@simonm14474 жыл бұрын
It's a formula 1 track, exactly the type of race track for which this cars are designed. It may be possible to beat them in top speed on a long straight track (like a long runway), but not on a race track where fast cornering counts. This cars have massive downforce, nothing can take a corner like them.

@@simonm1447 But realistically, the engineering that goes into these F1 cars, even more so now with the V6 Turbohybrid, would produce the fastest car of any type if they put their minds to it. If they can pull over 1000bhp from a tiny 1.6L V6 with strict fuel flow and RPM regulations, you have to imagine what they could do if they just went out and built a dragster, or a car designed for Oval racing. F1 teams are the pinnacle of car engineering, whether it's aerodynamic, engine, transmission, tyres, brakes, there isn't anything the teams can't build better than anyone else. We see it with Dallara, they are amazing car designers, yet they can't come close to designing a good enough F1 car for Haas despite getting help from Ferrari.

RB7 1:41.287... this weekend Hamilton qualified in 1:20.486. Even considering Hamilton is a 5-time World Champion and Coulthard is... well, Coulthard, that goes to show how much F1 cars have evolved in the last 8 years.
@NippyMoto5 жыл бұрын
No, this run is very slow for the F1 hence the comment I made above. Seb did a 1:23.529 in 2011 with the same car. The result of these things is always doctored, they probably didn't want to make the other two cars look ridiculously slow.

Y'all can't actually be serious, right? Comparing a quali hot lap with a standing start lap where the RB7 is sitting on the grid for a minute, so it has stone cold tyres and has basically no grip getting away from the grid. No driver in that RB7 would have gone much faster than this, it's just not how F1 cars work.
@m1co294 Жыл бұрын
@@charles-antoinemartel-roy it was absolutely calculated, they probably had Coulthard do a certain average speed and same with the other drivers. The same thing happened during the F1 car vs Superbike vs V8 race they did, all three came side by side on the final straight. For races, the cars are on blanketed tyres, and then they remove the tyre blankets 5 minute till race start when the crew leaves the track. What also matters alot is the track temperature, Australia isn't really a cold place, the track would've warmed up the tyres well enough about halfway through the run if the car was pushed as fast as a quali outlap or even a parade lap.

I saw this done once with a Street Bike .vs Super Bike .vs Indy Car .vs F1 Car. I think it was in the 90's. It was epic and finished in reverse order of start just like this race. Being a fat American, I wasn't as familiar with F1 back then; it blew my mind to see it catch up to the Indy Car and blow right by it like it did.
@RRaquello5 жыл бұрын
By the 90's, IndyCars were just kit cars, as they are now, and no real comparison with F1 cars. In the 60's, when F1 cars first came to Indy, the Indy Cars were at least competitive, faster on the straights, but slower in the corners, when compared to F1. The F1 car was still faster and higher tech, but the IndyCars were at least in the same ball park, and were more durable over 500 miles. In the late 50's, Indy Cars raced and beat F1 cars at Monza, and around the same time Rodger Ward, in a midget, beat the top Le Mans type sports cars in a road race at Lime Rock Park. There was a time when Indy Cars were top level race cars, but it hasn't been that way for decades. I love IndyCar, but compared to F1, the cars are cheap junk. They had to take the cheap route to survive, or they would have gone the way of CanAm. The money just doesn't exist in US racing for it to be any other way.

Very very nice event. It clearly just show's how much those F1 and Supercar's can punch down. I think those event's should be shown also more around the world to get people to grasp what really is going on in the world of racing. Think about how this would be in Monaco or Dubai as an event before the race. It is something which will fill the ranks. Especially when they hear this monster of a V8 V10 or V12 F1 going around the course to catch them. Today they only race V6 but those real F1 car's is what had drawn the crowds and I think we should bring them back to a certain degree even like a F1 race between 3 Generations of F1 from V8 over V10/V12 and the today's V6 so we can see how far each generation of F1 already have gotten.

Mercedes and Supercar initially had no chance against F-1! The F-1 bolid has a large downforce, which on high-speed tracks with turns allows to keep speed higher and thus to go faster. If this competition was held on a straight road, then it would be a lot more interesting.
