Greg Wurth I see you are using 2 apollos, while I imagine Warren is using an Avid rig. What do you think about Apollo converters?
@GregWurth9 жыл бұрын
+Alberto Dati I like the Apollos very much they sound great. I actually have upgraded to an HD Native card along with a Lynx Aurora since the video was shot. I had plenty of uad cards so I didn't lose the plug in power but I gained more digital IO which I was lacking from the Apollo units. If the Apollo had more digital connectivity I wouldn't have needed to switch.

Super cool stuff. Thanks for doing this. A couple of questions if you have the time. Is Greg usually tracking with EQ in? I am guessing the console is set up from top to bottom and signal follows that way? I would have thought he doesn't need the summing box since he can send the signal routing individually to the neve eqs as warren does with the SSL. The neves must be transistor coupled from the get go and I am sure will color/add harmonics/kiss the transients
@GregWurth9 жыл бұрын
My patchbay is normalled from mic panel to Neve 1084's into Pro tools. I usually use compression while tracking so I patch those into the chain or if I want to use the Burl or 312a's I patch those in as well. It's a bit different layout than I've set up at Steve Vai's studio. The summing mixer is used only for mixing. This room is completely modular.
@GregWurth9 жыл бұрын
Also in regards to using neves for mixing I am only using the mic pre/eq modules so they require the inward unit for summing. I hope that answers your question.

I love this video!!! Thanks so much for doing these!!! Question... When you print a di guitar or base as well as an amp, how do you go about capturing that signal flow wise? Noob question obviously!!! Haha Of course you mic the amp but how do you get the raw di guitar into pro tools??? Thanks again for taking the time to do this!
@Producelikeapro9 жыл бұрын
Hi +Dwayne Wyatt Great question! It depends, do you have a Di box? If so you could come out of the through into the amp and then into a mic input from XLR output on the back of the Di box. Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
@GregWurth9 жыл бұрын
+Dwayne Wyatt From the XLR output of the DI you will want to connect that to a mic pre so that you can capture the Direct signal at a good clean level. It's recommended to always recording a DI track from Guitar and Bass.

i really love this video. thanks warren and greg for sharing this.. :) i have a silly question though. the screen used is a touch screen? and how much in is done in the box... amazing setup!!
@GregWurth9 жыл бұрын
Gab Landman The touch screen is called the Raven MTi by Slate Digital. I use it for automation, editing, & dialing plugin settings. It's very useful. I have what is called a Hybrid setup which to me is the perfect marriage between analog and digital giving me the best of both worlds. Thanks for watching!
@Producelikeapro9 жыл бұрын
Hi Greg Wurth I'm going to have to try that out! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
@gappie649 жыл бұрын
Greg Wurth thanks greg. so it is a touchscreen.. i didnt know slate made some.. i know its a hybrid setup and i can dream of something like that what you made there.. but since the video was mostly about all the amazing analogue stuff.. ive been thinking about a touch screen.. cool.. thanks

why have the burl go into the apollo? is that necessary?
@Producelikeapro9 жыл бұрын
Hi +GeorgeElliasVideos that's a great question! Would have to ask Greg that! Thanks very much for your great comment I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
@GregWurth9 жыл бұрын
+GeorgeElliasVideos I use the Apollo to send 16 outputs into my Oracle summing mixer and the stereo buss output from the Oracle gets sent into my Burl B2 ADC which then converts the stereo mix into the digital world. To my ears the Burl does something that is sonically pleasing as it has transformers on the input similar to that of a tape machine. I hope that answers your question?

Warren this was an amazing video as always. I was wondering what your thoughts are on that ADL 1500. Im looking to pick one up in a few weeks. If it worth the purchase or shouldninjust stick with a Distrssor and UAD plugins? It will be used mainly on vocals during tracking.
