It may be a small system, but I'm so glad they put the time and effort to incorporate it regardless. I'm a sucker for trams and in St Denis they just make for some the most atmospheric shots I've ever seen in a video game! That being said, if you're interested in more fictional networks per se, I can also suggest Watch Dogs 1's L Trains and Watch Dogs 2's suprisingly vast tram and trolley network. :]

1:28 The undercarriage of the Tram is swiveling. RDR2 is the first Rockstar made game to feature this. Watch Dogs 1 and 2 also had this, but most people never noticed that. 2:50 Glad to see that you watch NJB too. 3:33 Only R* game to realize this concept. Makes the transportation system more immersive.

Honestly the two loop system is a bit weird, given how small the Red Loop is (Litterally only circeling one block), but I guess that has to to with map compresion, were the map refects an area that is acutally much larger, and I guess two loops makes this buisier.
@TheTransitDiaries4 ай бұрын
Good point. The two loops also help it feel more real. Having just one line in the game always makes it feel forced and just there for the city feel realism.

@@TheTransitDiarieswhat i dont get is why most game city transit systems are made up entirely of looping lines, surely it cant be that much harder to mane the trains turn around?

the sloped street resulting in less snow is a cool but simple trick they are using probably on all the models, it's related to 'triplanar' mapping, they basically only show snow on the pixels of a model that have an angle that is nearly perpendicular to the up direction, its a classic shader technique. To create a natural edge they interpolate with a noise texture or the normal map of the street.
@TheTransitDiaries4 ай бұрын
Great insight, I didn't know that! It's good to see automated simulations and shading get better, my brain is still stuck thinking "they have to 3d model and place all that snow". Seeing game engines like UE5 etc getting very advanced is super exciting!

I think Rockstar purposely put very little effort into the transport system in games like GTA V for the realism because LA doesn't put much effort into their public transport system in real life and in RDR2 the transport system had lots of effort put into it because public transport was done properly in American cities in that time era before they were bulldozed to make room for cars
