I used to snowbird in St.Pete and have seen MANY a hurricane but this is unbelievable. Thank God I usually live in a hotel several stories up but if I couldn't get out 😢 Prayers for all these ppl!

Treasure Island is "outside of Tampa" because it is a barrier island to ST PETERSBURG, which is west across Tampa Bay on the Gulf coast. That causeway at the beginning leads to St. Pete, not to Tampa. Tampa is an hour away from there.

It's called flooding insurance, this is not water damage as an insurance company would consider water damages superficial. This is part of property insurance, so you need to add on flooding insurance cause it's never included.

I spent a few decades in Tampa Bay. In some cases, it didn't even take a hurricane to flood my mother's house in Tarpon Springs...just a few days of rain. This State is a ticking time bomb of hurricanes and the aquifers that have made the land Swiss cheese, causing sinkholes.

With all of the Hurricanes in that area why are Our Elected Officals selling that land on Barrier Islands? I remember a ferry to shell island back in the early 70s! Barrier islands are meant to take All of the water from Hurricanes and swamps are Also! Thank God, That most of those Folks got out OK! That they are Alive!

It's becoming unaffordable. That's why my mom sold her house there. When she bought the house in 1982, flood insurance cost about $400 a year. By the time she sold her house 10 years ago, flood insurance was costing her $4,000 a year.

It actually flooded in places it has never flooded. You should expect flooding all along that island area but it flooded way farther inland.

Where do you live? I live in beautiful North Alabama, we have tornadoes but we also know that we have the 2nd worst fault line. We also have rivers that can flood. Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas are toward the middle but have tornadoes. Up north there are Blizzards, tornadoes and floods. Where do you think has the best shot?
