painful experience. New World Record is the only one you need to have from ELO, my favorite and it covers all the bases. After that it turned to crap. Some people called the record store a museum. I did enjoy my visit and will be back.
