Been sitting in the Unity yard (Cape Town Docks) with other locomotives and rolling stock used by Ceres Rail for a few years. The other locomotives and rolling stock are used on an almost weekly basis for leisure trips between Cape Town and Elgin / Cape Town and Ceres, but the Red Devil hasn’t (to the best of my knowledge) been used on any trips since before the pandemic. I’ve heard rumors that the Transnet Heritage Foundation wants to have it moved back to its storage depot in Bloemfontein, but those are of course just Facebook rumors. My main concern is that the Cape Town sea air will be harmful to the loco if it continues to just sit there out in the open, but the people at Ceres Rail are undoubtedly keeping an eye on it - as they would the rest of the units / stock in their current collection.

What a disappointment, I was hoping to hear that crisp bark of the double-Lempor working hard. What is the status of 3450 today?

Tell me about it. Was only the beginning of lots of disappointment for me. I chased three other RD trips where the loco was a non starter. It's currently kept at Unity yard near the docks.
