How much did you pay. I been on "back order" for some 2 months now! I refuse to pay $2000,00!

So sorry to hear about Enzo. He was by all accounts a good boy. It’s clear that you are all still feeling the emotional impact of his departure. I’m sure you have many great photos and videos of him that will comfort you in the years to come, and that is really the ultimate gift of photography: it’s one of the most durable mementos of the things we love the most. I’m sending you guys my well wishes and condolences.

Hi there thanks for the video. I owned a D-lux type 109 for 5 years before upgrading to the D-lux 7 for the last 5 years. So I will upgrade to the D-lux 8 when available here in the UK. I find them great travel cameras with excellent image quality. One thing I noticed about the D-Lux 8 is that the base ISO has been lowered to 100 and so the longest exposure is 60 seconds, this will add to my enjoyment because I can fit an ND filter and shoot some long exposure photography, it just adds to the positive user experience...😊

Gotta say, a good M43 sensor (like that in the D-Lux) would run circles around those "Shot on iPhone" 12MP billboards.

David and Josh: Great Show as always! Is there any chance you could pass along the following request/suggestion to Leica for a firmware update? Enable a focal length toggle (like the virtual toggle on the Q cameras) to be assigned to one of the FN buttons. So you can toggle between 24, 35, 50 and 75mm. With that you would be able to toggle between your favourite focal lengths even without looking at the camera. The continous zoom-rocker on the top is the only annoing thing on this beautiful camera. Thanks guys!

I have only just entered into the Leica ownership family with an M6 Titanium courtesy of a £20 winning ticket in a UK Leica competition / prize draw. I have never seen the piint in buying a Dlux model in the past and have always bought the Lumix branded equivalent as there is absolutely no difference apart from the red dot and of course the extra cost. I currently own several Lumix bodies and compscts, and find the LX7 to be all that I need when travelling, and sometimes team it up with a TZ90 for extra reach. I think the the Dlux 8 is a great camera, but I'd pick up a used LX100 if I wanted the manual dial options and use the spare cash to travel, and the macro switch function is also on the LX7 that I have and a few other of the LX models.

Any idea when these camera will be no longer "back ordered." I ve been on 3 wait list some 2+ months now!

I contacted them. Arte die Mano will come with a half case. Yes they have problems sourcing a D-Lux 8 and after that it takes about 12 weeks for designing one.

Hello to you all and many thanks for this informative video. I just one frustrating problem with the 8. I've set the menu as I want it but find that when the camera is powered off some of the settings reverts to the defaults. , eg DNG reverts to DNF/JPG. I can find no solution on the internet. I'd be very grateful if you can help. Gerry

JJC makes an auto lens cap that does fit with filters screwed on. It has LX100II in the name but it fits the DLUX 8 like it was made for that. Much cheaper than the Leica cap and just as good quality.

Not putting at least a 30W wall charger and an optimised USB-C cable for best download and charging performance in the box is ridiculous unveiling of greed. It’s a general thing not genuinely Leica. Also the batteries of my M11 Monochrom, Q3, SL2-S, they are at least (for no particular reason) double the price like e.g. a Nikon EN-EL15, the Nikon battery comes with a protective cap for the contacts.

It’s hard to compete with Fujifilm XM5, which is APSC costs $800 less with kid lens. I love my Leica camera but it’s difficult to buy this dated Panasonic camera with red dot.

The second big reason (if not even the most important one) next to image quality that sets a camera apart from a phone would be user experience and this is where Leica unfortunately has only gone halfway with the D-Lux 8. If they had put a fixed 35mm equivalent lens onto it and made it fully manual (and kept the EV compensation dial and left video out completely) it would be an instant buy for me as a companion to my M11, but the way it is right now it still delivers too much a phone and too little of Leica user experience, especially with that goofy zoom rocker that completely kills any pleasure of using a photgraphy tool...
@Benjamin_Jehne4 ай бұрын
Put a 35mm on your M11. I don't get it?! It's a zoom camera. If you want a fixed lens camera buy the Q3, the camera is already there.
@TomWangArt4 ай бұрын
@@Benjamin_Jehne A phone is already there as well and it is in my pocket all the time so what exactly is the benfit of the D-Lux then...? The shutter dial alone does not convince me to buy it (there are quite some pocket cameras on the market that offer o lot more physical exposure dials and much better user experience) and the difference in image quality is there for sure, but not as dramatic as they have shown in the video, as they have only compered the best you can get from the camera with the worst you can get from the phone. You can shoot RAW on the phone and controll it manually as well while getting much better results than those they've shown. But then you're at a point when you're using it more like a creative tool than a point & shoot and for that the D-Lux simply doesn't deliver the whole experience that would convince you to use it that way. The way it is designed just doen't distinct it enough from a phone to get creative with it. It will most likely get the same use as a phone, which is daily snapshots, just much less convenient. If it would deliver a slightly better user experience in that form factor, that would make me want to use it for "artistic" work and I would seriously consider picking it instead of my M11 occasionally, but as it is I'll stick with my phone for my "tourist snapshots" instead...

Great point Tom…..I would be all in with a fixed 35 or 30 mm lens, yes I know the Q is available but it is huge…. Basically a DSLR size and over $6000 dollars. I can afford it but want something smaller
@Benjamin_Jehne4 ай бұрын
@@TomWangArt I can’t disagree more, but it’s not worth going into long typing for it. It's about two completely different perspectives on the topic.

I thin Leica dropped the ball in this respect. Since battery power is not that great, why did Leica decide to have electronic zoom, which steals battery power. Why didn't they have a system where, when in AF mode, you can use the lens focus ring to zoom and when in manual focus you can use the electronic zoom
@jeffchastain29774 ай бұрын
You should always charge your batteries OUTSIDE of your camera. Charging blocks can pass bad shorts and huge spikes during power outages and lightning storms and other unusual power events, so if you want to brick your Q3, or your D-Lux 8, plug it in to a charging block and then plug that into the wall. I will always require a separate battery charger for that reason, AND because I would like to have at least 2 charged batteries with me when I go out shooting and a separate charger can facilitate that. I hope that Leica plans to make a battery charger for this camera, or it uses a battery used by another camera with a separate battery charger, or I won't be buying it.
