Ben is out in the beautiful sunshine today preparing the next large garden bed for growing our corn this year. We parked the chickens in this spot 6 months ago so they could fertilize and till in compost for us. Also, Meg is getting a bunch done in the kitchen today.
Today’s music, in order (available through Epidemic Sound bit.ly/2Mt3tXm ):
Intro: Let Me Love You by Loving Caliber

You all work so hard, but let me tell you without your skills in the kitchen you sure wouldn't have to grow very much. Meg you are so inspiring! It's nice to see your watching Simple Living Alaska. I have watched them since they left to move there. An amazing couple. I have made a lot of things that they make in cooking, canning, and other things too. Although I am not doing my own garden anymore, I still do canning etc. Your kids will never forget the food and growing things. It isn't the same as going out for meals, it's so much better! Do you teach the boys how to cook? That would be fun to watch them cooking to learn those skills. They have learned so much outside. I am 76 this year, and when I went to school the boys also had to take classes in the kitchen, and also sewing! They made what you would call back packs these days, where the girls made cloths. Basic things had to be learned by all students. Many people don't know how to do any of that these days. I hope it's a trend that is back to learning things again. One day they will be on their own, and can cook great meals I bet. Your such a good cook, baker, and crafter of many things. I just don't know how you fit it all in! Ben the garden looks so good and rich soil. You've worked so hard getting it ready since you moved there. I am sure the boys could take a lot of it over if they had to, but helping is what it is all about. Sending love from Western, N.Y.

Yup about fixing the dirt and turning it into soil. We live on the western side of the mountain in NE Tennessee. Tilling up the corn patch last year was crazy filled with rocks and clay soil. We still got a good dent corn harvest. So then we put a ton of leaves and grass cuttings on the field and covered it with black plastic. A few days ago hubby tilled it up wow beautiful soil. And tons of worms. The chickens are loving all the goodies out there. Can’t wait to plant

You are both such an inspiration to me, for the first time in 10 years I now have a postage stamp size garden but I can actually garden in it, the long term goal is to have built raised beds as I am confined to a wheelchair but for now I have found a biodegradable grow bag that will give me enough space to grow the veg I like and I am so looking forward to getting up and growing. Like Meg I cooked everyday for the family from the age of 8 years old, fast food for me was fish fingers and chips as I cooked from scratch with fresh everything and I used to love baking, now when I see Megs dough it looks amazing so my next goal is to get baking again and if it turns out looking half as nice as Megs I will be happy 😊 Love to you all as usual xxxx

@kimrafferty7170
@kimrafferty7170 Жыл бұрын
@@pathoward5721 Brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, parsnips, beetroot, tomatoes and strawberries. The tomatoes and strawberries will be in separate spaces but I just can't wait to get to grow food that my family can enjoy and my granddaughter will love, she has just turned 1 and her favourite vegetable is broccoli, she loves blueberries and raspberries as well so hopefully I will be able to grow a couple of bushes of each. I literally moved into my new bungalow 1 month ago and I have enjoyed seeing the flowers blooming that were already here and I can plant the blueberries and raspberries in with the small flower beds that are already here. I had huge gardens in the past that had some amazing trees but my favourite was the apple and elderberry but the garden I have now is tiny, hopefully I will be able to have raised beds either side of the path so I can have my winter veg on one side and the summer crops on the other side. It is just so exciting being at the start of growing things again, over the last 10 years I grew one chilli plant but I can't eat them, I grew them for my son, I saved a couple for the seeds so hopefully they will germinate and he can have some chilli's to make hot sauce of his own, he also has his very first garden and it is at least 8 times the size of my garden so between us we will be able to grow some lovely fresh vegetables, in a couple years both gardens will be totally different to what they are now.
