Red Dragon is like a true crime podcast, focusing on the grisliness and violence of the crimes and who the killer was and less on the actual victims affected by it. As evidenced by the crime scene photos we didn’t get many glimpses of in the first film and a focus on the abuse Dolarhyde went through under his Grandmother. Manhunter is more like the police procedurals of the time and focuses on how the crime affects the detectives and victims and generally more sympathetic to them than the killer. While they follow the same plot lines, it’s interesting to see how different they are despite that.

Honestly after watching Red Dragon, Manhunter, and the NBC series I think the NBC series is my favorite version of Red Dragon and I think it's solely due to having the previous 2.5 seasons of history between all the characters involved. Not only that, but Mads Mikselsen as a much more subdued version of Hannibal, even when he's incarcerated which makes him so much more terrifying.

I hope at some point we get an adaptation where Dolarhyde more physically resembles his book counterpart, who was supposed to be an absolute unit in bodybuilder shape. Just the idea of someone who's both physically strong and massive and out of his mind bonkers is something I think would play really well on the screen.

@tuckershuff1441 I regularly get pretty big, and I'm trying to make it as an actor. I'm not a big fan of Norton in general, he's good yes, but I just don't see what everyone else does. He's great in Fight Club but, well like James said, he's just Norton. Graham should be this hollow, haunted character. It's why Dancy and Petersen are so amazing at playing him. If you can't see them awkwardly stimming in the corner of a room they aren't Graham. I know in eight years time where Warner Brothers has fully bought out the rights to Dead Meat and production of the show gets outsourced to the entire population of a small city, the show-count will be amazing.

The Casting for Will, Hannibal and Jack are 10/10 still crushed it got cancelled for “too high of production” so we never got their version of Silence of the Lambs we got all books beside that one which really sucks. So I usually watch the show then silence even if there are continuity errors.

Fun facts 1. Sir Anthony Hopkins stated that one of his goals in playing Dr. Hannibal Lecter for a final time was to re-establish that he is an evil serial killer as Hopkins believed Hannibal had come to be seen too much as a likable anti-hero by audiences. 2. Sir Anthony Hopkins showed up on the set during one of his off days just so he could watch Philip Seymour Hoffman work. The two actors shared no scenes in this movie. 3. Sir Anthony Hopkins (Dr. Hannibal Lecter), Anthony Heald (Dr. Frederick Chilton), and Frankie Faison (Barney Matthews) all reprised their roles from earlier movies in the franchise. Faison is the only one to have appeared in the first four Thomas Harris "Hannibal" adaptations having also appeared in Manhunter (1986) in a different role. 4. The establishing shot of the Baltimore State Hospital for the Criminally Insane was re-used from The Silence of the Lambs (1991) as the building was no longer available for filming. 5. Will Graham (Edward Norton) appears in only four scenes with Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) in this movie, the same number of scenes Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) shared with Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). 6. Brett Ratner directed Rush Hour 2 (2001) previous to directing this movie. In Rush Hour 2 (2001) ghe main villain's yacht and new casino in Las Vegas were named "The Red Dragon". 7. When Lecter is given the phone he punches the button in the cradle in a sequence dialing area code 312 which would be for a number in downtown Chicago. This trick worked on pre-digital phones it replicates what happens when a telephone dial is turned. When you put your finger in the hole for a specific digit pull it round to the stop then release it the spring turns the dial back creating one click for each digit as it passes. As the number 0 is the last in the sequence it clicks ten times. Upon the arrival of touch-tone phones wiz kids such as a young Steve Wozniak who co-founded Apple could build boxes to generate the tones making phone calls for free. The phone company later changed this to prevent such things. 8. After finding out that Francis Dolarhyde (Ralph Fiennes) knows where he lives Will Graham (Edward Norton) brings his family to a horse and sheep ranch a reference to the story of Clarice's (Jodie Foster's) childhood in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). 9. This movie opens with Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) attending an orchestral performance of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" specifically Felix Mendelssohn's Scherzo (Opus 21). The Scherzo serves as transition to Act II of William Shakespeare's play in which the Puck soon warns Oberon of "night's swift dragons", who "cut the clouds full fast". This refers to a Greek myth in which night is a chariot drawn by dragons whose eyes are always open and inescapable. It is worth noting that on stage (and in imagery far back as 1628) the Puck is often presented like a faun a mythical being that usually otherwise plays a flute as does the focus of Lecter's ire. 10. Many actors and actresses from this movie had also worked with the original Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Lecktor), Brian Cox. Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mary-Louise Parker appeared with Cox in RED 2 (2013), Edward Norton and Philip Seymour Hoffman in 25th Hour (2002), Emily Watson in The Boxer (1997) and The Water Horse (2007), and Ralph Fiennes in Coriolanus (2011). 11. According to the screenplay the special meal Hannibal requests while in his cell in exchange for advice is a veal dinner. It is the only time in the entire trilogy that Anthony Hopkins' Lector is shown eating. 12. When Graham opens the TV cabinet drawer at the Leeds' house some of the videotapes that are visible are the movies Jaws, E.T., The Big Fix, and Bustin' Loose. 13. Edward Norton and Anthony Hopkins have both appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Hulk and Odin respectively. 14. In the opening Dr. Hannibal Lecter serves his dinner guests wine that appears to bear the label of Maison Joseph Drouhin. Produced in French vineyards in Burgundy it is certainly not a Chianti. 15. The blind Reba McClane wears a braille watch a type of wristwatch which can be opened to touch/read the time. 16. In the scene where Will Graham realizes Hannibal Lector is his target not just his advisor and is subsequently stabbed in his lower left abdomen by Hannibal which Graham stabs Hannibal in his lower left abdomen in return to save himself. As a result both Will & Hannibal are not just both stabbed in the same spot and while both are wearing white button down shirts but both will also carry scars in the same location for the rest of their lives. This is a visual indication and reminder of Graham's mental similarity to Lector despite being moral opposites by societal standards. 17. Freddy Loundes writes an article that the Tooth Fairy will 'go down in flames.' shortly after he was kidnapped glued to a wheelchair set on fire and rolled down the street by the Tooth Fairy which he went down in flames. 18. The musician that Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) sees playing badly and later serves to his dinner guests was meant to be Benjamin Raspail whose head Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster) found in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). In that movie Hannibal tells Clarice that he did not kill Raspail merely "tucked him away much as I found him." This is not a discrepancy in the book Hannibal admits to having killed Raspail.l and the head in the jar was another man named Klaus. 19. When FBI agent Will Graham (Edward Norton) realizes that Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Sir Anthony Hopkins) is the killer for whom he is looking Lecter stabs him with a knife but Graham fends him off with arrows. This may be a subtle reference to how Hannibal was exposed in the novel. One of his victims was found horribly mutilated with multiple stab wounds. Graham discovered that the victim had a scar from an old wound that was caused by an arrow and finds out that Dr. Hannibal Lecter was the physician who had treated the wound. Graham visits Lecter a few times in the hope that Lecter may be able to provide a helpful lead. During one visit he notices an illustration in one of Lecter's books depicting a man with the same stab wounds as the victim which makes him realize that Lecter is the killer. However just as in this movie Lecter surprises Graham and nearly stabs him to death. 20. Frank Langella recorded lines as the Voice of the Dragon in the scene where the Dragon tells Dolarhyde (Ralph Fiennes) to kill Reba (Emily Watson). Although director Brett Ratner said that Langella did a great job he felt the voice-over didn't work the way he had intended. He then had Fiennes record the lines (almost like Dolarhyde's inner voice) but it was finally decided that the scene worked better without a voice-over.
