@@phil9947 I love how they expanded upon the whole character using this one line as a basis. We had a lot of earfuls from Dutch about his foolproof totally-gonna-work-this-time-I-swear plans. Also made me emotional when he recited the quotes from his last wholesome duo moment with Arthur, when they were escaping together from the army. And how he said "Our time is passed, John." like in the whole story of RDR2, this man was so serious and radical about his dream to make the "ideal America" that he ended up sacrificing his gang for it in his insanity. And now, you see him completely hopeless and accepting that it feels surreal. His death leaves you feeling somber after having played through RDR2.

@@masterblaster2678 For me the real turning point in RDR2 was Hosea going with the Saint Denis bank robbery. That kind of heist was far beyond the gang's realm of knowledge and experience, especially after the traps they fell into with Bronte. In the end, Angleo Bronte was right when he told Dutch “you are nothing, you mean nothing, and when the law catch up to you, you will die like nothing.” Dutch spent his last days desperately trying to mean something, fighting against a world that didn’t need outlaws and gunslingers like him anymore. In the end, he threw away his gun and killed himself rather than let John shoot him. Dutch didn’t even go down fighting- he took the coward’s way out and died like nothing.
@johnnyquantum81252 жыл бұрын
No I don't think Bronte was right and I think you're being to broad. Dutch would probably be remembered throughout history rather infamously, one of the most famous terrorists of the late 19th and early 20th century, someone responsible for the deaths of major American figures and stealing millions along with his gang also as for his death, both are suicide, suicide by jumping off a cliff rather than suicide by letting John shoot him with his gun is still also suicide, so then both would be equally cowardly ~ which I wouldn't say that either because he had no option but to either be taken in by the government and hanged, or kill himself right then, which obviously is the better option

Horrible take. He didn't fall off the cliff because he was scared, he did it because he realized the pointlessness in fighting on. There is no scenario where he lives once he meets John at the top of that maintain. Bronte wasn't right either, because in context he went on to to compare what he had to what Dutch had. He "ran a city" and Dutch only had his followers, yet those followers were loyal to Dutch for the man he was. Dutch did infact possess things someone like Bronte could never comprehend, and he still had those things at the end, only fighting for those things was now fruitless due to the amount of change brought about by societal advancement.
@koolandblue2 жыл бұрын
@@a_loyal_kiwi88 Dutch didn't possess his followers. They started leaving him once it became clear that Dutch was only interested in his own selfish reasons for fighting. Anyone that ever put any faith in Dutch ended up suffering because of it. Also, Dutch didn't possess anything by this point. During the encounter with Dutch at the hotel, Dutch claims he and his men are "fighting for an idea, not just for ourselves." But if you let John and Dutch dialogue during the sequence when Dutch is shooting at John with the gatling gun, John questions Dutch about what he's fighting for and what he's accomplished. Dutch only gives vague responses like "you'd never understand" and "you'll never know." It was obvious Dutch was only fighting because it was all he knew how to do. He meant nothing, stood for nothing and the law finally caught up to him.

"When I'm gone, they'll just find another monster. They have to, because they have to justify their wages." -Dutch ('Wages' here refers to Romans 6:23, "The wages of sin is death," which shows Dutch is far more intelligent and knowledgeable than he lets on, but decides to let the interpreter find out what he truly means, like a twisted puzzle.) --- The Irony of this line is how the true meaning of it went over John's head in the heat of the moment. It was both a warning to John and a philosophical statement relating to a biblical verse about the consequences of sin. - From Dutch's mind, he was saying two things: "You don't get it. They're going to come after you too." + "They will not be stopped, as they are trying to justify their own existence as well as their own bad deeds by hunting down those they consider worse than them, hoping to prove that they are good people for putting down 'bad' men." - But, from John's mind, he was hearing two different things entirely: "They're just gonna go after some other bad guy after I'm dead." + "They won't stop because they need a reason for having their wages." ^ John construes 'wages' as in literal pay; money. For John, Dutch is the last obstacle between him and his family. He isn't overthinking it the way Dutch is. For Dutch, these are his final moments, he knows he is about to be dead, so he tries to teach John one last lesson. --- When John said "That's their business," John was thinking "Why the hell does that matter? How is that relevant? I don't care what they do, I'm here for my family." - And when Dutch said "Our time has passed," he was thinking "My poor boy does not understand the gravity of the situation, nor does he understand what I have tried to allude to. If he can't see that, there is no point in stating it in a more obvious manner. His mind is made up. There is no hope for either of us." ----- The dialogue in this game is incredible.

