This is another mission, that suffers from a lack of establishing rules. As a flipped mission; it's comparing to the Allied mission; which gave you about 30 minutes to destroy the 3 Silos, but you have the Chronosphere, so you can just beam units in, and blow them up with Prism Tanks. Easy. Usually, it's smart to show the player how things work in the mission; and then gradually increase the difficulty over time, to show the challenge factor of the mission. You already know how the allied units operate, so this mission should be establishing the danger that the Chronosphere offers; since it can transport units directly into your base. The problem is; the mission instantly dumps 2 squads of tanks into your base; who go to town on you while you're also getting bombarded by navy units; and trying to figure out what the hell you even have to use to try to make a response effort. And by the time you do that; a Prism tank has already sniped one of the Missile Silos, and "MISSION FAILED" because they can nuke the building in 3-4 lasers, and you're dealing with like 5 of them right off the bat. This is NOT a balanced experience right off the get go. In the current version; you essentially have no choice but to take failures, to learn where the allied onslaught will be coming from, because there is no valid way you can be expected to react blindly to the insane onslaught of shit you have coming at you the minute the mission starts. Half your base gets blown up before you even get control ffs. How to fix this? Have the mission begin with a countdown timer; that ticks down, giving you time to prepare some units and buildings for the necessary defense; and THEN have the onslaught of hell begin. The way the current mission is set up; you don't feel like you have a fair chance to protect your base; it feels like you're going through hell and expected to fight off demons with a piece of tinfoil. With a bit of time to setup some defenses, it makes the battle feel fair and rewarding to succeed in; and tests your unit knowledge of the Allies vs Soviets.

Honestly these "flipped" missions are boring af. The formula: complete some basic simple shit -> get an endless fucking armada thrown at you -> die a dozen of times learning the attack pattern until you establish decent defenses -> get an opportunity to complete the main objective sucks a fat fucking ass. The developer of these missions lacks understanding what a good mission is so he got nothing better to make than this. I'd rate them 5/10

@@TheWatchernator Thanks, but I don't need to make my own mod to point out the flaws of another one; that's like saying a film critic can't critique films unless they themselves have made a movie. The point isn't "I can make this better then you" the point is "this is flawed in execution, here is some points about how it could be improved in a way that's fair and still interesting for the player." The point of criticism is to offer some ideas on what can improve the current problem. The Mission structure is good: The Allies are going to use the Chronosphere in an effort to stop you from getting your Nukes off. This alone is good: The problem is, the mission starts, and instantly you're dealing with navy, like 3-4 squads of tanks, Seals, Rocketeers, and you have 0 time to even process what units you have to stop this; it ends up falling into trial and error; which is not what most players enjoy. All of this could be fixed; if the mission was given a timer at the beginning, to give you a few minutes to setup for the onslaught. After that, hell breaking loose is fine, because you have a few minutes to prepare for it.

@@tier_- I wouldn't say they are boring; they just have a lack of polish in certain areas. Some of the ideas and ways they chose to adjust it were interesting. The issue is a good chunk of the missions give you no time to react, and like to throw everything at you almost right away, so you only get like 10 seconds to think, before you get bombarded. Like I said, most of the missions feel like a trial and error tightrope, until you find the one method the creator clearly had in mind for you to do when he made the mod. The problem is, this isn't fun, and makes missions very dull, since everyone is going to complete them the same way. Then there are just missions where your victory basically hinges on luck, like this one, and Soviet Mission 5. They were clearly not given the fine tuning they needed to be fair for the player to experience, given the ability to fail the mission within' 15 seconds of starting if you don't immediately react.

@@Kohchu You have a valid point, but what's your thoughts on Mental Omega then?
@Kohchu3 жыл бұрын
@@nizzystorm7067 Mental Omega has a lot more polish to it's design. And it does lead you into the missions very well. When you fail in Mental Omega, you can kinda understand what you did wrong, and what was requested of you. Plus, it does a good job of teaching you mechanics, as you go; to help you know your limitations, and what the game expects you to do. However; Mental Omega was clearly only tested for players who played RA2 on Hard Mode, because the game is horribly unforgiving for players who are not really freaking good at more intensive RTS games like Starcraft. There are some missions that are very rough, and difficult to beat. But overall, it's something you can improve at, as it feels like it's your fault when you screw up (Mental Omega reveals points of interests, and warns you of potential danger on missions where you are controlling a handful of key units. So you know what to avoid and find an alternate path). And those missions have had several players playtest them, so it's clear that they balanced the missions around the feedback players gave them, so they are considerably more polished and not 'here's 5 things happening all at once, have fun trying to figure out what to do in 15 seconds or the mission is failed!" It's a lot of fun, once you figure out how all the units and the buildings work, and there's no denying that it's a much more polished experience overall; but I do feel that at times, it can get a little overwhelming, especially to new players... every faction has a ton of new units, and while some just balance things out (like giving Epsilon an anti-air infantry). But, I stopped playing Mental Omega when they threw in a new faction; the 3 were already decently rounded, and had units decently balanced. The new faction felt unnecessary, and didn't fit in imo. But, it's clear that Mental Omega wasn't built for people that aren't already really good at RA2. As evidenced by even the Easy AI in Mental Omega being comparable to the Brutal AI in normal RA2.

for so many times i replayed this mission, i still remember what i must do in the span of 2-5 mins. i change my speed to medium to have time. 1. all tanks go to right beach (never give them time to unload) and build a few more tanks and flak 2. all subs go to left (never give them time to unload) and build a few more scorpions. 3. sell off the left nuclear reactor and defenses 4. build battle lab and another nuclear reactor near the power plants 5. build 2 bunkers where the teleported tanks in the base 6. build 1 bunker at the top of the ore refinery 7. build 3 tesla towers at right side of the nukes and get 3 tesla troopers to power them 8. another 3 tesla towers at the left side. 9. and irradiate the whole map with lots of desos. then target their superweapon with 3 nukes.

@@rustyshackleford1011 I had the same thought when I played this mission for the first time. The early game is definitely the most brutal because they'll keep spamming a squad of grizzlies, prism & mirage tanks at you but if you managed to hold off the enemy waves and learn their attack pattern then this mission is actually pretty easy.
