Hello Steve, I enjoy watching your content. Unfortunately I had to be recovered last month, (loan DAF 510 and 2 x 20ft containers on a splitter trailer). But having watched your videos I was aware of making the recovery process safer by limping from a hard shoulder to a slip road to provide as safe a recovery location as possible (M18 SB to A1 junction) Very helpful and reassuring recovery driver who said he also watches your channel. We then drove back to Leeds and the loan DAF was handed back.

Your experience really shows when you know all the ins and outs of a particular truck. Knowing socket sizes, techniques needed to air it up, how to configure for towing, and everything else, makes for an efficient, safe, professional job. Very interesting to see you hauling such a long load through those tight streets. Great driving skills. Close call with that seagull !

Mad respect to you for what you do, nice to see someone who knows how to drive properly. I've thought about finding my way into recovery work when I get tired of driving a bus around in circles, been wanting to get my truck licence for a while but need to find the time and money to do it. A couple of mates who used to do cars and vans said recovery was never the easiest job, having your head on the road whilst traffic flies past at 60mph isn't everyone's cup of tea, but apparently it's quite fulfilling, you feel like you've achieved something and helped people out at the end of the day. Suppose that's what I want, really. That and a bit of variety. Where I am it's a choice between a big town with varied routes but rubbish passengers, or a small town with nice people but boring routes.

You towies are a breed of your own mate. Knowing more than many mechanics and managing to haul massive rigs on even the tightest roads. And without allways getting enough rest at that. I remember when I was working at the buss depo in my old hometown and a Scania boggie buss had just been towed into the workshop. Talked to the driver and said "You look a bit tired." (This was around 10pm) and he said "That's what happens when you haven't slept in 23 hours" It could just be that region but there is always a shortage of towies here and it's so bad that the cops look between the fingers at their work hours. But still they do the job in a professional and safe manner.

Hey Steve, Great vid as always, and bet the driver of that MAN unit was a bit flustered at breaking down on a loading bay at supermarket 😂, How did you make the wireless trailer board, did you have to put any steel plates on the board for the lights to stay and not fall off ?? Also where did you get your reusable tags that you use to hook the airlines to the unit without using the cable ties as they look extremely useful

Another brilliant video Steve. Quick question why do you use the second red line to a trailer if your main line is feeding the tractor?
@peewee3ie
@peewee3ie Жыл бұрын
From what I have read and know from a friend the blue line Steve connect to the tractor is a continuous feed of air to get the parking break off and the red line is the parking break for the trailer. the yellow line is the breaks. Doing this way you would have control over both parking break and breaks on the trailer

When towing heavy vehicles, does the load need to be removed before the towing can start since imagine needing the power to tow a 44t vehicle? I also cannot tell if 44t in the title means gross weight or its weight at the time it broke down.

Hi Annabel thanks very much for watching , 44t is the total weight the unit and trailer with load can operate in the UK on 6 axles. We recover these fully loaded quite often so your looking of a total combined weight of 64t with the recovery truck.
