I spent many many years thinking I could learn to cope with depression and anxiety on my own. I learned to cope by avoidance. (Which is how my agoraphobia grew so strong.) But I'm now learning about how I can truly recover, thanks to studying storytelling.

Have you ever heard of Bio-feed back ? It is / was very interesting to have the chance to try this out. It helped me tremendously in learning how to calm myself..... how it feels to calm myself and how to be a big part in understanding how to do it. We can all do it.... calm ourselves, but with Bio-feed back sessions... you get to actually (see with your own eyes ) on a monitor..... watching your mind and body calm. No lie.... its real and so helpfull...... Man .. I wish I could explain it better to you. Maybe you could look it up. Anyway.... it was nice hearing from you on that topic...

I HAVE studied bio-feedback. I haven't really gotten to do too much with it... But I got a Fitbit (with heart rate), and was using it to help keep an eye on my heart rate, to try to keep it calm. (I need to find the charger or buy another...) It was the height of summer, though, and it was causing me to get a rash on my wrist, (heat rash I think), but now that we're cooler, I'd love to try it again... but can't find that damn cord! ....But I'd love to get to try (real) biofeedback!!

You know... now that you brought up the fitbit, that had me thinking that yes.... that could and well, would be helpfull in that way.... being able to focus on your heart rate, getting still and relaxing. Kinda the same thing as Bio-feed back, and without the cost of a session.... and most important ! No need for insurance to help with Bio-feed back cost. NOT CHEAP but I learned alot about myself trying it out a few sessions. BUT... yes the fitbit would be very helpfull because while you get still, relax and watch it on your wrist..... you will also learn what it feels like phsically.... your muscles and all else .... when you calm and THEN you will feel the difference in mind. WOW..... I really hope you can get your hands on the cord you need for it. I feel like you might not need it long..... its just that sometimes we need a refresher ..... a re-learn..... lol on how it feels to relax, how to get in that state of mind faster.... and YOU KNOW... that the faster we do this, the better off we are and those around us. One more thing.... Lets be just a little selfish here and remember that it is OURSELF that unfortunately has to deal with this problem.... that WE did not ask for...... so..... for the people, our loved ones around us...... please let us get right, give support, get over it.... and lets move forward in a good light.

Thank you so much for this chat! I'm working on cleaning up my room again (as we get ready for the new crew member and), getting ready to head our for our extra-long sailing season this year... And I would love to find the cord again!! (I'm hoping I find it with this clean up... or maybe that I can find another in Panama if I can't). Yeah, I specifically got one that does heart rate, because I know that I'm prone to panic attacks, and wanted to see if my heart rate was actually jumping with them. I knew the feeling, but was looking for the concrete evidence... something that I could use to gauge when things are getting better... or worse. But I also want to use it to challenge myself to keep moving. ...Just need that stupid cord! :)

Why bring your mental health issues into the sailing adventure? Healthy people practice compartmentalization for good reasons. Time and place relevance is important for focus and application. Inviting phobias to roam one's entirety of life experience is an invitation to cross contaminate otherwise problem-free areas of life, which were the former sanctuaries. There are mental health forums, where more topic-ready audiences awaits.

Well, as it’s my channel, I get to talk about whatever I feel like. I didn’t ask for your opinion, yet you felt inclined to talk about it. This comment it a reflection of you not me. I don’t have issues with “contamination” by real life, you do. Maybe you should talk with someone about it?

Maybe depression has less to do with body chemistry and more to do with beliefs.
@KrakenKissed
@KrakenKissed 7 жыл бұрын
I think it has to do with both... Because the body chemistry is definitely a contributing factor... but I think it may start as a reactionary thing, that then becomes the body's "normal"... And while trying to fight it, you have to be able to retrain both your body chemistry and your thought pattern.

So glad I have an expert to guide me. You're a licensed therapist, right? I'm not being a victim, quite the opposite. Perhaps you feel victimized and are laying it at my feet...

Sorry, You'll need to get over that one... I'm a feminist, I talk like a woman who's a feminist. It happens, and probably will for the rest of my life. If you really don't like it, I suggest you find another channel, for a better fit. I'm not going to change who I am for you, but thanks.
