When I saw you switch to ballpoint pen for lineart I wanted to stop you! I've had the exact same problems with the smudging ;-; Nevertheless it turned out sooo good! I'm glad you're also showing those parts of the process for people to learn from!

I recommend a microns for the lineart. I’ve used microns with watercolor and they didn’t smudge at all! Never used them with alcohol based pens, tho 😬

I love traditional! Traditional art feels so real (like it feels like real art), it makes me connected to nature because everything is made with real colors from nature. Digital is so difficult for me to use, i dont get why people like it

This is really cool! I love this idea. I REALLY miss doing traditional art but I feel like I never have the time or energy to do all the work needed, BUT re-creating my own digital drawings will make it a lot easier, but I can still have the fun of doing traditional. ALSO I will say I don't miss the frustration of ink bleeding when using alcohol based markers but I think you did a pretty good job fixing that up in the end! This was fun to watch and the drawing turned out great :)

The illustration came out really good ! And also you can create new colors if you layer the preexisting ones you have ! Like for example that hat in the digital version is a more of a greyish blue so with the existing dark blue you can layer a grey and layer them until you get that color

Little art tip: Certain inks from fine line pens will not work well with alcohol markers There are certain pens designed specifically to withstand certain mediums. The alcohol in the markers will break down the pigment of the ink of a pen, but some pens are made to take on alcohol markers. Copic, micron, and I think pentel are a few examples of pens that work with these markers

I don't usually use markers for colouring in, as i find that it makes the picture look too heavy, and i find them challenging to use.

If anyone’s looking for non smudgy fine liners, try KingArt. They work for marker and watercolor, and are less expense than Microns. 🙂

My favorite pen to line with is the uniball signs, its waterproof and smudgeproof. I tried unipins but im used to drawing at at angle do my felt tips end uo bending or dying quickly .-.

The reason why the face was smudging is because the Stabilo fineliner isn't waterproof. The Copic Fineliner is waterproof when dry, so that explains why that didn't smear. In case of doubt: line art as the last step. 😋 I like the drawing!

Make sure your ink is dry (and not alcohol soluble). I’ve made this mistake too many times, the best lessons are learned through mishaps. She came out incredibly cute nonetheless!!⭐️🖤⭐️🖤

I actually find traditional art more fun than digital art. Not be I don't like digital art, its really fun, but when I draw on paper i feel like I have more control over what I'm drawing. And I mostly just do pencil, so I don't smudge it that much. No hate or anything.

Those Stabilos aren't really alcohol proof, so definitely not the markers fault ^^' I got the best experiences with india ink markers, like Sakura Microns, Copic Multiliners or Faber - Castell Pitt Artist Markers (which is I use mostly) :) Some discount markets like Action (which e.g. can be found in the Benelux states and Germany) carry unbranded Artist fineliners which work surprisingly well, too, at least if you give your linework some time to dry completely :3

Hello Erika. I was just thinking about getting online courses on Draw21 and your course “Digital drawing in procreate” was the one that made me thinking abou buying the courses because I loved the illustrations shown in the preview of your course. Waterbased fineliners are better for outlining alcohol marker illustrations and alcoholbased fineliners are better for outlining water based illustrations because they won't activate the color for each other and smear. I learned this through trial and error :/ it was messy to start with and the supposed outlining pens for alcohol markers still smeared for me

And traditional has some advantages that digital doesn't have. They both require different skill sets. This kinda cancels each other out.
