There weren't any roads in the area at the time, so doctors and nurses had to be brought to the site. 24 people passed away, most on way to a hospital, with 136 injured of the 200 passengers. 10 days after the horrtfic crash, a Pullman car came unbuckled, rolled down the hill toward the turn, reaching an estimated speed of 50 mph before overturning a quarter mile from The Red Arrow incident. 1 died and 12 injured from the 2nd incident.

The Wreck of the Old 97 was an American rail disaster involving the Southern Railway mail train, officially known as the Fast Mail (train number 97), en route from Monroe, Virginia, to Spencer, North Carolina, on September 27, 1903. Traveling at an excessive speed in an attempt to maintain schedule, the train derailed at the Stillhouse Trestle near Danville, Virginia, where it careened off the side of the bridge, killing 11 on-board personnel and injuring seven others. The wreck inspired a famous railroad ballad,

What sank the Titanic was a coal fire in the hull
@BrokenIET5 ай бұрын
@@pitbul8183 The fire wasn’t really a contributing factor at all. It barely had any oxygen so it was only really smouldering at around 600°C. It takes over 1200° for steel to stress and nearly 2000° for it to weaken and deform. The iceberg was going through Titanic’s hull regardless of whether or not there was a fire there. Also, the fire was only in 1 place, which was relatively far away from the hull plating, not the several hundred feet of hill the iceberg penetrated through. As for the original comment, I also disagree lateness was the cause. Titanic was running nearly a day early, and wasn’t late in the slightest. There are a multitude of reasons they were running at (nearly) full speed, but it was mostly down to wanting to arrive early and leave a good first impression with the press.

Just like the "Wreck of Old 97"! Railroad Engineer used to be a daredevil job, you were encouraged to be "on time" and that wasn't easy so they took some pretty big risks. Lot's of old "Train songs" based on actual events. In Mississippi there's a "Casey Jones" memorial marker (or there used to be) in Vaughan, Mississippi, the place where he died in a train wreck in 1900. He was hailed as a hero because he didn't jump and save himself but stayed with the train, "one hand on the brakes" and is credited with saving a number of lives. The engineers and brakemen were the real daredevil heroes back in their day.
