The film playing in the cinema is Casablanca, and it's a reference to series 4 episode 1 Camille, where Kryten falls in love with a GELF (genetically engineered life form, the shows way of not using aliens) that can transform into what anyone desires most. There was a scene where they both watch Casablanca towards the end of the episode in a similar way to the 2 and the scutter in the ident, so it was something for fans of the show to recognise.

Red Dwarf Night was legendary. Series 7 had been a bit of a letdown, but Red Dwarf Night was exactly the boost it needed. A Dwarfer's dream television schedule. Some great stuff, they played entirely to the hardcore fans but still made it accessible to the newbies. The idents made it feel like the network were really supporting it, it was very special occasion in Red Dwarf history and every fan who saw it remembers the event well. There was a boost in blank VHS tape sales just before, believe me. No fan was going to let this go by without adding it to the collection, nobody knew if it would ever be released or repeated.

The Dwarf had a scutter called Bob, and it seems like the other Bob, aka Robert Llewellyn did the voice (uncredited it appears) of the other cinema goer who moans about the slurping. It's not known if the scutter dating the 2 is Bob, nor was it identified either way in the Parallel universe episode at the end of season two, where a male scutter was dating and got off with a female scutter, and then multiple scutters confirmed the notion of the male Lister being pregnant.
