Working on classic cars can be expensive and doing this for the first time has taught me 5 crucial tips that literal saved me thousands of dollars! Follow these steps and save yourself a lot of money like we did. Our 1972 Chevy Nova has turned out to be a much larger project than we expected but by asking the right questions and doing our research we were able to fix ways to save money. I am enjoying watching you build your dream car. You may already know this, but some of your viewers may not. When welding with flux core wire ( gas less) make sure your polarity is correct on your machine and that you are using the proper size feed wheel for your wire size and flux core wire requires a special wheel that won’t crush your wire. Yeah I don't know man we seemed to have a really big following when found the car but as soon as I started to work on it we lost the majority of them. Not exactly sure and at the same time being new to this it doesn't surprise me. But I said I'll do it and keeping going filming almost everyday. Great tips thanks man still using flux core but it's been going really well. Thanks for the great message happy to hear some people are watching. Also cranking the amount of these up going to have another one out in 3 weeks.

Good find on the Napa parts. Spoiled being in the states that we have quick access to parts and tools with no crazy add-on costs for the most part. Keep up the good work. Hardest part of restoration work can be time management and dedication sometimes.

Yeah not sure how it is in the states exactly but here in Canada parts are very expensive. Time management indeed, thats what I struggle with due to the lack of experiance. Trying to find ways to be more efficent and share the lessons. Lots of hard lessons being learned first hand here let me tell you... Lots of episodes to come filming everyday. Cheers! Max

I did some work on a 68 Nova about a year and a half ago. I've always loved that body style. Also check out feed grade molasses for rust removal. My son-in-law used it on a bunch of 32 Ford parts. Works wonders too. Looking forward to following your build.

Hard work. You’re getting there. Keep up the great work. Same issue I had when I started welding. Cheap welder = junk welds. Bought a gd welder and the welds are gold.

Indeed, the new welder made a huge difference. Also adding a 10lb spool instead of the 2lb really helped a lot. Sounds like you got your welds figured out im getting closer everyday thanks for watching. Hope you stick around for the next episode (roof) its something else...

Good job, man. If you have more welding questions, let me know. Idk where your at in the project today. For the wire feed not being strong enough, I'd check the roles to make sure there are plenty tight. Check the spools Tension. You don't want the Tensioner too tight. You just don't want your whire to not unravel on you. That's the purpose of the tensioner. Looks like the new one is working well. Probably don't paint before welding. Weld it hot it will burn the paint if it's thin enough. What's the purpose of the name you given your self. Is it like making it fun for the Viewer. Noticed several strategies you're using But one being the safety equipment is that so the brand is clean enough for potential sponsors? Like the branding loos like you put time in it. I'm going to Use the vinegar trick i didn't really think of that. But I did know of it. Basically, you're using a lower level of acid to break down the corrosion. I'll have to try that on our tools are shop burned down, no insurance. Check it out. Lol, follow the process,

Yeah good points I had my tensioer too tight even with the new one made for some issues. Still trying to figure out how to set the proper tension and spool tension (The nut on this unit came as a regular and it help twisting after a while, changed it for a lock nut nows its not moving but hard to know how tight to put it). But yes new welder with the 10lb spool works a LOT better. Yeah painting before welding is pointless unless its a hidden area. The name? Its a nick name, its youtube afterall gotta have a nick name. Safety I never used much in the past but I really amped it up now that im doing this everyday. Had a few close calls and lessons. I have no sponsors at the moment I just use what I have. On your old welder ...it probably needs cleaned ...pull out your liner and degrease it...wire has an oil film on it ...after 5yrs .. also make sure your wire grove is same size as wire ....030 ...035 ....just clean it and make sure you do maintenance on it ...if it welded before it will work again ...good luck with nova ...I always liked them ....

No kidding that's good advice I didn't know that. I got rid of it got a new one but I use it so much that it will need to be cleaned eventually. Already burned through a out 12lbs of spools. Thanks for the advice

Apple Cider Vinegar works fine (but is a little expensive). I use citric acid (I buy it at my local bulk food store) it comes as a powder, and you mix it with water. I did my coil springs and even mixed up enough to completely submerge my heater box. It also works faster than vinegar. You know how they used to say that you could remove rust from chrome, with Coca-Cola and 0000 steel wool... it's the citric acid in the Coke, that does the work. 😉😉😉

@SubdivisionAuto You can play around a bit with it, but I kinda run about 2 cups to a 5 gallon pail... I don't think you can overdo it. 🤣🤣🤣 I also do small amounts in yogurt container (650g) for doing small parts, bolts and screws and such. My Nova spent most of its life in Vancouver, B.C. (The Wet Coast)... Every single thing, had a layer of rust (some of it is literally very light surface) but everything is/was rusty... Mainly, a Victim of Extreme Humidity... But we're getting there...

you gotta clean the tube the wire feeds through on your welder they get dirty inside

I use a cheap brush ,green scrub pad and sopho that's it ,keep the area wet with Ospho and keep rubbing until your satisfied with result ,I have taken large panels and totally cleaned them rust free perfect metal ,just remember never leave it on the metal, always wash it off and quickly dry
