I liked how he talked into the mics. So many reviews are music only (singing, guitars, etc.).

The REDD is fantastic. I would say it sounded like a magnifying glass...not saccharine and artificial, just a bigger, better and more detailed representation of the source. Enhanced, yet somehow still natural sounding. As a professional voice actor, I'm glad they showed how these mics handled dialogue!

super informative and helpful, thank you! i like the REDD on voice. on the music, for me, it's between the vibe-y C12 and the more clinical sounding C725. the C725 has more upper mids, depth/width, and detail than the C12. but i'm still not sold on it over the C12, which has a cool, calm and collected presentation. on the music, the manley was missing some body/bass/low mids and the chandler was missing some detail/high freq.

Thanks for that. Chandler catch my attention!!!

The josephson sounded like it was "already mixed" and had a very vibrant, lifelike, open and detailed character. The manley sounded less detailed and natural, but with a healthy dose of hype added in order to compensate. The emi was very musical, but lacked modern detail, finesse, and had an undeniably vintage coloration The telefunken sounded extremely musical, punchy, fat and rich, but also had a predominantly vintage sound. I would prefer the josephson for it's realism and overall 3D presentation; After all, once the the recording is captured in all of it's glory, it can be saturated, processed and sculpted as needed; but you won't get that kind of image at the time of capture from the other mics.

What's up with the highs? The REDD represents them clearly, not overhyped, but the other three sound a little bit muffled.

it would be great if we could download full wav files of the complete takes.... they all sound great anyway.

I'll second this. The music changed too fast, and without hearing the same section on each mic, it's tricky.

The Chandler or the C12 are in a totally different league. I like the Chandler more for spoken word.

Nice video :) What is the name of the studio monitors in the back??

The large ones are Focal Trio6 BE and the smaller models with white surrounds are Amphion One18.

the Josephson was too sibilant here, why? Was it on "moon" (FET) all the time?

manley ref vs manley silver? which works better on hiphop
@RecordingMag Жыл бұрын
Probably for more traditional hip-hip tastes I would think the ref C

C12 and it's not close. Has the 'air' factor they're known for.

Hallo great review !Can you please tell me which mic pre was used for Chandler Redd and Manley Silver?
@RecordingMag4 жыл бұрын
The Chandler REDD has its own mic pre built-in. For the Manley Silver I am pretty sure I used the Manley Vox Box preamp.

The Manley mic looks terrible and the key to change polar pattern also a terrible idea. That is too clunky. The c12 looks very nice.

Feels like the REDD made everything else sound utterly forgettable.

Crazy how there was no 251, 47, or 67.

These were simply the microphones that were on hand for review at the time. The reissue U67 had not been released yet.

Expensive mics in 2020? For suckers. A bit like with wines.
@joeboonmusic40044 жыл бұрын
Why would somebody choose to have cheap microphones? Maybe your ears will mature with age, just like the aforementioned wine :P
