I do a review on the Red Eye Shad, and catching fish on it isn't the problem. The problem is with so many choices, and so many colors, how do I pick the right one. This can be difficult for us all, so lets dive in.

MY PROFILE:
I started fishing when I was just a young kid and instantly fell in love with Bass Fishing. Started fishing tournaments when I was in high school and have been fishing them ever since. For years I fished every tournament I could enter sometimes fishing as many as 45 tournaments a year. I qualified for the Elites when I was 30 but didn't have the sponsors or money to compete so I turned it down. Got sponsor support later and fished the FLW Tour for 2 years and having been fishing the Toyotas since 2006. I’ve won 5 Angler of the Year Titles becoming the only fishermen to have more than 3 AOYs in the Toyota series. Won numerous events along the way that has helped shape my way into working for Strike King as head of product innovation. Along the way, I picked up a camera and started filming my endeavors. I have now fallen in love with making videos about fishing and delivering it to you. Follow along the journey...it should be an honest and fun ride!

I've still got a handful of the silent Redeyes BassPro used to sell. I like them even better than the original and the tungsten version, especially with all the pressure our lakes are getting lately.

This is my year round bait. I have lots of cranking lures. In our area we have a lot of flood control lakes so no grass lots of rock and timber. So with a lipless I like it over a square bill that limits cranking depth. As far as colors I keep with traditional color patterns based on fish patterns and water conditions. When you add in live scope, let it fall and start cranking speed to match where fish are sitting in depth; and do dead pause like a dying shad. They will crush it. Honestly, I wish someone could make a what could be a rattle-jerk. Body of a trap, moves like a trap, But when paused slow sinks or suspends like a jerk and erratic like a jerk.

I made the mistake of listening to a lot of people several years ago when i went fishing on Lake Fork, where they said you have to throw a red Rat L TRap. guess what i bought about six of them for the trip and fished one for 2 days and about wore all the paint off it and never catch a fish. i cut it off and let it fall in the lake and put on a chrome with a blue back to fish the next morning and had 11 before noon when it was time to leave. one even had the hock pulled off the bait. just goes to show you need more colors.

You pretty much nailed it. I have more redeyes than any other lipless... Why in the he!! did they discontinue the silent version?? In late spring after the fish have seen every lipless around, I can go behind people with the silent version and catch them. I still have a few but my stash is getting low... I've also seen the color deal. I was throwing the DB craw pattern and wearing them out. The wife was throwing the Carp color and catching 1 to my 5. Switched baits and know she is catching 5 to my 1. Went home an ordered 5 more DB craws and never have caught a fish on that color again lol.

Back in the 80's, could always catch em with a trap on Buggs. Now I fish the Redeye on smaller local lakes always. Gizzard color is my favorite. Love the Lews signature rods also. Thanks for the redeye video Todd!

Hey Todd I always use the Red Eye and usually I have both the regular and the two- tap on at the same time but the other day I noticed that the bait was very small so I looked and I had bought a couple of those Berkley Warpig and they are very small and they actually worked pretty good I fish the Ross Barnett in Mississippi I am a big fan I’m the old Service Connected Disabled MARINE CORP Veteran you actually read one of My comments once on KZbin I Hope You and Your Family has a GREAT CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR

Great video. Love throwing the red eye and 2 tap up to about 8 to 10 feet of depth. Super shallow I will throw the Cotton Cordell. Deep jigging the LV500 is my go to. The booyah one knocker comes in to play when it's really cold on Chickamauga and they want somerhing alittle different. Don't know what it is about the 2 tap in eoyal purple on Cherokee, Douglas and norris lake but smallmouth will kill it as it flutters down the stair steps on rock and bluff walls.

I wouldn't say dialed in. I said I "loved" didn't mention anything about my execution. That is still a work in progress. But will say my personal best came in the winter on a Rayburn Red 1/2 oz red eye yo-yoing it just off the bottom in about 6 feet of water from the bank.

Without a doubt I’ve caught the most numbers of fish on the redeye. Sometimes for me you will not get bit without that long pause. I remember one time I had to get the bait almost on dry land before getting a bite. That bait by far is my favorite for pre-spawn. Thanks for video as usual! @ Chickamauga

I love traps but have not found a rod a really like since my old cara 7 foot medium, can not begin to tell how many bass I have caught originally on orange craw rat l traps then to all of the red eyes. Oh and I saw an interview with Fred Roumbanis about his career, it is one for the books . He is a good friend of Ish maybe a podcast with both. I am sure Ish is real familiar with his story.
