@@SubdivisionAutoFriend what brought me here was definitely I'm a big American muscle car lover , and I have been in the automobile industry for 33 years and a Certified technician ,and engineer !! ,But to a bad car accident it put me in a power wheelchair, so now I service power wheelchair, but i've been working on a lot of physical therapy to regain some of my function physically which I'm very grateful for ,which give me the ability to still do some work on cars and trucks, like fixing Electronics , Carburetors, which makes me happy !! And my Helpful suggestion to you on this beautiful Chevy Nova I would clean all them body panels of course first and especially underneath the car with some type of rust inhibitor , some future rust does not start , and replace all them body subframe rubber bushings, Suspension bushings , upper and lower control arm bushings, and the rear Leaf spring bushings ,and make sure you use Good Quality U bolts on that type of rear end because they had a bad tendency Of twisting if weak , which would make the rear end of you car not track straight at all !! So be aware of that issue so you can make sure it is correct OK 💪💪💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪👍👍

71 Nova, back in 1985, bought it $100 no motor, or transmission, spent more time and money on it than any other car I ever had...I was 22 and did everything myself....ended up putting 454 and four speed in it. Sold it before I reached my vision for it. Guy I sold it to wrecked it , I had chance to but it back but passed on it. Years later met a guy who had bought it and put the motor in his 69 camaro , since I rebuilt the motor and it was still running good it was a really cool to hear it run after so many years.

Heck of a story sounds like the glory days just working on a car like that in your Youth. I also worked on a 88 Cherokee when I was younger some of the best years of my life. But man a nova at 22 would be amazing. Unreal story about your car I can't believe it was passed around so much and didn't end up being crushed... True miracle Do you think you would ever consider getting another one or trying to restore one?
@terrygilliland54057 ай бұрын
@SubdivisionAuto I was 17 yrs old in 1980 and regular nova and chevelles and pretty much any gmc made cars could be bought at decent price, had 68 pontiac tempest and 69 pontiac Lemans bought both for practically hundred bucks...the tempest already had a chevy 327 that ran really well with three speed. The Lemans had been stolen and dumped in a lake, I was with wrecker driver and police when it was pulled out of the lake, it had only been in lake for few hours...college kid prank gone bad from what I heard. The 350 motor in it ran after draining and auto trans was shot....but put in a nice 400 and four speed in it and a posi rear end out of a wrecked 442. Those were the days...local junkyard had all kinds of stuff back then and didn't charge a lot for them. In 84 I helped a 15 year old neighbor kid build his first car...a 70 nova he bought for three hundred..minus motor and trans....he bought a small block 350 and a auto trans for couple hundred bucks, air shocks and nice wheels had a nice car for under $900 stuff today you'd only dream of. Last car I messed with was a 79 5.0 mustang, didn't get into it much..exhaust and put newer five speed trans in it..that was probably twenty years ago... Things cost so much now, it would be fun though if I found the right project.

Always garage kept, original paint with all original trim and emblems still in place only minimal rust above the rear fenders. Completely re done interior with only some rips on the drivers seat. Clean engine bay with four barrel carb and duel exhaust, rebuilt trans with shift kit and brand new offset wheels and tires with 7s in front 10s in back. Extra wheels, carb new shocks in the box and some other stuff. Starts and drives flawless and sounds mean, i just came back from a canyon cruise with my girl actually. Only paid 11k and it's a front seat upholstery kit and paint job away from looking brand new inside and out.

