Yes, it's against a Championship side, but those few extra days for Eddie actually to get the lads on the training ground made a world of difference. January is still going to be challenging, but I think this is the start of our rebound. I'd be very happy with a top 6 or 7 finish. Let's go win the Europa Conference League, then the Europa league, then we can take the Champions League on again. I'm in no rush. Incremental improvement each season suits me fine. Just one fan's opinion. (Been following NUFC since 2001-even though it's from a distance, and this is the most exciting it's been in so many years.)

Mmmm firstly great comments Craig but let's face it we played a team yesterday who imo are a poor poor team . We couldn't have wanted such an easy game ..... Secondly again only my opinion and I've been supporting the toon since the mid 1970s , Eddie has been a breath of fresh air since the takeover ...fact . He has raised the game and energy transformed players who under previous management couldn't find a way out . Fact ... Under no misinterpretations do I really think Eddie can take us to another level . Ok I've got my feet on the ground have done since the Keegan and robson era fell flat , I'm not like a lot of you tubers who thinks even Amanda for that matter ?? That we are going to in her opinion "win the lot" bless her , we cannot compete at present with the big 6 cash wise because we can't spend it . I'm just pleased we are at least trying and so it shall be a trying time for us to get things into prospective and look at the clubs 5 yr 10 yr plan . Be honest Eddie is not going to be here in 5 yrs probs not even 3 ...... But ones things for sure he's got us on the right playing field and if he goes at end of season he can go with his head held high like Steve Cooper at Forest .......

Hope Joe's injury isn't serious. He's such a massive player for us. It's not just the physicality, it's his ability to suddenly beat a man in tight spaces and create an opening. Without that we're very predictable at times. Re Bruno, I don't think its an issue of consistency, I think it's a case of him taking too long on the ball against the better teams. He's trying to do too much and he gets closed down. Ultimately he needs better players alongside him (hopefully Howe can get him and Tonali to work together next season).

How Newcastle play and what normally transpires as the end result is how bruno performes when he is on his game like today and is allowed space Newcastle normally win the problem is if teams swamp him and Don't allow him to play that's when Newcastle struggle but games like this when he dictates the play and has time and space also his defensive work was excellent just proves he is Newcastle United most important player
@adamhopkins297610 ай бұрын
I think that's where Joelinton helps though. With all due respect with a Longstaff or a Miley in midfield with him the opposition know they can concentrate on Bruno and that'll cut the supply line to the others. Joey can dominate a game himself if they ignore him, so they have to take some players off Bruno to deal with him giving him more space. He's a huge miss vs City, hope he's fit soon.

Sorry Craig but I don't believe there has been a lack of "belief". If we had a full squad then we would fear no one. It's as simple as that. The only "lack of.." I see is that of the ability to refresh the first XI. Whilst I agree every team has injuries, our previous lack of investment under Cashley means when we have to dig deep for squad members, we really are scarping the bottom with relegation standard players. In the words of the great investor Warren Buffett "you can't produce a baby in one month by making 9 women pregnant!". Time. Patience. Relax. Trust The Process. I'm sure you are but a lot of people aren't.

Been thinking further, the nice thing about yesterday (outside of beating the Mackams) was no VAR interference. I personally thought the foul on Isak was a foul, worth a second yellow which VAR may have given, but it was a proper flowing game with some tough tackles at times and the players just got on with it. I’ve thought there were positives to be had around VAR but there really isn’t after watching a free flowing, interruption free game. Was more enjoyable as a result. I’m now an advocate to sack it off and bring back our game that we love. Give it back to the fans, it’s currently being ruined and games like this where VAR is not there prove it. Yes there may be some decisions that are wrong without it, but even with it I’d say recently more have been wrong than before and it goes on forever!!! Rant over. Thanks again Craig for another great review!

Cheeky Seagull reference: Check 🙂 I enjoyed it, we looked a lot more like our normal selves. I liked Sunderland's intent, they made a go of it and that young side will only get better, it's a shame they've not an old head like Cattermole guiding them on the pitch. However, the gulf in quality became very apparent and that should give the lads the confidence and boost they needed to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. The goal just at the start of the second half killed the game really. At 1-0 its always dicey in any game but as soon as it went 2-0 it was a long way back for a Sunderland side who offered very little, it was then about control and the rounds of "ole" and possesion stats show that we were just a cut above. Have to question Sunderland and how little homework they seemed to have done on us. Playing out from the back is great to see but it also plays into our hands as we pressure so hard and so fast.

I love having local players in the team, but it can't be just because they're local. Longstaff is so wasteful with goal chances that it's becoming pointless for him to be in those positions instead of better finishers. 1 chance on the 6 yard box and 1 with plenty of time on the 18 yard box. Both put high or wide. It might not matter against lower opposition, but if we want to win tight games against top opposition, we need players who can take these chances. If he can't improve his finishing (at least hit the target) then I don't think he can last much longer as a first team regular. He'd have to accept a place as Dummett type squad player.

Yet again we saw the reality of lack of tactical original thought from Howe. We didn't penetrate their defenses nearly enough that can be seen by the lack of shots on goal. An OG, a giveaway and a pen is not scoring goals it's luck and Eddie ran out of ideas and luck early on this season as can be proven by the scorelines in the EPL. The 2 man team Mackems were over run but that doesn't excuse our lack of tactics.

Really poor from Sunderland, I expected better. All their players are so bang average.

Shite. They were outclassed. We didn't even get out of 1st gear, either !

Great content as normal Craig , Newcastle got the job and game plan done , but still not an impresive performance to what we are used to have seen this season, I thought Sunderland could have made a game of it and gave Newcastle too much respect This game will take the pressure of Eddie for the time being, as the last few games have gave him a bit to think about which you could see in some of his past match Interviews I just hope this is kick start to the rest of the season We still need a midfield no 6 and Striker in my eyes Miggy Trips snd Gordon looked much better and Joelinton stood out a mile. Have a great week Craig
