I have been using Reaper for the past 13 months and Kenny Gioia is by far the best of the best, with his one of a kind teaching style to help people record, mix and master quality music. I have the highest respect and admiration for his knowledge and wish him only the best! Thank you.

Thank you Kenny. I have been using Reaper 7 years and I have learned most of “my tricks” from your videos. This is a great example of return to fundamentals as all musicians must do to keep out chops at our best. And yes as usual, I found new”tricks” to add to my toolbox. Thank you for all that you do for all us Reaper users. You teach us how to be better than we were.

During the first 3 parts to this lesson I was concerned that the vocals were getting pushed back with each additional instrument track that was added having forgotten that it was just a scratch track. Once you recorded the actual vocal near the end it came through fine! Thanks much, Kenny 😊

Please Kenny can you create some FX chains for vocals and mastering... It will be very helpful.

A couple things... 1st. You must have a great audio interface, that has zero latency. 2nd. You never have world class musicians, that "get it right" on the first pass. But, as usual...your videos, are super informative...really give people a good starting point, to get them going. Thank you, again...for everything that you do.

Thanks Kenny! Hope you continue these production videos are really helpful and inspiring! I would also appreciate if you can show the fader balance rough mix levels of all instruments and vocals.
@REAPERMania15 күн бұрын
I felt it was a bit beyond these videos. Plus, I balanced a lot of it in the last plugin of each channel so seeing the faders probably won't tell you much. They're mostly all at 0dB.

For such kind of recording I would definitively use comping. No mentioning about setting up the headphones ? I certainly would use direct Monitoring in the interface.

Great serie of videos! Thanks for making and sharing! I'm just wondering: why did you record the Vocals twice? (BTW: love the sound of that singer!)
@REAPERMania15 күн бұрын
The first vocal was meant to be a guide scratch track. The last one was the finished vocal.
@GertBoers15 күн бұрын
@@REAPERMania Ah! Thanks for clearing that up. But to me, that scratch track already sounded ridiculous good. 😅
@REAPERMania15 күн бұрын
@@GertBoers It's the same vocal. This is all presented as a "how to do it". Not a real project. Most songs aren't this short. lol

Great song! The readability of the vocals needs to be improved a bit, I think the second track with additional midrange adjustments and compression will help. It's just that the vocalist disappears at some moments, porridge, you can even probably solve it by automating the volume. And the letter "k" in the words should be cleaned up a little so that it doesn't clang in the ears. As well as excellent and simple mixing, and without unnecessary plugins!

Kenny Great series, as usual but It has left me extremely confused : with other DAW's that I have used : Protools, Samplitude, Cakewalk, if you insert an effect and record audio, then it is printed to the recording. what i call top down recording. That is, the signal comes from the input the travels DOWN the channel, through the inserts, then to the master bus. Is it that Reaper works in the opposite manner : the audio comes from the input directly to the track then passes UP the channel strip, through the effects then to the master bus? If that's the case, how do you actually print an insert? for example say you've got a vocalist that is all over the place with dynamics and you want to tame them slightly with some lite compression, how do you do that? Thanks
@REAPERMania9 күн бұрын
Other DAWs don't print the effects either. You're just monitoring them to the Master Buss1. The FX are not being recorded. In REAPER, if you do want to print the FX, put them on the Input FX instead.
