If you want some example files.
This is raw filed that comes out of MLV App after you convert MLV to DNG.
Note that this is one frame, you get 24 of these per second.
And usually you would need to color correct raw files, but you should have more latitude.
These are recorded in 1736x976.

1. If you are not using RAW, then you simple crop top and bottom of the frame. One of the benefits of using 2:35 in raw is that you don't need to record top and bottom and you are able to fit more data. WIthout Raw I don't you can record anything else than 1080p. 2. Sandisk 95Mbps Extreme pro.

Ye, it has to be updated. I use Bilal's crop_rec_4k. It already includes everything you need. I was able to achieve 1736x738 @40fps, with 3x3 binning and aspect ratio of 2.35. That was sometime last year, I haven't read the forums since then. (Link to Bilals in the description). There is a long explanation about how to use it on the forum.

hey Mate! I watch ur vids with a lot of interest. I can honestly say your clips are really good! monkey shots, and football at the beach! amasing. Can you tell me which lenses are your favourite and what lenses would you recommend ? do you only use modern lenses with IS ? what gimbal / stabilisation method do you use? btw. I am filming with EOS M (and sometimes 50D) . and absolutely love canon colors + ML RAW.

I don't own many lenses so I don't know if my answer is any good. But right now my favourite lens is Helios 44-2. It's also cheap. And I use gimbal Zhiyun Crane V2 as much as I can to stabilize shots. There are probably never and better gimbals out there, I would go for a newer model.

Try Bilal's 4k build. You should be able to record 1736x738 @40fps in raw which is pretty cool. Or record @24fps but with 1x3 binning modes. Should be less moiré artifacts and smoother picture.

@@IAMDIMITRI HI, I will try to be quick. installing its easy . puting the settings its hard. went i have sound, i have bad image(stock pixel)-the camera quick gets overheatting 40-55' - The camera freeze , so i have to take the batery to reset- i have a sd sandisk ESTREME PRO 64GB- im using Nightly.2018Jul03.700D115- some times the camera stop recording at 10 sec. and other time i can record mor than 20 sec. i hope you can make a video like more detail of what am i doing wrong and help other people as well. This MLV App? mlv.app/ There should be some option on the right side. Enable raw correction and click on fix Focus Dots. That should fix the dots.

Try to google for latest bilals build for 700d and read instructions. There are tweaks to make recording longer. Lossless compression helps a lot. Uhs overclocking helps a bit. And there are some hacks that turn off sone unneccesary functions to save some speed.

Yes. There should be modules that you can turn on and off. Google bilals build 4k 2022. You should find a forum post about what modules and settings to turn on to maximize quality etc.

Since the last EOS Webcam Utility seems to output the video as progressive, I thought that I could achieve a "Clean HDMI" output with ML... but I haven't' found the solution. That's a good question. Here I got 5 files for you to look at. This is how 1 frame of video looks like after you used MLV App to convert MLV files from Magic Lantern into DNG filed. You usually have to color correct files like these but you should have more latitude to do so in comparison to h264 video that comes out of the camera naturally. Hi.. Latest ML Im still using on this camera is a NightlyBuild that can record up to 1440x720 and I have it on 3 cards with same settings.. What do I do to install this one ?? Should I completely uninstall it from camera and cards and format the cards and do it all fresh Or can I just replace files on all 3 cards and re-install it in camera with just one card ?

Yes, you just need to replace the files on the card with a different build. The one that allows raw lossless compression is called 4k build and can be found under experiments. Make sure firmware matches the build you are downloading. I could not find were to download just the file for sd_uhs so I uploaded just that file separately on google drive. Link in description. Everything is working great except I cant go as up as 1800 , not even 1760 but only up to 1728 ...., the actual FPS stays on 24.004 when desired 23.987 is chosen.. Im using the crop mode 3x3 720 ... in 1280x720 60 fps canon video mode .. wht am I doing wrong :) ... I used ML for years just not this combination... I can shoot contionuously.. Its all good .. Just that my image has alot of barrel distortion now.. its like fisheyed.. ajd ML says I should stretch it by 1.67x in post to get true 3:2 .... I plan to film 3:2 for the 1.5X stretch factor in closeup for anamorphic lens (actually a rehoused 35 NAP glass without a variable diopter so I have to double focus it and use 2X stretch factor for inifnity and 1.5X for closeup..... AFTERRRRR I stretch both shots by 1.67x ?... this distortion now makes it all a nightmare and gives me more workflow :D ( on top of the pink dots removal with MLV Producer or what not :D

@@firestarterman6889 You are welcome=) Did the UHS module also worked? It overclockers the card reader. I heard it's a but risky. But it's possible to increase recording time or resolution. It worked for me. Maybe you can increase 1 min to infinity with that. =) And ye, I also can only do 1728 normally. 1800 only when I activate crop mode.

Great Video! Was thinking about buying one, but I am still uncertain whether the camera overheats quickly or the battery dies within 30 mins of recording. Technically it's 1736x976 as highest resolution in 16/9 for video. Anything above is just a scaled up version of it. If you already have the camera then you should try it. But I'm not sure if you should buy this camera in 2021. Mostly because the price difference on used cameras is not that big. For example, I would rather have Black Magic Pocket camera (original), that does shoot raw and have all the necessary features rather than fiddle with setting and extra time it takes in post. Or maybe find cheap 5D mark 3 for magic lantern or something. I think it's all depends on time and budget. But if you just want to learn and get into photography and want cheap manual camera then I think it's good.

