Yeah it's a pretty cool unit. However, I also think it needs a traditional dust cover and tracking. It should be semi automatic too. Excellent review , classic Record-ology. 😎👍

0:02 As a big fan and collector of Hawaiian shirts and many things as well as records that are Tiki and exotic, I'm digging your Florida Orange Bird character shirt, Record-ology. As an aside and I Googled it moments ago (and you may know this useless factoid already), Orange Bird was created by Disney in 1969 and it debuted in 1971 as a mascot for the Florida Citrus Commission in exchange for the commission sponsoring the Enchanted Tiki Room attraction and Sunshine Tree Terrace at the Magic Kingdom theme park. The more you know... :)

That's where all Pitch Adjustments should be on the back or side of the turntable instead of on the bottom, which I always found stupid.

A Turntable that's great for someone who just wants to listen to records. For the more serious it's of no interest. Any speakers built in are limited to the sound being enclosed in the area they are situated in. I love that it has a heavy plinth etc and that the speaker cover can be taken off. However, when you knocked the platter, it made a sound as it does not have any dampening underneath. This will effect the sound. The dust cover is just personal taste. It's also best to not have hinges for the dust cover as when playing at increased volume they can affect the sound too. You should never play a record with a dust cover on if it can be removed from the hinges. It affects the sound and some covers can fall on some turntables too.

A tad too expensive, but over all it's a nice design with great overall sound it'd can double as a nice Bluetooth sound bar as well. If it had a better cart & stylus, or a cheaper price tag it would be a great record player for a living room setup.

The strange power requirements at 22:38: Notice the input power consumption is 24W. That corresponds to 12W x 2. The Bluetooth receiver probably takes less than 1W, so there is 24W available for the amplifier output. Phonograph motor may take more power than the bluetooth, so there is only 9W x 2 available that way? Just a guess.

The II is the standard symbol for PAUSE. Didn’t you notice the platter stopped. There is some anti skate, otherwise the tone arm would have quickly moved toward the center. Is the tracking force correct, as checked with a scale? Perhaps the anti skate would work better either way the proper tracking weight.

that II it's the pause symbol .............that is a sharp looking unit has a nice den or small library reading room look about it. Also have you ever come across the Andover Audio Spin Duo set up? it's two seaparate units that are paired togheter the Spin Deck (turntable) and Spinbase (speaker box) it's quite sharp, has a Bose look to it, priced at a mid range level. It's caught my eye was wondering if it'll be on your radar. in the future. but anywho nice vid the Savage sounds and looks good.

That Stack Stone record player looks good and sounds great. My only complaint for this company and any turntable/record player manufacturer is the speeds should be set at the factory to play properly. It shouldn't be necessary for customers to make incremental adjustments, but that ceramic non-conductive alignment tool is a useful bonus for sure at a $10 to $20 value if one was to purchase that tool separately online. :)

The slight variation in speed(s) can also be due handling during shipment. Additionally variations in the power source being supplied to the unit can effect this as well.

Yes, I agree with you regarding the dust cover. It's nice to have one that covers the whole turntable area and being able to close it while playing a record. However, even high end units such as Rega Planer 8 and 10 come with this style of cover.

The build quality appears to be very good. Since it does not have anti-skate incorporated I wonder if there is inner groove distortion created.

Great video. A full half hour....I was completely entertained. Thanks! The phonograph looks impressive. That's where I'd say "entry level" should begin. Anyone starting off with records should have a pleasant experience, regarding audio and tactile, with this unit. The lack of anti-skate doesn't spoil the item. In an occasional like this, I would find some pieces of thin plastic to put under the left-side rests on the bottom, and tilt the thing slightly, to achieve a degree of balance that way. I used to do that with portable phonographs in the 1970s because I can't relax and put things out of my mind. The dust cover ...Hmmm. While watching your video, I preferred the strange design for about five minutes. But then....as I realized the sound quality was pleasant, and that a person truly could listen to full albums on this, regularly, I thought a conventional dust cover would be better, a spinning record really can attract a lot of dust in an hour. A conventional dust cover would have been better. The wood display block is a stylish bonus. The subject comes up so often-where should entry-level really start? I say, right here. I think those 'skywin' (is it?) mechanisms should be banned by the US government, they really are that atrocious. No one should get fooled into spending money on those. There is no good reason as to why electronic devices should not have a minimum level of quality - like the way the government grades cuts of meat for consumer protection. We see what happens when just anything is allowed. If the Chinese want to be able to send millions of phonographs into the country, I don't think they should be allowed to send anything less than the quality of the item you have just reviewed. Anything nicer than that, would be moving up the ladder. Anything less, unacceptable. Modern speaker design really has improved. I can't deny it. Progress has been made. Probably the only good things about living in modern times is that we have better TV screens and better speaker designs. It was very sweet to see the viewer mail, at the end. I am old , and many times in my life as a collector, people have surprised me with kind gestures. To me, there is no gift that touches my heart more, than when someone shares music or books with me. I am glad to see it's still happening in the world today. Record-ology, thank you for starting on my Saturday night with this great show. Around 40 years ago, I was watching The Golden Girls and The Facts Of Life new episodes at this time, and getting ready for a night of clubbing. Now, I'm watching Record-ology on KZbin and getting ready for a night of washing records in the kitchen sink while drinking latte in my bathrobe. Thanks for bringing me regular doses of friendly entertainment.

