@ac23AQ when bands record 4 tracks(quadtracking) you usually pan 2 of them 100% left and right. The other two are brought more into the center so say 60-80% panned left and right.

Can't you just duplicate 2 guitar tracks and then have it be guitar left and guitar right?
@AR-mq5oz7 жыл бұрын
what you can do is move the duplicated track to start a few milliseconds after the other, that way it makes a stereo effect. it's not the same as recording 2 guitar tracks but it's a cool effect you can try with a lot of different instrument that have a mono sound
@eltonsoaress6 жыл бұрын
You'll get a volume boost if you duplicate. Playing twice is never exactly and then you'll have a boost on the "body" of the riff rather than an increase in volume.
@7James776 жыл бұрын
No, because it will not add depth to the guitar track. Another thing to take into consideration is that the guitar tracks should be recorded with different guitars/pickups/amp so as to not sound too identical.
@homevalueglass38095 жыл бұрын
Just for anybody reading this for the future, duping and panning the same track even delalaying it a little will not fatten up to sound, it'll most likely cancel some the original signal out because of identical wave forms and it'll sound even weaker or you'll get a chorusing effect. No substitute for multiple tracks.

You don't want completely new strings on the guitar either... Break them in first...
@StephenAvery9310 жыл бұрын
AGPMandavel there's various reasons. Depending on your guitar, you can have tuning issues until the tension system hits steady state. I also don't like the tone as much. This is subjective and is also probably due to the fact I dial in my tone for the majority of the play time and not just the first hour or so of play time before the strings are broken in. You should really change strings before a recording project though.
@mosesgutierrez689710 жыл бұрын
Stephen Avery New strings can be broken in almost immediately by stretching them thoroughly during the string changing process. Even with locking trems, before locking of course. Tune up, stretch or bend your strings like you would while playing, tune stretch tune stretch, and tune. It's also important to add some pull or tension while you are.
@mosesgutierrez689710 жыл бұрын
Moses Gutierrez well you are first stringing or turning the tuning pegs with the slack on the strings. You want them to wrapped tight around the peg
@StephenAvery9310 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily... Especially if you have a floating floyd rose tremolo bridge. The coating needs to be broken in a little bit to get the usual tone as well, unless you have your tone setup for rand new strings so you have to change your strings every hour of play to get the same tone.
@AgusGonzalez199810 жыл бұрын
Stephen Avery But you are not supposed to record instantly after you put them, it's a little time after (a week, a few days) having 5 months old strings makes the guitar sound like shit

I use d'addario 12-60 and then throw the 60 away and strap on a 64. The larger bottom string really compensate for the dropped C string. The 60 is good for C standard but because the dropped C string is lower in tuning in relation to the others it really equals out the tension. P.S I'm aware that C and C dropped are different tunings completely.

@LambOfGod4Life888 hi..no you cant connect your amp to the audiocard directly since there must be always a load connected to the power section of the amp..if you connect the amp direcly, an high voltage signal will blow your audiocard and the output transformer of your head!!..you can get an external resistence(the same of your cab 4,8 or 16 ohm but most of the times gets really hot and its hand-made)i prefer my method(no sounds from the cab) and keep the cab connected..its cheap and quick

I got a used Seymour Duncan Twin Tube Classic for 100 bucks. Unlike other "tube" pedals, it's a full-voltage ALL tube preamp. It's only a "pedal" because you can put it on the floor and step on it. I have a lot of low-power EL-84 based amps, the main one I record with is the Peavey Classic-30. Not exactly a "modern" high-gain amp. However, with the TT Classic on a clean-boost setting, it absolutely scorches. Bass down treble up on the TT Classic, bass up treble down to compensate on the amp.

@Heineken1712 Always turn the amp up more. You get more bottom end, more tube saturation (if your using a tube amp), and a more powerful sound cause you really get those speakers moving and pushing air. A cranked amp sounds louder when recorded similar to it sounding louder in the room, make sense? Then after following his advice on here, your recording level, or your preamp level, should never be clipping, or "in the red" that will cause digital distortion and fuck everything up. 75-80% is cool
@mike.ashton14 жыл бұрын
hey bro the compressor settings are PERFECT. i screen shot the settings and applied them on the audio suite compressor in Pro tools, and it was perfect. it evened the levels without neutering the tone. thanks bro

@LambOfGod4Life888 yep so you get the raw distorted tone to pc and no audio from the cab..you have to use impulses to model your raw distorted sound and youre done..basically you turned your head into a preamp and you have a digital cab+mic power section..sounds 80% as good as the actual gear(you know,real mesa cab with real mics ) but it costs nothing to you and you can use it at home even at midnight :) cheers

Not generally, it can be used in solos, though I would recommend a delay to achieve that affect. And never with bass. Watch Feared's video on bass recording with that. It would turn to mud if you tried to double those low frequencies.

The best way imo to get the speaker sweet spot is to record a guitar part with a looper, let it loop, and listen to what your interface is hearing on noise canceling / nose suppressing headphones / safety ear muffs, or get into another room if you can. All that matters is what the microphone is recording.
@snapascrew13 жыл бұрын
@fearedse on a better note... almost everyone of my favorite records was done with 2 mics. and they all feature the 57 and the 2nd mic is usually a condesner that barely makes the mix.

@FreddyFromHell Crispy sound normally occur when you don't have enough mids or too much high or both. Try to mic up you're speaker more in the center, or maybe with a little more mids and less presence or high will maybe solve your problem. I know you can sound pretty decent with a peavey 6505+ and sm57 and a fast track pro. Oh, by the way you don't need compressor if you play evenly, it will not make you sound better, in theory. Personally i don't use compressor on guitars.

Good tip for Tube amp recording! Get some of them Laundry cage looking things put them in front of the cab! then get some thick towels or blankets and place them on the Laundry cage things! then of course position the mic and set that up etc but then the sounds from the loud amp will be drowned out pretty much but enough that you can still hear it if not a little muffled!

@Sarrgas You need to record them individualy, to get a true stereo effect. Copy-Paste sounds flat and can screw up the phase..