Hi Max! Your Nova quest reminded me, of me - about 20 years ago. I had gotten off of motorcycles and became re-interested in hot rods. I knew that I wasn't able to start a project from scratch, so I started looking around for either a Chevy S10 pick-up or a 1st generation Chevy II. Either vehicle would need a V8 swap. Chevys are the most reasonable to build, - just compare hop-up parts for Chevy, Ford and Mopar. Your Chevy dollar goes a lot further. There are a lot of S10s out there, but the cabs are cramped and the 63- 65 Chevy IIs are harder to find than hen's teeth. 2nd gen Novas (65-67) have shock tower suspension and although 327s were an option, the engine compartments are tight when it comes to headers. After quite some time. I did find a couple of Novas for sale, by the same seller. I contacted him and found that he had a 74 307 a/t car and the Nova that I bought., It is a 71 car, 350 4 speed. It was rough around the edges, but it ran and I drove it home. I paid $2500 back then. I still have the car and slowly upgraded it . When I started the process, I wanted to create more of a sports car, rather than a drag racer. So, I have concentrated on suspension upgrades, (poly bushings front to rear, over size anti-sway bars, add one to the rear axle, subframe connectors, power drilled and vented front disc brakes, gas shocks) painted the car in my garage and with the help of a buddy, re-built the engine (rings, bearings, double roller timing set Comp Cams XE 268, oil pump, Edelbrock intake, carn and 5089 aluminum heads). The car is still a "work in progress", but from the time that I was in my teens (I just turned 75 last October) a hot rod was a car that someone was working in their garage, sounded good maybe smoked a bit but was wonderful to my young eyes. Never a "trailer queen", never a magazine quality car. I take my car to local car shows, cars 'n' coffee gatherings and it sees about 2000 KM of road time per year. I wouldn't have it any other way. My advice to you, don't be in any great rush to find your car, It is out there as you read this. And, for what it's worth , try to find a roller or a driver. With a young growing family, your resources can be tight and consequently progress on your car, hard to notice at times. Don't lose interest as your car gathers dust. Regards. Bruce Nixon
@SubdivisionAuto Жыл бұрын
Bruce, first of all thanks for taking the time to write this and share your story. Very cool and good advice about the Chevys for sure. So we did end up picking up this Nova but not before seeing over 60 cars before that. I can tell you this much: its been 3 months working on the car... I just finished to shut down for the holidays. No none of this video is out yet but you will see what a huge project this quickly turns into. That said it's the perfect car for us because the amount I learned was very valuable. You will see videos coming out every now and then on all the aspects we are working on. Focusing on bodywork mostly... still a lot to do. Will be taking my time on this one because I dont want to spend too much in a short period. Hoping to get some sponsors on the channel to send us some parts. But in the meantime we are doing things with finances in mind... thus far it has gone well. Thanks for your comments glad to hear you still have the driving itch at 75 !

I'm sure glad you found a Nova and look forward to the build... I see it has the bumper guards which I have been looking for, for years.......Very nicely optioned car as it must have had the 350 with multi leaf springs. Does it also have the F41 suspension package?
@SubdivisionAuto Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Build is going well we are filming the entire process. Yes lots of people have asked me about the guards trying to buy them from me so I assume they are quite rare. The bumpers were rough and I was on fence to take them or not but glad I did as we have restored them in one of the videos... Yes car well option it had a 350 as you mentioned. Not sure about the F41 how do I go about finding that out any tricks? Thank you Max
@Nova.1971 Жыл бұрын
@@SubdivisionAuto It would have front and rear sway bars and front disc brakes, It looks like it should have front discs as you have a power booster. But if it's got both sway bars it's the upgraded suspension. All 350 cars had multi leaf springs. No telling if it was a SS package as they were never called out in the vin. Willow Run never kept the built sheets in the cars and did a good job of putting them in the trash as per company procedures. The only thing I found in my Nova was the seat tags with the vin. I can't wait to see the progress on this..... You need to check out my Nova....!!!!!

First thing noticeable, and I don't know why, is the rear end being so high? These days usually sit fairly level, so is it the springs used in it? Looks like all the rubber bushings will need replacement, but that's all low cost, and you had an engine in mind anyway, so that in itself can be another project! Great find indeed, so take LOTS of 'before & after' images, as 20 -30 years down the road, you'll be glad you did! Congrats, and now you must be excited for the restoration! If a car could smile, I bet this one would be, as you'll again give it 'life' and love.

The reason the rear was so high is because they removed the shocks and propped it up with 2x4s. Actually one of them fell out on the way home and I almost lost the car (quebec roads are terrible!). Oh yeah all the rubber bushings are basically dust theyre rock hard and disintegrate when you touch them. Oh yeah we took a ton of before photos there is no lack. Thank you very much for the kind words we are really happy with it but its a HUGE project. We have a few more videos we did after this one and in less than 3 weeks a huge video comes out regarding the floor. Hope youll stick around for the ride thanks for the comment!

