I still have photos that I took of her standing in Cape Town station under dust...in the old red colour still. Was it platform 24?

From a mechanical engineer, a South African Pole, passionate about trains and railways: 1. What is the kW output of each of the Class variants? 2. Who produced the very motors? 3. What is the maximum speed while pulling fully occupied a train? 4. Is the max speed limited by the locos' power, or - the tracks themselves? Nice shooting and SOUND! (My heart cries for the deterioration of Transnet/Spoornet network and rolling stock! South Africa has so much potential for producing world-class passenger/tourist oriented trains! Not mentioning the non-perishable goods transportation.)

They operate pretty good for 3632, the South African Railway Class 24 Steam Locomotives are pretty cool and they every time do well in service too.

I live in the US, & ive always been fascinated with 3450. I remember reading about it in a book and since then I could never forget it. She reminded me much of the NYCs Niagara 4-8-4s

From all of the hard work to the locomotive sitting outside Cape Town What a shame 😢, I would love to see her under her own power again

These videos make me sad, they basically rebuilt the locomotive and now it's just parked outside of Cape Town rusting away

Love it!

What a pleasant surprise! Excellent compilation Wayne - enjoyed watching this even if it included some of my own not-so-good efforts. How the world have changed since these videos! Currently no more electrical traction between Wellington and Worcester. That middle track through Brackenfell station has been clamped for ages. Hardly any trains now going to Saldanha. Etc etc. Glad KZbin got you to upload a video again!!! 🤑

In saw the Tootsie in the shed there (the class 19D loco - number 2640). She looks in decent condition surprisingly - not much rust. Has any progress been made on her? She’s a very special and popular loco… I hope she gets restored and the Mosselbay George route gets restored soon (maybe even all the way to Knysna) one day so that the Outeniqua Choo Tjoe can make its long waited return. Pls let me know.

My late Father was a Steam Driver and was working for SAICCOR driving their engines from 2005 until he passed away in December 2010. Sad to have seen this ending and the Diesels taking over. I myself is working for Metrorail here in Durban as a Yard Master. Great video and thank you as this brought back very fond memories of my Dad.
