​@@ChaChoRrom Totally agree. If you buy a new camera now, it probably would be worth investing into someting better, as this camera is prety old. Even for low budged in 2020 you can get someting nicer. I bough this camera couple of years back and I still can't manage to save up enough money to buy a new camera. So having Magic Lantern installed just makes it worth for me. I think that there are lots of people in the similar situation. For totall newbies that JUST bough the camera and want to learn how to take nice pictures, Magic Lantern is totally unnesesary in my opinion. But it does give some extra functionality that is nice to have if you learn how to use it. Like bracketing for HDR images and Intervelometer, focus peaking etc. For total newbies I would advice to just use camera as is, at least in the begining. Learning how to expose and compose is far more valuable than anything else. Installing Magic Lantern will just be to much for beginers :P Hope this helps-

@@OliverPilates Honestly I have no idea. From what I read it's unlikely, specially if you are using safe and tried build. It seems like it could happen as a user error rather than something wrong with the program itself. So double check and read the manual twice, just in case. But I can't guarantee anything. I think that going to their forums and reading manual will help you understand the process better.

It's probably a blend of kit lens 18-55, 10-18 IS STM and Helios 44-2 M lens. And I use Zhiyun crane 2 for stabilization.

Hey looks amazing man. Beside the 1,6 crop factor of the 700d. Are there any high quality raw recording modes with no additional crop on top of the 1,6? For example would I been able to use my canon 10-18 @ 10mm and get a 16mm equivalent look in any raw video modes? If it's possible at all, is the footage usable as I read that ultra wide angle lenses can suffer from aliasing. Are there any higher frame rates than 25 for example 50 possible for raw video recording? Is single autofocus by touch possible to grab focus?

Yes, the crop is 1.6. There an option to crop if needed. There might be some aliasing and artifacts but for the most part it's works great. Not sure about 50fps. Autofocus works normally.

I was wondering - in a comment on this video, you say you use the mlv_rec (Raw video 2.0 in the module menu), but in the video you are using the mlv_lite (Raw video v1.1 in the module menu). Thats a good question tjat I dont know the answer to. My best guess is that there is no official version for 750D and you cant simply use a different version. It might break the Camera. Maybe in the future. Good luck

Was looking for a way to install or create a custom colour and contrast profile on my 700d, because the normal profile is nice but is too contrasry to properly edit, but 14bit video?? Yee It's way better I think, but you have to grade it. If you have lots of time then you can download custom profile too, from Technicolor Cinestyle. And if you combine it with magic lantern you can lower compression on the codec a bit. CBR ratio x1.3 or something. It's useful if you want to shoot lots of footage but don't want to use RAW because it takes up so much space. Good luck =)

I'm using 128Gb card. Extreme pro 95MB/s. I use 700D Camera with the firmware 1.15. There should not be a problem but just in case, google your exact card model and camera. See if anybody had a problem and if they solved it or not. Might have been been an issues that is not related to the card size or something fixable. Hope it helps.

I don't have that specific camera but I can imagine that you probably need to turn on raw recording in the meny. There was a lot of features just added to the camera it might be worth go through and figure what's available and what they do. Look at 0:35 for the version I'm using. It's on 1.1.5 firmware. And then you have to enable mlv_rec and mlv_snd in modues. I record on 1736x726 14bit losless and use MLV_app to cpnvert MLV into DNG. Maybe I should do a video about it in the future. But there are so many on KZbin allready. I think it will get stuffy?

As I understand. Magic Lantern starts and loads from the memory card. You are not removing Canons firmware, it runs alongside. Removing or flashing the card means camera will revert to working normally.

According to the ML Raw Calculator the 700d has a max writing speed of 40 Mb/s and is limited to record 1728x972 video for around 4.6 seconds. How are you able to record longer takes? Nice shots, considering the price of that body and the lens (Canon EF-S 10-18 mm)! I still use a 600d but it only has a writing speed of around 21 Mb/s, which really sucks. So no big things, even using ML.