Buckets, tach, 4 speed with console gauges….you may have a super sport.
@michael129411 ай бұрын
I don’t see hood louvers…so if not a SS, then highly option normal one.
@SubdivisionAuto11 ай бұрын
Yeah its not an SS I looked into it it was a "custom". Which means larger fuel lines, 350 engine, 4 speed manual, buckets, center consol, disc brakes front. Still a good start for us we are removing everything ayways. New ep comes out tomorrow you will see more on it if you are intersted. Thanks for the comment!

Congratulations, you found a unicorn. I would have taken half of those you passed on, but i guess that's where we're different. Your mindset in the beginning was kinda similar to mine, i want to take something with a history, that has been forgotten and lost for many years and revive it, but to me, the important thing wouldn't have been condition, to an extent... The car i connect with is for me, there's a kind of magic about putting hands on something your passionate about and saying, I'm going to make this mine, regardless of the practicality, or monetary value in the end. A car that has been forgotten and everyone says is to far gone, that fate is sealed by opinions and money. I can only imagine driving something i brought back from the dead, something that by the world's standards was useless and held no value. Imagine the connection after that work, knowing that you, and only you was the one to save it no matter the cost. That my friend is sentiment that makes the best family air loom's. Something you pass down that has that great resurrection story and you're work in every part. When you went from, it needs a story and i need to connect to it, to . At this point, were just looking for the best buy. You lost touch with me as a viewer. Again congrats, I'm sure this will make many memories and hopefully stay part of the family for a long time. I'll follow along for this build but i wish it was more meaningful. ✌️

Well said Snake. You are right I had to tip the scales of story more than I originally set out to but it was more due to attempting to remain realistic in what I can actually do. Yes I sacrificed some story but I'll be hones I feel good with what we got. And now tearing into it I can tell you a couple thing (that are in the next video). Based on the water damage this car would be in the same shape as the others had it sat another 5 years. I am happy to continue the story where the owner started even if it doesnt have much of one. But that said knowing Im the first in line after nearly 5 decades is an honour in itself. So yes we are going all in in this one one, but you are right some of the other cars certainly had some stories. Trust me when I say I still think of those cars and after doing some work on this one I believe they can and really should all be saved. The green one in the forest on part 3 in the snow is 20 mins from my house and I often think of it a lot. I like your mindset and I like the comment 100% agree with you. Itll be meaningful to me because my family is involved and having my kids travel with me that far to get it was pretty special. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Looks like a great project. Congratulations, the cars you were looking at and intentionally looking for old paddock bodies was TOTALLY wrong for a budget build beginner. Have fun

Yeah trial by fire I say I learned a lot from all this, the original idea of finding a field find nobody wants to restore and save it is unrealistic for a guy like me. I know that now. Despite that even this car is a lot more work than expected and a big challenge for a guy like myself. So this is the perfect car for us. Thanks for the kind words and commenting on the video it was worth the wait

LS with a 5 speed tremec tkx or t56 magnum 6 speed, keep the 8.5 rear for now until I get a 12
@strokersteve468 Жыл бұрын
@SubdivisionAuto Cool, that 8.5 can be built to handle a surprising amount of torque and abuse. I put an Auburn unit in mine under recommendation. Works awesome.

Hey I know someone that is looking for a nova. Do you have one for sale?
@SubdivisionAuto Жыл бұрын
Nope just have the one we bought here... but if you have facebook there are a couple big Nova groups and it shouldnt be too hard to find one on there (depending on the shape you are looking for). Nova Nation and 68-74 Nova are the best groups for that.... thanks for watching hope you enjoyed the video. What do you think of this white Nova was it worth the wait?

The montage? Shipwrecked- at the end of times". One of my favorite songs of all time. The show theme is created by a friend of mine he made it for the show

You know that could very well be possibly be an SS cuz of the gauges in the center console and the three petals it could be an SS
@SubdivisionAuto Жыл бұрын
I thought it was too but based on the fact it didnt have a 12 bolt I thought maybe not. So I got it checked and no it is not an SS... but it has most features an SS would minus the 12 bolt....Thanks for watching next video is coming out friday when we start breaking this thing down.
