The Cat: Why don't we drop the defensive shields? Kryten: A superlative suggestion, sir. With just two minor flaws. One, we don't have any defensive shields. And two, we don't have any defensive shields. Now I realise that technically speaking that's only one flaw but I thought that it was such a big one that it was worth mentioning twice. The Binks scene with Don Warrington is one of the best scenes in all of Red Dwarf. The pacing, the pure hilarity of the lines, the performances, just chef's kiss. The fact that they could get you to cry for what is supposed to be the "most hated character on the show" actually proves just how well the writers KNEW both their characters and the audience. In my third year of highschool (the Dutch schooling system is different, but I've translated to the US), there was this guy who transferred to my school. Now, I was very much a loner, I still love being on my own so, I didn't hang out with anyone from school. He came from another school and his impression of this new place was that it was filled with people who thought they were better than others. He initially lumped me in with everyone else, mistaking my aloofness for snobbishness. Anywho... We found out we had similar interests, taste in music, sense of humor, you get the gist, so we became friends. (it's lasted over 30 years now) And we both watched Red Dwarf as it was airing on the BBC. In the last days of our senior year, his english teacher thought it would be a good idea to have everyone talk about their experiences in school. Most of them saying things like: "I'm really going to miss everyone." or: "I've really enjoyed the last couple of years here." Not my friend. He basically did the Rimmer speech. "Over the years, I've come to regard you as,... people I've met." His classmates did not get the reference. When I heard about it, I just started laughing.

Remember that back in Balance Of Power, Rimmer's list of classical music includes Motorhead. So here, in the future that the Holoship came from, the heavy metal horns have become a dignified, serious military salute. LOL. "Quick, let's get out of here before they bring him back!" and "People I've met" get referenced by dwarfers regularly. You're in the golden age all right: Not only is Red Dwarf just about the best blend of high-concept sci-fi and hilarious situation comedy you'll find, Camille and Holoship show it can even be really romantic when it wants to. I go back and forth on S4 and S5 being "the best" series.

The rollercoaster of emotions the writers take you on in this episode is one that few comedies can carry off so well. If you want to see that ride done 2 or 3 times in an episode, check out "Soap". It takes you from total absurdity to tear jerking emotion and right back around to the absurd as easily as crossing a room. I mean, you know they're going to do it, you can't see how it's possible, they do it right in front of you, and you ask yourself how you fell for it... again.

I LOVE the fact that Rimmer (behind the neurosis, cowardice, and anti-social nature) wants to achieve the good things in life; a career, a relationship, a body. It's just he is the biggest source of comedy on the show. His arsehole nature, his family, the fact that people call Chris Barrie SMEG HEAD in the public streets. Chris Barrie’s facial expression when Jane Horrocks says “You make love like a Japanese meal; Small portions, but so many courses.” never fails to make me laugh.

It's quite apt Rimmer's love interest was played by Jane Horrocks, as she's an excellent impressionist herself. Particularly singers, as seen in the movie "little voice"

Hi Kat & Paula... One of my all time favourite Red Dwarf episodes is just two seasons away now... In Season 7 Episode 1 Tikka to Ride... The final plot twist in this episode is quite a poignant roller coaster ride of emotions considering the historical rumors behind this story line.

The actor who you thought you recognised - Don Warrington - played the Prime Minister in Doctor Who. I think it was Christopher Eccleston’s Cybermen episode.

Tennant. Simon Day (Randy Navarro) was in "The End of the World" and "Face the Raven" too.

In the early days of COVID we all had to work from home, and my boss, who was unbearable at the best of times, was a complete bitch about whether we were actually WORKING from home in order to earn our pay check - or not - and treated us all even worse. So I quit. Somehow I'd managed to work for her for 6 years, and so on my last day we had a 50-person zoom meeting so everyone could say goodbye to me. And I did it. I said the line I've wanted to say for decades. I've come to think of you all as... people I have met. :)

Not to pile on the "best is yet to come" bit but, you've still got the award winning stuff to look forward to.