Maybe to clarify my situation: I started a channel with focus on talk head/educational/inspiration content with some B-Roll clips recently and up until now I shot the videos with the DJI Osmo Action, which is perfectly fine under good light conditions. If it comes to indoor filming and during the night, it get's really grainy sadly and that doesn't satisfy me. So as I like filming some B-Roll, I am looking for budget options with an 1. mic input, 2. flip out screen to see myself during filming and 3. at least 1080p. That brings me to the canon 700d, which I would buy used and modify with ML. ^^

​@@andynguyen6218 Ohh ye I see. 700D is not really famous for low light and it takes effort to record and edit raw files with magic lantern. Osmos Action is superior in my opinion. Exempt maybe for when it comes to lense changes and depth of field, but that's the only thing 700D excels at. I'd keep shooting with Osmos. Or maybe get a camera that has all the features you need with current technologies rather than buying something from 2013 and patch it to work. I would only recommend 700D as a beginner photographer camera if you are on the budget. You can make it work for video with a lot of work and tweaks (this is what I made video about) but I would not recommend buying one in 2021.

This makes new cameras look pretty trash by comparison LOL.......... I am considering just getting 5DM3 and 700D or some other APS-C Canon just to shoot raw, maybe use a Feiyutech AK4000 gimbal with focus puller on it to bypass the lack of autofocus. Now sure how practical it would be for run and gun situation but fuck, these image quality, does not matter if you can shoot 4k LOG footage, it cannot touch RAW video at 14bit.

But also no. It's technically 14 bit but I think that 12th to 14 bit difference is mostly noise. And doing tests, you can't see difference between 10 and 12. Plus you are still limited by dynamic range and other factors. I thinks it's to fiddly and inconsistent to be run and gunning with 700D. I never tried 5dm3 but looking at other videos of people who use Magic Lantern on that camera, it really looks awesome. I'm almost sure that you are talking about 4k Log on Sony cameras. I think I would take 4k log on Sony over 700D any day, but not sure about 5dm3. And I would probably take 4k 10bit log over Magic Lantern options because of ease of use. I'm saving up for a Black Magic Camera myself.

@@IAMDIMITRI Most I ever seen out of a LOG format is 12 stops, which is not far from lets say 5Dm3 RAW video. Problem with LOG is that you gotta get your exposure correct, you gotta get your white balance correct, you fuck up these its gonna have huge impact on your overall footage afterwards. In my experience LOG is almost more painful to deal with just because in a run and gun situation you do not have time to fiddle too much with the camera all the time to get everything just perfect, RAW video is more forgiving. The other thing I noticed is that with 5Dm2, 5Dm3 and 6D have noticeable analogue feel to them, there something the sensor does to the image that no other RAW shooting camera can match, the highlights rolls off nicely and there is a beautiful texture, I frankly never seen this on other cameras APART from much older video shooting systems that output RAW video, usually even today these are quite expensive despite being over a decade old and bulky as fuck.

If you follow all the steps. 4k build with UHS module and fast card you should be able to record continuously. But the resolution will be a tad bit smaller without crop.

@@IAMDIMITRI OK cool, my main goal is to record at or close to 1080p effective resolution RAW while avoiding any aliasing issues (that's why I mention the crop), then uprez to 4K for youtube. Your footage looks great, very clean, but my only concerns would be the aliasing and continuous shooting. I know the Canon EOS M has aliasing issues unless you shoot with a higher crop in the 5k mode, so I'm just trying to figure out how the 700D compares. Thanks for the info.

@@royhatts1 Yes it does have some aliasing and weird artifact in green color. Some straight lines have edges like a saw. It's not really noticeable on higher resolution. But Crop would be prefered if you want to avoid aliasing. I prefer wider angle. I mean, if you already have this camera then it's the best option but if you are planning to buy one. I would rather choose one that shoots good raw image straight out of the camera. Maybe the original Black Magic Pocket.

I'm also looking for a very cheap stills cam to practice photography with, so I was hoping to get something that could be used for both things until I can invest in a better camera. A t4i or t5i seems to tick those boxes for such a low price used.

At 2.35 You get about 1400x1860 resolution, then you scretch width to 4371 in post, and you get some really good quality video

Magic Lantern is available for 550D but I don't know how far you can push it. 4k build does not exist for 550D, so I'm not sure if there is 14Bit lossless support or not. You can still record RAW video but I'm guessing that resolution will be a bit lower. Good luck =)

in t2i you can shoot 1735 resolution for like 4 seconds, and if you push the "+" button zoom in the camera it unlocks higher resolutions even 2000 pixels resolution I think.. the problem¿¿ ypu will record only a second ahaha. Im gonna try the overlocking thin and see if I can get a few seconds more of recording time.

There are several different builds in the experimental. I'm talking about 4k build not the top one (lua_fix). It's a separate Magic Lantern build and you should format or just remove the old Magic Lantern build. But double check the firmware version of your camera. I had to download and update canons firmware from Canon website to version 1.15 before I could install 4k build ment for that firmware. I'm sorry but I'm not the best at helping people over the comments :D But I'm sure your question has already been answered on forums or reddit if you search a bit. Good luck :D

@@IAMDIMITRI i am currently trying this, when recording at max res it stops after about 3 seconds on average using your 4k 14bit lossless. my card is 90mb/s but the only way i have gotten it to be continous is by lowering to 960p, not even 1280p can handle it. how do you think i can solve this? also when i record the recording shows around 11mb/s which is weird, is it somehow capped?

Ye, that's probably because resolution is to high. There is help text at the bottom on Magic Lantern menu that estimates the write speed and tells you how long you could record for. It has to be continuous! So lower your resolution until it said so.