That's the magic of 4k build. Somebody figured out how to make it losslessly compress video. That way you are still below the max writing speed.

I use Magic Lantern for normal photography too. There are tons of useful features like intervalometer, bracketing etc. But yes, if you insert a new memory card or wipe ML from the old one, camera will just start up normally.

I don't think it ever overheated on me and I live in Bali. You can see the temperature and it's gets red (whatever it means) but it haven't shot down on me or malfunction. It did freeze couple of time when I try to play back files from camera, I just have to take out the battery and it works again. I use Zhiyun crane 2 and sometimes it does not want to respond and I have to restart the camera. So there are some bugs, but I'm willing to live with those.

Don't be confused with 14bit. It's just a way of saving data, it does not mean that sensor becomes magically better and your dynamic range does not really increase. It just give you more control over exposure and colors in post. It does help a lot, specially because you skip compressing data in camera and losing some of the detail. But I would not advice anybody to buy a camera just to put ML on it. I would rather advice to buy a camera that already has all these features. Specially because these cameras are old. For example I believe that picture out of gh5 looks nicer and easier to work with. Or maybe even go for BlackMagic 4k. I would only advice to use ML if you already own one of the supported cameras. But if you really need an answer. If I had to choose any camera supported by ML then I would probably choose Canon 5D m3.

There are different versions of Magic Lantern and they might have different features. Something people might want to test a feature before making it available to the public or there might be some people who want different kind of features. For this video I was using a mod called 4k. It does have lossless compression.

How do you keep your Exposure at 0.1 continuously? I’m not sure if this is the issue but most of my footage come back with pink and purple glitches in some frames. And my exposer almost always says “OVER” and drops to 1.0+ constantly :/

It might be lack of writing speed as this guy suggests. www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7349.0 Try reformatting the card (NOT quick format). There is also something called card warm up inside of magic lantern, that might help. And there is a also "sd uhs hack" module somewhere, but I'm not sure if it will help or make it worse for you. Maybe you should run a benchmark to figure out if the writing speed of the lack is lacking or not. I didn't get pink frames because my camera just stops recording if it can't write to the card. Usually it was after 10 seconds or less on high resolution. But with 4k build it's much better because it's compressed the video.

IAMDIMITRI Using an Extreme Pro Sandisk 64gb 90mb write speed, for some reason it only glitches out when using Raw 14 bit Lossless, today I booted up the regular mlv_rec (not the lite version) using 14 bpp and noticed no glitches at all in my .DNG frames It stops at *11* seconds of recording yet it’s given me better results thus far than lossless. I would really prefer lossless for its compression so will continue to search for a solution. Will check that link out now! :)

IAMDIMITRI Yes, but I only use it for exporting, is their anything specific I should be removing possibly from the “Edit” tab before I do so? I edit in Premiere so exporting the footage in the rawest form for the dynamic range works best for me. Noticed “Allow Creative Adjustments” under “Profiles” tab was enabled, turned it off and no red or blue dots appeared. It also made the footage brighter? Pretty sure I was exporting pre-edited footage this whole time lol

You will need to do the same procedure to both of the cards. Make them bootable and copy magic lantern files on both of them. When you insert fresh SD card into the camera, it just reverts to working normally-

Live view border? You mean like overlay? I don't know I haven't tried that. You can customize some stuff But I don't know how much. Or do you mean like as a clean signal for HDMI output? I haven't tried that in ML but Canon released software recently, to make your camera function as webcam. It supposed to be clean signal out.

