Hi Elise, I know it’s an old video, but I just wanted to let you know that what ruin your first batch was the electric whisker, I’m not sure if it’s with all surfactants but SLES doesn’t like electric whisks nor immersion blenders, not even salt fix that, also when adding salt if you use too much it will water down the formula instead of thicken it, I’d found it sweet spot is between 2% - 3%, another tip, is that SLES can be thicken up with cocamidopropyl betaine if salt fails, I hope this helps

Thank you Elise, that was so very instructional and informative, a huge thumbs up for dedicating your time to experimenting, certainly after my own heart there. One thing I have learned re thickening which as we know is an absolute nightmare even using gums which sometimes look very successful in the beginning but after time can settle on the bottom in a gloop. Adding the C Betaine as the last ingredient actually does thicken the product, why I don't know but it certainly makes a difference. Thank you again.

Fun fact that I learned wasting a lot of product: sulfates should be combined as one phase (phase A), glycerin water and others in another phase (phase B) and essential oils (phase c), then adjust the pH and then add the salt, it should be between 0.5 -1% if you use more the product will be liquid no matter how much salt you use. It is important that the pH is adjusted so that the salt also works. Hope it works for someone.

Great video! subscribed! Glad you didn't give up and showed us your first formulations! Its looks like so much fun trying to make Aesop Hand wash. I managed to make the body exfoliator, took me lots of attempts but I didn't give up and now have the product in my bathroom. I do have all the raw materials for it and I might give the hand wash a go too, thanks for sharing your ideas and alternatives. Also Iselux (SLMI) is a wonderful anionic surfactant if you can get it. Nice production on camera/sound and editing looks fantastic. I'm in Australia and we have Aesop stores here so we can try out all the products, they are really lovely, the scent however is really difficult to copy. I have tried the geranium fragrance but it's just not the same. Look forward to seeing more of your creations!

Hello, I love your videos! They’re very informational and easy to follow. Recently I have been looking around for a nontoxic hand soap and even the clean brands that are rated 100 on the Yuka app have shady ingredients. I was wondering if you would consider creating a video on how to make a simple hand soap. Thing are really starting to feel helpless, so you’d truly be a lifesaver.

Hi, great video! I am glad I have been looking for how to make hair gel it brought me to your channel.! Have you study chemistry to be a chemist? All of your videos are amazing in the formulas of ingredients to mix in making hair and skin products! Wonderful to make something yourself by just trying and it comes out very well. Your W logo looks like Walgreens. Lol! I just had notice right away. Very professional presentation and narration of DIY. I don't like Sodium Laurel Sulfate which is a foaming agent that is used in commercial hair shampoos, body washes, tooth paste and dish washing liquid. I have issues with SLS that of drying the skin and allergies. I have to avoid it at all cost. What is the name of the essential oils you use?

This recipe looked good, but then I went to the website and saw the formula. SLS has an active matter of 95%, so in this case, there is 36% active matter from the SLS alone! Hand washes shouldn't have more than 15% active matter in total. This is more than twice as strong as it should be. Is there anything I didn't understand in this recipe?
