I always thought the game was actually pretty ominous and tense. Everything is more slow paced but that shit can easily be interrupted by a bear knocking you off your horse and mauling you helplessly before you can even react. Or the countless other gruesome shit you can come across in abandoned cabins and whatnot. It's a heavy game
