PRS has a whole cheap line that are excellent (I have a $700 guitar from them that is my daily go-to). And an even cheaper line ($400) that are also supposed to be spectacular for the money (but I don't own one, so I don't know). So picking on them is bullshit. Know your shit before you embarrass yourself. Seriously.

I think Solar guitars is one of those brands that just really understands who they are, who their clients are, and what makes a guitar great. These cheaper models are so sensible and they don't really compromise on anything that might be prohibitive to buy. I like that Ola said "it has to be great at all prices, but it doesn't have to be the highest price" without actually having to say it and decided to prove it instead. There's a lot of shame and shade going to the rest of the industry just by proving that you don't have to spend $$$$ to get something worth having.

Hey Glenn, really like the progress you are getting with your playing. One advice I can give for your vibrato. I notice you do the push pull with one finger. If you want a smoother vibrato, keep your middle and index finger on the string to help support the ring finger in pushing the string. You'll find yourself using less force and will have better control on the string... Keep up the good work. Always a pleasure to watch your honest content.

I had a cheap used Epiphone and I could not tell the differtence from my buddys $5000 guitar. I just figured Im ignorant of the subject matter. Years later I spent $2400 on LP. It was a turd. Electronics failed in 2 months. Im now 53 and I ordered this S by Solar. It was delayed several times and it was worth the wait. Ive played it 2 hours every night for three weeks. All these pedals I own that I never really liked all that much, this guitar makes everyone of them sound good. Its amazing. Its like I got a new guitar and a half dozen new pedals. Im blown away. I think there’s a sweet spot from like 600-1000 where it plays nice (obviously) and it still looks/sounds cool and inspires you to play. That being said, for studio recording and just having access to ‘tones’ I’ve always gone for squire, epiphone, and the cheap Jackson’s. They play nice, sound good, and are CHEAP. I had an EP Sheraton that played just as good (if not better) than my Les Paul Traditional. But I would never take a Sheraton on stage (sorry Gallagher)

I'd say the tuning issues are probably more related to the nut - there's quite a few good tutorials on the interwebs for filing a nut. Even a plastic one should be fine ("vintij" Gibsons used plastic nuts, as much as tone snobs might like to forget that corian is a type of acrylic plastic) so long as it's filed right. I use a cheap welding torch tip cleaning kit I got from the hardware store.

The difference between expensive and inexpensive guitars is not in the sound. It is in the built/joint quality, attention to detail, feel, playability and most importantly overall vibe and inspiration. Some of these things you can only see some of them you can feel. Those are the things that make difference. Sometimes even the differnece in vibe , the constant inspiration resulting from that feel is worth alone to pay more. It does not mean that an inexpensive guitar cant have vibe. Sometimes an inexpensive guitar can be inspiring too, just it is much more rare. Just comparing the sound is meaningless, sound comes mostly from pickups and the amp.

I ended up paying $84, which is $55 usd! It's a great guitar! Very unique looking, it has a Tele body, and an SG type neck! I couldn't be happier with it, and it had even been tuned in the factory!🙂👍

@@danielvelkovski3156 Thanks! 🙂 I'm not a kid btw, but until this year, the only electric guitar I've had was a Yamaha Strat copy that I bought second hand in 1988 with $200 I got from my grandparents when I turned 18. It was all I really needed to gig for 35 years. While raising a family, a new guitar was never more important than my kids needs, or running the household, so I never bought one. I'm on a disability pension, so money is still tight, but at 53, I thought it was about time to have something brand new for myself! This guitar just was one of those 'I don't know why, but I've got to have it' things. At $159, it was a stretch, but $84 I couldn't pass up. Still used Afterpay though, $21 a fortnight. You're right about not needing an expensive amp, I've always just used a miked up practise amp, as I'm usually singing, and now, I run into an interface my daughter bought me a couple of years ago. Thanks for the supportive words, but I feel I may have given the wrong impression. 🤘🙂👍

Long gone are the days with that plastic table collapsing every 5 min in unboxing videos. This review was slick. Nicely done Glenn and team

You make the ultimate point. There are MANY more beginners, weekend hackers, hobbyists who are BROKE than some guitar snobs with deep pockets. Vintage guitars are cool. But at this point what most need are a solid, scarred workhorse than some heirloom.

You guys are a metal powerhouse. We need more crazy mtf bringing joy and heavy metal, even bassists. Love ya \m/

Glenn I snatched a copy of the Element Bass and in just a couple of minutes I was able to get a damn awesome tone out of a few tracks I recorded from a rehearsal for my band. I was very, very impressed. Having used other plugins and suffered through trying to stack a bunch of layers/buses until the damn thing sat in the mix properly (you would think bass is easier to mix...). I found element to get me to a point where it just sounds great in little time. It's amazing. Thanks :)

There was a dude on Reddit (i think) having a fit about the scale length being slightly short on these things. Care to give it a measure? Those higher frets are definitely rather out of tune as you demonstrated.

Nice guitar, Ola is cool. Being 66 years old I opt for Fender Ultra Luxe, Stainless Steel frets, HSS, Floyd Rose, Maple neck, Silverburst, Ernie Ball Cobalt 9-46. Dealer setup. String tree doweled and re-screwed because Yngwie says action high enough for NO buzzing. I know it's a clamped guitar but trust me, the string tree needs to be rooted and not loose. The intonation is as perfect as can be in Equal Tempered tuning. The dive bomb test, the guitar stays in tune magnificently. It's not cheap but this my Bucket List guitar. It's insured. Take it to the bathroom with me. Just like when I was in the army, your weapon is never more than arm's length away until you are home and locked up. My favourite real amp is Mesa Boogie Triple Crown 100 watt head with a Rectifier 2x12 Vertical Cab. My new digital experience and playing late at night at home go-to unit is the Fender TMP. Ola did a great review of the TMP but If you want the best demo of the TMP, check out Pete Thorn's recent excellent TMP demo. When playing late at night with headphones, the most popular for the TMP is the Audio-Technica ATH-50x Studio Headphones. A few years ago, I realized the headphone experience was vastly improved with IR technology, the Boss GT-1000 showed me that and now the TMP has been designed to work with headphones and FRFR cabs. Do you feel like your audience is, if not shrinking, morphing, and your advertising may, at some point, reflect that. Ola wondered why Fender sent him a Combo amp, but as he saw, it was an FRFR cab designed to be used with the TMP. Ola was impressed with how a Class D amp and modded hi-fi speakers would sound when driven by an EVH digital preset. Is the digital domain here to stay or will we be going back to 1969. Woodstock or Elvis in Vegas.

You make an excellent point about the risk of losing or damaging gear on the road! You hear about stuff like that happening all the time. It's something that really should be taken into consideration when making gear purchases. Love your stuff Glenn!

Good stuff. I’m a 48 year old new to the guitar hack/player/student. I’m about 40 days in. Trying to learn is frustrating and fun at the same time.

I think it’s a compliment that you get the “edge of break up” guys in the comments and Rhett doesn’t get Painkiller requests. I think we all just value your opinions more than the dork of cork.
