In this video I talk about my RED Digital Cinema Camera. Is it worth buying a DSMC 1 RED in 2024? I give my review on using the RED Epic-X for a music video production which I was the director of photography for. With many people gravitating towards more cine-style mirrorless cameras like the Sony FX3, Sony ZV-E1, Sony FX30, the landscape for filmmakers is changing. Especially affordable cinema cameras like the Sony FX6, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras, Blackmagic PYXIS 6k, and Kinefinity Mavo are also viable options for many professional DPs and Filmmakers. The RED Komodo is getting more affordable but is still significantly more expensive than the other options from Sony and Blackmagic. The best price-to-performance ratio might actually be an older RED from the DSMC 1 or DSMC 2 generations, like the RED Epic-X with Mysterium-X sensor I have here.

I think they expect you to use time code if you're using a red camera? I think it's more reliable for syncing than audio matching.

Awesome video! Question, why do you guys in Europe still use 25fps (and 50fps) in the modern era? It made sense...I guess...during the days of CRT tvs. But we all use the same flat panels with native refresh rates these days all around the world.

RED didn't think you needed a microphone because it was designed for sets where timecode is being used.

My oly em1.2 would prb be fine and easier to use, but it doesnt do raw/non 8bit codecs.

It‘s not related to the video but i need an opinion on something. So i‘m currently shooting on a fuji xt2 but found a sony a7 iii with two lenses for a good price, would spending the money on the switch to the a7 iii be worth it in your opinion?

Please never again work like this with glass. This is extremely dangerous - your talent could have gotten severely hurt by the microscopic splinters of that mirror. Other than that: great insight into your learning process. (If I was mistaken and you used safety glass - good job and sorry for being overprotective!)

especially in a basement with no ventilation. i mean, worse stuff happened on sets before, but you are right, its not the best idea to break mirrors like that