The power difference is possibly down to the fact that the Bluetooth receiver uses much less power than the Turntable motor and phono preamp. That power saving is passed on to the power output stage. ( like in Star trek when they reroute the power to the shields by turning off life support)

I think this record player is vintage and old-school the good way! You see, there are several ultr-cheap devices that claim to be vintage and old-school because they look a bit like it in that they still have real switches and potentiometers etc, but they are flimsy and plastic-y most of the time and so nothing like the ones used to be built like a tank. With this Stack Stone record player, the switches seem to be very high quality, just like they used to be in the old days. So that's why I think this is old-school the good way; I don't know if it looks that way, but it sounds that way and the quality and used materials are in line as well. And last but not least: apart from the bluetooth receiver, I guess this one doesn't rely on software or micro-controllers like most of the gear nowadays unfortunately does.

Nice review! Hard to believe that rega branded that cart and charged 80 dollars for it about a decade ago. The orange stylus for it runs at between 1-2 grams and sounds exactly the same. I wouldn't call it "bright or exciting" but i only use it for old mono 45s so i like it for that. Slightly thinner cone tip than the ones from that era which finds grooves that haven't been touched making beat LPs n 45s better than if you were using a .04 elliptical which was the most popular stylus from the 70s till the late 90s. So the different shapes can make a huge difference. The graphite cantilever is really cool too. It is a great cart even if they made it in a rush to to save thousands of their tables from being recalled. I guess you call that a "happy accident"

First, love the Hawaiian shirt. I have a fairly decent collection myself. Also, was just was at the FredNats baseball game tonight and they were doing a Margaritaville/Jimmy Buffet theme night at the park, so I was rocking one of my Hawaiian shirts at that game (and yes, the FredNats won!). Did not help that it was nearly 100 degrees here, though! As for the record player, I do like how that unit looks. Is that a real wood veneer? It seems to sound really good, at least from what I can tell watching this through my own setup. The Enoch Light record may not be my cup of tea when it comes to musical tastes, but it is an excellent record to test these things with. I have to agree with the other comments that the lack of anti-skate and proper dust cover are two negatives for such a unit that costs nearly $300. Also to add, having the pitch adjustments right on the back and actually labelled, and then including a tool to actually adjust it with, is a huge plus. Would be nice to see other manufacturers do the same.

That's a CLEAN TT.. I love everything about the look. I disagree on the hinged dust cover. The included cover is a notch above from a cover with hinges. I would rather have anti-skate than a conventional dust cover. I mean how ugly would it look with those hinges in the back..🧐

The audio technia stylus is less than 20 dollars. They made that needle for it because it was cheaper to use a 3 gram stylus then fix the anti skate on the turntable (audio technica eventually made a replacement antiskate spring that you can fix the problem) unfortunately this table without antiskate, this tuntable needs a 3 gram minimum sphere stylus to sound and track correctly. I don't know of any 3+ gram stylus other than the one that comes with the table. Unfortunately you will hear a difference in your records after an unbalanced tonearm with a 3 gram stylus when you get a regular turntable and your records are shot out and worn out. The stylus does help with beat up records considering the huge weight the stylus takes.

Anti skate is an odd thing, and it varies across the surface of the record so can only ever be approximate. Using a blank disc (or even old CD) is not accurate. Anti-skate on a blank disk does not produce the same force as anti-skate in a groove. Dials can also be inaccurate, and the anti-skate springs may vary in strength. So I usually set anti-skate by eye: the stylus cantilever when playing a record should be exactly 90 degrees to the surface. I use the dial to get in the ballpark, and then increase or decrease to achieve a truly vertical stylus. A stylus when in a groove is pulled towards the centre of the lp and when there is no groove it behaves very differently as there is no pull from a groove. I have always set it the same as the tracking weight and that has been for many years now and I have never felt the need to do otherwise.if I do adjust the anti skate to a level where it is not moving on a blank disc surface, I have to dial in much more than needed.