Ross had a plan, even if John died he would have sent the Army after Bill, Javier, and Dutch anyways. That's why Ross kills John cause he was the Last member of Dutch's gang and he took the credit of taking down all 4 of them which is not true but of course they believe him and i hate to say it but Ross is right you can't just erase the past and pretend it never happend, John lived that Outlaw life and he has to pay for it. @@gamingandrewbro8815it isn’t a plot hole, it genuinely makes a lot of sense. John hated him and wanted him dead after Dutch left him behind at the train robbery. But after Dutch killed Micah and let John have the Blackwater money, John somewhat forgave Dutch, but still hated him a bit. When he has to track him down, he doesn’t want to because it was his former father, even if he still hates him a bit, but he knows he has to for his family. Pretty self explanatory. No plot hole

I'm probably stating the obvious here, but after playing RDR2, seeing Dutch and his new gang causing problems i.e. murdering and threatening innocents, robbing banks, capturing folk and executing them, basically just shitting all over Nate Johns, Ross and Fordham and the entire Government because they hated the civilised world, just shows how he never learnt anything from the events of RDR2. He lost his first lover (Annabelle, who got killed by Colm) because of a murder he committed (he killed Colm's brother), which started a long-term feud with the O'Driscolls (where it would inadvertently cost the life of Kieran and, before that, Arthur's brief capture and torture), he got completely brainwashed by Micah, a man who was there right from the beginning to break Dutch and the entire gang apart (even though it's not confirmed, it's heavily speculated by the game and quite a few fans, myself included), which led to him going along with Micah's plan to rob a ferry in Blackwater where 3 members were killed (Jenny, Davey and Mac - although that could easily have been a lie on Milton's part) and 1 was captured (Sean - who gets rescued anyway). He then leaves a trail of mass destruction from that point on: robbing a train and creating an enemy in Cornwall, sending Arthur to break Micah out of Strawberry Jailhouse where the entire town would end up slaughtered, rather than going himself, effectively wiping out two rich and powerful families because him and Micah decided to play both sides for money, walks into an obvious trap set up by Bronte for more money, murdering Bronte, and then undertakes a bank heist - directly after murdering Bronte and destroying his security - where his best friend and the youngest gunmen (Hosea and Lenny) were killed and watched as John was arrested and sent to prison. Upon returning from Guarma, he murders the richest man in the state and then uses the Native Americans' hatred of the the government to his advantage, where Eagle Flies and hundreds of Wapitis are killed during the Oil Factory raid, which was suggested by Dutch. He leaves Abigail to be tried for murder until Arthur and Sadie rescue her, while all around him, people are doubting him, until only a few remain in his gang, and right at the end, he sides against Arthur and John, the two sons he brought up, in favour of Micah. He watches Arthur die and then disappears. Years later, the only decent thing he actually did was shoot Micah, even though John finished him off. 4 years later (RDR1), he's leading a new gang full of Native Americans, despite the fact he used a similar tribe 12 years previous to get what he wanted, and even though he caused sooooo many deaths - good and bad guys - spanning about 30 years (Annabelle, Heidi McCourt, Jenny, Davey, Mac, Sean, the Braithwaite and Gray Families, Kieran, Bronte, Hosea, Lenny, Levi Simon and Alberto Fussar, Molly, Cornwall, Eagle Flies, countless Native Americans, Arthur, Susan, Micah, Muriel Scranton, Nastas) - he still continues to rebel against civilisation and doesn't give a shit who he hurts - even if it's his own sons - and what the consequences will be afterward. I get he didn't directly cause everything and he wasn't alone in his actions, but the fact he still carried on after everything that happened is incredibly sad after seeing the events of RDR2 and RDR1. Nevertheless, I really like Dutch as a character, and all of the above pretty much is down to his personality and beliefs, even if it meant sacrificing himself to hold onto them.