I had to update the firmware 1.1.5 on the camera so that I could use magic lantern version you see here 0:35. It's a bit different from the main build, it mostly allowed me to film in 1736x726 continueslly because of lossless compression. Also sound recording works without problems. That's basically it. I had the ability to record raw before the update too, but I was only limited up to 10 seconds of recording. You can try it out to see if this is for you or not. The real magic happens afterwards. There are a lot of Raw to DNG programs but MLV App works the best and it's free. Just convert filed to DNG using the app and import everything in Davinci. From there it's as straght forward as any video file. Good luck =)

I don't think it's your SD card that is a problem. I use Extreme pro 95 Mbps but I know that you should be able to use slower cards too. Maybe you should try 4k build from experimentals and see if you can get longer recording times with that? Using 14 bit lossless compression. I have a video on my chanel about it, 14 bit raw.

Does the raw recording improve dynamic range. If so how many stops it can go also what are the cons

I didn't do any scientific testing, only what I perceive by eye. And there is not really that big difference in dynamic range. But you don't get compression artifacts from the compression. I think you can push it a tag more in grading. You still get artifacts when you push the image but it looks a bit different. I would still advice to expose correctly. Sometimes you get harsher moire pattern, but that can be avoided when you record in cropped mode and maybe possibly avoid by using different debayer pattern. And the file size if larger. The benefits are: No upscaling in camera, more color information. Pixels do not go through Cameras compressed codec. You can push colors and exposure a bit more in post. But this is all I have in DNG format for now.

No I actually haven't tried that yet. I don't remember why. I remember knowing about it and researching it but could not find good information and user manual. Now that you mentioned it I did some more digging and I could not find official module on the website and I could not find a standalone module. I think I'm doing something wrong. But I did find another build for 700D with this module included (Dannes Build crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_isogain_1x3_presets_2019Apr02.700D115) and you know what, I like the options that comes with "4k Experimental build much better". I can record 1736x976 continuously, 14bit lossless without crop mode. (I don't like cropping even if it gives me more resolution). So I will continue using it on my 700D. But I did copy the sd_hack module onto this build too and it seems to load but I don't think I will be needing it. I'd rather not play russian roulette with my data and I actually didn't have the need for faster SD write speeds after I installed 4k build.

I think it depends on your needs. I think that most people would not bother recording raw video. But there is also lots of photography features. I think you should watch more videos about Magic Lantern and decide if that's the workflow you want.

hi bro, i'm just thinking about using ML on 650d, since the camera is cheap and it use sdcard not cf. still wander if the quality of the MLV is depends on the sensor and proc? or still depends on the default quality by canon. for example.. canon 60d (semi advance) with digic 4, canon 650d ( entry level) with digic 5... do you think which one could take the video better with ML? thank you

Writing speed does matter. 60d writing speed is around 21MBps while 650d is around 40Mbps. You can check the calculator here rawcalculator.netlify.app/calculator_desktop 60d does have a larger buffer size so initially it would seem that it has an advantage, but if you lower the resolution you realise that 650d can record continuously on 1280x720 while 60d can only record for 18 seconds. And if you install 4k build and use compressed raw recording, then 650 can probably record continuously on higher resolution! 60d came out in 2010 while 650d came out in 2012. (I would go with 650D but do your own research). Good luck.

If you are really new to DSLR, my video right now wont help you with anything =/ I would advice to learn the normal functionality of a DSLR first and theory behind it. When it's it becomes not enough or boring you can experiment with firmware updates and third party tools. Or else you will risk it becoming overly complicated and boring because of that.

You need 4k build from experimentals in order to record more pixels for longer. Because of compression. But still, you can push it further. I have a video on that. But its still fidelly to execute. I can't compare to eos m because I never used it. But I can tell you this: I had green fringing problems on the old build and old fimrware. Now I'm on 1.1.5 firmware and different ML build and at the same time I switched to using MLV app for MLV->DNG convertion. I don't know what step fixed green fringes but now I don't have green fringing anymore and the frames look much more cleaner.

My 70D has no alias/moire in 1x1 crop mode but it turns my 17-55mm lens into 51-165mm. Also ISO must be kept at 100 in this mode as the noise is 3x more noticeable.
