I just bought a flat screen TV home from garbage that had a broken screen didn't realize it was an LED TV wanted to take it apart for the heat sinks inside like another one that I want to use for a project. Instead, I found all these LED's 7 in a row. Like you have their 10 rows, 70 LED's now I've learned how to power them up, and there was no large heat sinks in this TV.

OMG, you're GENIUS!! I picked up a giant 72" screen dumped on the street, and want to light it up. Now all I need is just a power supply!

from lop top power supply you can make the strip light up. ( 16 vdc ) or 32 vdc for all strip with 1.5 amp. work fine i use one under my microwave and work fine.if you use just 1/2 strip use a jumper and the end.

I came across a broken TV in an alley that I took apart on the spot just to see what was inside and it had these kind. I didn’t keep them in a strip through and cut them into pieces with the +&- still showing. Since then I have taken apart a 65” TV, a 24” computer flat screen, and a laptop monitor and those 3 had LED strips but they were all surface mounted flat LEDs about 1/4” apart from eachother and not spaced out in a little clear bubble. And I kept them in a strip. They are incredibly bright. Infact they are bright enough to blind me temporarily. I’ve only lit them up with 2 AA batteries since I think most white LEDs are 3v.

Very interesting there! Currently troubleshooting my first given-to-me-free-TV. A Samsung UN48J5000. After disassembly, I found a badly-burned spot between two LEDs that would arc, causing the PS to cycle on & off. I attempted a repair by scraping off the white coating and soldering a wire across the burned-out area. Sort of worked. Kept arcing. Burned out the single LED to the right of the burned area. LED ~ 1.4mm/side. Way too tiny to 'replace'. So I figured I'd just cut the end of the strip off with the burned area + dead LED, scrap off the white coating and complete the series ckt with solder. The rest of the LED's all light. Maybe then the PS would stabilize and stay on. PSB is L48MSF_FDY BN44-00852A. LED light strips are 2015 SVS48 FCOM FHD DOE A RIGHT REV1.2 150605 LM41-00120Q_LM4100149A.

LEDS always a subject of interest, just made my own 12 volt strip light on discarded keyboard sensor contact PCB skeleton base - used online led array designer wizard tool - ended up with 24 blue LEDs 12 x 220 ohmn resistors , each 3 mm blue led running about 3.5 volts 23 mili amps.

perhaps there will be heat problems, the backside is glued to a metal surface in the TV so they are probably specced to not be stuck to a heatsink. I have a 94v strip, each led has 3 LEDs in it... it's something like 28 LEDs per strip. 28*3.5 is about 94v perhaps that's the way it's wired.

Use a small computer fan it will keep them from overheating.,😎
@terminsane Жыл бұрын
LEDs are supposed to be current driven, not voltage driven. As their temperature increases, they will consume more amps. The more amps they use the hotter they get. You need to feed it a constant current source.

Nice illustration. I happen to have the old/original set of led lights from my Samsung 55" TV. Some are blown but a majority are good. Since I am in the process of building an "airbrush painting booth" (64qt bin), I want to add these leds along the top. I will have to review your video, so as to pin point where you scratched the paint off and where to solder wires. I'd like to know if that black box was a laptop power supply? You said 12v..? I kinda thought these leds needed about 27v to light up. Do you have a way to hook my idea up?
@bruceclothier8238 Жыл бұрын
I did this years ago. You can cut a strip 2cm wide for each LED. There are seven LEDs in those strips so you cant split them in two!!
@ssennonojohnmary44064 ай бұрын
As LEDs are connected in series, if you abandon one or two coz they are faulty with out replacing them, don't you think that there is an increase in supply voltage of LEDs remaining on the strip ,compared to their rated voltage, hence affecting their performance?
@12voltvids4 ай бұрын
Not at all. The power supply is current regulated not voltage. It adjusts the voltage dynamically depending on the series load. Remove 1 or 2 and the voltage drops. I have seen panels with 20 shorted led and they rest are still running. Remember led fail in 2 ways. They short or go open. When they short you get a slight dimming of the panel at that area. The one I did a full backlight replace on last year had a bunch shorted when one went open and took the panel out.

Do they still run as bright as they would have on a 24v feed? If so, I don’t get why they’d set these up with 24v instead of running a 12v up the middle or just manufacturing the strips in half sections.. but if NOT, then I get why they’d use 24v... I’m just asking because I have tons of these and tons of the screen films just waiting for DIY projects but the bulb strips always scared me ever since I tried to just leave them in place and plug the TV’s wire right in.... I got a spark and magic smoke 💨 which confuses me because other videos and people I’ve read in blogs do this with no issue... so I’m trying to learn and understand. Thanks
@12voltvids4 жыл бұрын
They run 24 / 48 / 96 volts per strip because the higher the voltage the lower the current and the smaller wires they can use to feed them.
@rayoperator26993 жыл бұрын
1 adapter for 3 led lights seems overkill. You’ll need a whole lot of adapters, or am i getting it wrong ? You use 1 adapter for all ?
@12voltvids3 жыл бұрын
1 adapter for all the strips. 12 volts drives 3 led in series nicely. I have 6 per strip running 3 + 3 in parallel, and 3 strips. They load down a 2 amp supply nicely.
@joshcouture32443 жыл бұрын
@@12voltvids Whoa, ok so to understand correctly, all of the strips of LEDs you show in the video, if you wired them in series as you instructed, all of the strips of LED can be powered by a single 12V 2amp PS? (of course minus the LEDs in the middle that you intentional disabled out of the series.

Thanks, I picked up a bag of cutoff's from a second hand electronics seller. Never did figure out how to make them work properly, I have some groups of 2 that I got running off my 5V power supply, they light the bottom of my computer desk well enough that I can find little things that fall there, I don't use it for keyboard or anything, just crap in my makeshift desk that sits beside my power recliner, which supports me daily as the narcotics relieve the pain that has been with me since the accident in '92 that retired me from the PD and made workers comp the almighty god above me, who watches me with evil intent, trying to get out from under their responsibility of keeping me kicking till my body gives up the ghost and they can stop paying me. They already declared me retired a few years ago and cut my payments in half, that hurt like hell and left me and the wife arguing after each payday weather we should by ground pork and an extra loaf of bread, or hamburger and rely on the State to give us a few potatoes when they come to town.

Many of those modern laptop chargers actually communicate over the power cord to the laptop to see if it is the correct make / model and if not they will not charge or put out any voltage. My HP work computer will not charge on my DELL adapter even thought they are both rated the same, nor will my Dell laptop charge on my work computer power supply. For that matter it also will not charge the battery from my old Dell power supply, but that one will run the newer dell, just not charge the battery unless the computer is totally powered down and then the adapter connected. In that case it will charge, but as soon as the laptop is booted a message comes up on t he screen saying that the adapter is not the correct model and will not charge the battery. Both are 19V 4A chargers, but the older one doesn't have the chip that communicates with the laptop. Sony was good at pulling that crap with their camcorder batteries so if you bought a new camcorder the old batteries would not work with it.
