Red Army Official Trailer (2014) - Hockey Documentary HD
Following the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War, RED ARMY tells the story of the nation's famed Red Army hockey team through the eyes of its captain Slava Fetisov. Whether he was pitted against enemies in the political arena or on the ice, Fetisov's story provides a rare glimpse behind the Iron Curtain of the 1970s and '80s by mirroring the social and political forces at work in the world around him. While helping pave the way for his nation to cross over into the next century, this one man demonstrated how sports could not only be an avenue for creative expression in a world determined to suppress it, but also be something so inextricably intertwined with a nation's cultural and political identity.

Capitalist propaganda? The Soviet system produced some of the best hockey players, lines and teams that we have ever seen. But what is the cost? Krutov died in his early 50's from "internal bleeding". Was this really esophageal varices from liver cirrhosis, a complication of alcohollism? I have no idea. I would bet you that Vladi Krutov was a nice guy. Valeri Kharlmalov died in a car accident after being cut from the national team in 1981. What was the real story behind this? There is too much us vs. you, we vs. them, capitalism vs. communism. Tarasov's enthusiasm for hockey was just as great as Herb Brooks. As different as the systems they came from, I bet they could have sit across from each other at a table and admire and respect how much they were alike, how great their love for hockey was. That is what sportsmanship was about......pushing your opponent to be the best they could be, whether your opponent was from a communist or capitalist system. . I don't want to hear this fecal material about how great we are or how bad you were. I would rather hear about how great was their desire to win that so inspired me to want to push myself to my absolute limit to kick their butt and in the end say "wow, it is amazing that this person from the other side of the world, from a totally different system, totally different government loves this game just like me and therefore is so much like me to the point that he seems like a brother".

frankly russian hockey is still the best, KHL is still better then NHL, Why? because gary bettman knows this thats why there are no hockey games between NHL and KHL after Carolina Hurricanes lost to St Petersburg. Bettmen knows that there are good possibility that a Loss is still possible. KHL also have many great hockey players too that NHL never gave players a chance but has developed into great players, Alexey Morozov for example he used to play for pittsburg penguins and even broduer quoted about him, he was the player that even the great broduer had trouble with. There is also like Zaripov, played an season in the canadian junior league and doing really great at that level again NHL didnt take the chance now he has a gagarin cup, and has developed into a great player. There are many players that has potentials that NHL has let slipped through the cracks no point listing them all cause list is huge.

"The KHL is still better than the NHL. Why? Because Gary Bettman knows this." Well that's some rock-solid logic you've got there, "John Smith." For someone with such an incredibly standard American name I find it odd that English is clearly your second language. How's Moscow this time of year? But look, I'm not going to bag on the Russians. They've given the hockey world a tremendous amount...it'd be crazy to think how uninteresting the past 50 years of global hockey would be without them. But you are out of your goddamn mind if you honestly believe the KHL is even close to the level of the NHL. There's a good reason players consider finishing their twilight years in the KHL, and not the other way around. When an NHL player flames out, the first place he looks to is Russia. And I'm not even going to get into the current financial minefield staring down the K, but - needless to say - the NHL players don't have to worry about whether they're going to get a check on time. Kids grow up dreaming of winning the Stanley Cup, not a Gagarin Cup. And that's never going to change. Bobrovsky, Tarasenko, Varlamov, Ovechkin, Malkin, Datsuk...I mean, come on. It's no coincidence the absolute best Russian players took their talents to North America.

+John Smith Pff,what a nonsense. Yes,KHL is solid league, probably second behind NHL,with a lot of young, talented and also not so young, but still god players. But NHL is clearly by a mile better in most of the aspects. ANd if yu think that i don't know what i'm talking about,we have a KHL team over here "Dinamo Riga" But yeah,i agree that there are many good players who didn't make it in NHL for some reason...

Those players weren't good enough to play in the NHL. They developed in to great khl players because the league is full of NHL cast offs. You're a fucking idiot.
