Since the rig is basically stationary, you could have just used counterbalance weights with ropes and pullies...but that wouldn't be as cool.

If you want to cut aluminum with an angle grinder, there are special pastes for that. It works like a lubricant and you cut it much faster

The problem is more that Aluminum is too soft. Softer than the hardest hardwoods. It actually cuts really nicely with a wood blade on a miter saw.

A great build. Loved the video and laughed so hard at You half deaf yelling at Your GF to up the throttle! You did spend a lot of time on things that are easy to look up, as there's plenty of research on these since the 50's (as always, research > experimentation, but it's not always more entertaining). A) Ducted props with steel mesh on the underside of the duct. Ducts can easily be printed in segments and pulled together with a hose clamp large enough. This would give more downward thrust from same size of prop and motor. B) There's so far no way to control it or stabilise it other than the two steel cables. Control surfaces under the ducts and a gyro to control them would allow You to get some proper air! While You'd still be tethered for power, it would be awesome to see this work out in an open field.

1) your RC interference is PROBABLY from being too close actually. 2) Maybe Consider using a simple servo tester for your throttle? it just gives you a potentiometer to be able to control as you are onboard.

I'm only half way through your video and I have a few ideas. 10 mill heavy clear vinyl instead of plexiglass would work well, it is flexible enough to stop a blade without shattering. It could be tented above your head, hung from a single rod and, like a bullet point, drape over your shoulders over a second pair of bars, this would deflect air from hitting your head an shoulders and cause less downward drag. Bending the ends of your props downward 15 degrees would increase their efficiency just as a duct would as it would direct air more straight down and less out in a spiraling cone.
@Vousie2 ай бұрын
Bending the ends of the props? Pretty sure these are carbon fiber props. You bend them, they snap, and you end up with carbon fiber shards in your fingers (and/or eyes...)
@TheWadetube2 ай бұрын
@@Vousie Yes, but if you heat them sufficiently you can bend them, set them in a jig and they will retain that bend. The point is, if you can make your own props you can make better, more efficient props than what is offered off the shelf. There is a company who makes bent props and I have seen them on a vertical lift plane.
@Vousie2 ай бұрын
@@TheWadetube Pretty sure these companies already do a lot of research on efficiency, and making custom carbon fibre props is a very difficult thing, especially ones this big. Have you actually tried making your own? And done comparison testing? If not then I don't think you can make these kinds of claims. And a quick Google search tells me that heating CF is a bad idea...

Im thinking myself of this kind of floating device. Can give you some ideas that i thought about. !.st, safety, so add cage around, like on room fans, it can be light weight so as soon as blade touches it will stuck. 2. Make base for motors not rectangle, instead single rod connected to back of engine, And make Y connection, in 30degree angle. Rotating should be easier. And Caron ofc, you can buy cheap from Chaina friends. I was thinking the down part should touch ground, and best if you could stand on it, but as backapck it sounds better.
